1-Challenges and commitments of teachers in the 21st century.

Among the main challenges of a teacher in the 21st century are:

• Train citizens for the 21st century: That they are creative, critical, competent, with extensive
development and capable of adapting to various professional environments in an increasingly
dynamic labor market .
• Promote creativity: the student himself is born creative and the educational system must
create the conditions so that he can continue developing that capacity, and not stifle or exclude
it, as is currently the case in some cases.
• Modify the way of teaching: teachers must be “at the same time trainers and counselors-
tutors.” It means that they not only transmit knowledge, but also accompany the student to
appropriate and transform the knowledge.
One of the primary commitments of a future teacher will be his concern to prepare or become
literate in the new knowledge, languages and technologies of today, since it is not only
necessary to acquire a series of knowledge to achieve a good professional position, but it is also
necessary the development of other skills and abilities such as creativity, emotional education
or collaboration, among others. “Educating the soul is as important as educating the mind” says
Jannet Patti.

2-Profile of the teacher according to the Curriculum Design First and Second
cycle of the Secondary Level.
Curricular design is methodology in the sense that its content explains how to develop the
curricular conception.
In the area of student development, they must take into account the diversity in the
development and learning patterns of students in different dimensions, whether cognitive,
social, physical, emotional...
Knowledge of curricular content
You must master the conceptual structures in your area: concepts, procedures, research
methods, applications and their relationships with other fields of knowledge.
Development of skills and competencies
- Designs learning situations that integrate the concepts, procedures and attitudes that make
up the competence to ensure its development in the student.

-They integrate the different perspectives of the curricular areas in the study of a situation to
avoid the interruption of knowledge and promote effective learning.
Planning
• They demonstrate creativity and innovation in their planning, always focusing on
achievement indicators.
• They design learning situations in students to generate motivation, curiosity, questions,
inquiry and search for alternative solutions to problems.
• They plan taking into account the stage of development of the adolescents, their
experiences and prior knowledge, the conditions and characteristics of the context and
the current curricular design.
• They make the most of the hours established in the school calendar; They propose
alternatives for the optimization and successful administration of this important
resource.
Resources
• They use the reality of the natural and socio-cultural environment as the first teaching
resource
• They evaluate and select the most appropriate resources to develop the teaching-
learning processes and achieve the development of certain competencies.
• They design educational materials and resources using ICT
Communication and language
- They express their ideas, opinions and feelings effectively and appropriately in their native
language orally and in writing.
- They communicate adequately in a foreign language (orally and in writing) and can access
sources of information in this language.

- They appreciate and promote the cultural, ethnic, economic, and social diversity of the
populations they work with, and are sensitive to the special needs of their students.

Professional development and ethical practices

• They value people, respect and appreciate students.
• They feel comfortable with their chosen profession and with the ethical commitment to
give their best, to contribute to the formation of full and integral human beings in all
dimensions of their being.

• They participate in continuous training experiences and activities that respond to their
personal and professional development needs and those of the educational center in which
they work.
• They demonstrate a sense of justice in their daily actions inside and outside the classroom.
Leadership and collaboration
• They actively collaborate in the construction and implementation of their center's
educational project and are committed to achieving its goals.
• They actively participate in decision-making and contribute to the consolidation of
improvements that impact their educational center.
• They exchange experiences and build knowledge by participating in learning and practice
communities with other colleagues.

3-Analysis and reflection on the international history of basketball.

The YMCA school in Massachusetts entrusted Physical Education Professor James Naismit with the
mission of devising a sport that could be played indoors since the winters in that area made it
difficult to carry out any outdoor activity and this was where basketball was born.
Basketball, as we know it today, was born in 1891 by Professor James. Naismith invented an
'indoor' sport to keep students in shape during the winter. Naismith analyzed the sports activities
that were practiced at the time, where the predominant characteristics were strength or physical
contact, and thought of something sufficiently active, that requires more skill than strength and
that did not have much physical contact.
Naismith asked the school manager for some 50 cm boxes. in length, but the only thing he got for
him were some baskets of peaches, which he ordered to hang on the railings of the upper gallery
that surrounded the gym, at a certain height, two baskets of peaches and the objective of putting a
ball through the baskets. He designed 13 basic rules for the game and divided his students into two
teams.

