The goal of this survey was to explore how extracurricular activities impact the academic
performance of Senior High School students. As students get involved in activities like sports,
arts, clubs, or journalism, it’s important to understand whether these activities help or affect their
schoolwork. This survey is significant because it gives us insight into how balancing school and
extracurricular affects grades, learning, and personal growth.
The survey was conducted among Senior High School students from different strands, including
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), HUMSS (Humanities and Social
Sciences), ABM (Accountancy, Business, and Management), and Sports. This way, we could
see how students from various academic backgrounds are affected by their involvement in
activities outside of the classroom.
The main objective was to find out if extracurricular activities improve or interfere with students’
academic performance. The survey was designed to answer a few key questions: Does joining
extracurricular activities lead to better grades? Do students who participate in these activities
become better at managing their time? And, can too much involvement in extracurricular
actually affect academic performance? These are the questions we hoped to answer through
the survey.

III. Results
This study examines the effects of extracurricular activities on the academic performance of
senior high school students across various strands, including STEM, HUMSS, ABM, and Sports.
It finds that students participate in a range of activities such as academic clubs, sports, arts, and
journalism. Overall, many students believe these activities positively influence their academic
performance, as they help develop important skills like time management, motivation, and
discipline. However, some students also feel that over committing to extracurricular can
negatively affect their schoolwork, especially if they struggle to balance both.
Time management: Time management is a key factor, with many students reporting that
extracurricular help them become more organized, although some still find it challenging to
manage their time between activities and academics. Based on the survey, 50% of the
respondents confirmed this result.
Mental Health and Well-being: Students agree that extracurricular activities can reduce
academic stress, boost self-confidence, and create a sense of belonging, all of which improve
their overall well-being.
Benefits and Skills: Students feel these activities help develop valuable skills, such as
leadership, teamwork, and communication, with 55% of respondents confirming that these are
beneficial both academically and personally. Despite the positive effects, some students
mentioned that too much involvement in extracurricular could lead to lower grades if not
carefully managed.
Overall, while extracurricular activities offer many benefits, students must find a balance to
ensure their academic performance does not suffer.