The International Basketball Federation was formed in 1932 by eight founding countries:
Argentina, Czechoslovakia, Greece, Italy, Lithuania, Portugal, Romania and Switzerland. At that
time, FIBA dealt with amateur players.
The first men's World Championships were held in 1950 in Argentina. Three years later, the first
women's World Championships were held in Chile.

Basketball was first included in the Olympic Games in 1936, although a demonstration tournament
was held as early as 1904. This competition has historically been dominated by the United States, a
team that has won all but four titles.
The first time a United States team was defeated in a final was in the controversial final at the 1972
Munich Olympics against the Soviet Union, which was proclaimed champion.

Women's basketball was added to the Olympic Games in 1976, with teams such as Brazil and
Australia rivaling the American team.

The FIBA eliminated the differentiation between amateur and professional players in 1989, and in
1992, professional players went to the Olympic Games for the first time. The historic dominance of
the United States was reborn with this "Dream Team." However, other countries have
demonstrated similar levels to the United States. The all-NBA American team finished sixth at the
2002 World Championships in Indianapolis, behind Serbia and Montenegro, Argentina, Germany,
New Zealand and Spain.
. In the 2004 Olympic Games, the champion was Argentina and second was Italy, with the United
States in third place. Also in the 2006 World Championships in Japan, Spain was the champion and
Greece was the runner-up, thus leaving the USA. USA in third place.

The main wheelchair basketball competitions for national teams are the Paralympic Games and the
World Championships, which are held under the auspices of the International Wheelchair
Basketball Federation (IWBF), which is also responsible for the rules of wheelchair basketball. game
and the organization of continental championships.

4-Analysis and reflection on the national history of basketball. (Highlights)

The arrival of basketball to the Dominican Republic is erroneously attributed to the US Marines
who intervened in 1916, the truth is that Dr. Salvador Cocco Pastoriza was the first national figure
who played basketball and who introduced it to the country.
Born in 1892 (shortly after Naismith invented the game) Pastoriza went to study in the USA. USA at
the University of Maryland where he belonged to the “Varsity” team in which he became the
captain.
Every time Salvador returned to the country on vacation, he came with his own basketball
equipment. Among them is a non-perforated hoop that was used to train in the country.

Since 1911 Pastoriza began teaching the game to his friends from Puerto Plata and some people
from Santiago whom he visited from time to time.

The first basketball game was held in San Pedro de Macorís in 1914 where young people who came
from American schools, Puerto Rico and other places participated in the event.

The teams to participate were named Azul and Colorado, made up of the young people of Santiago
de los Caballeros. The society followed up on the sporting event, which was the first championship
organized in the Dominican Republic.

The blue team was made up of Porfirio Perello and Juan Batlle, Homero García and Andrés Chito
Brugal and in center Teodoro Gómez.
For the Colorados, the quintet was made up of John Moore, Andrés Pastoriza, Federico Valverde,
Nicolás Vega and Miguel Vega... The game was dominated by the Blues, with a close score and very
low scoring.
In 1940, Máximo Llaverías Martí, a great enthusiast who achieved sporting immortality for his
efforts in favor of the discipline, founded the Dominican Basketball Association. First governing
institution of national basketball and embryo of what would later become the Dominican
Basketball Federation .

But it was Virgilio Travieso Soto , a disciple of Llaverías Martí, who took the concrete steps for the
creation of a solid entity that integrated all national basketball practitioners. Travieso Soto, who
later became the Father of Dominican Basketball, was the so-called man of the hoop and the ball,
who served as an athlete, coach, physical education teacher and, above all, a promoter and sports
leader who filled his resume of achievements and exemplary actions in favor of Dominican
basketball.

Travieso Soto organized the Intercollegiate League and from there promoted school sports. Being
National Basketball Commissioner, he reorganized the institution in 1960 and catapulted it to levels
never before reached.
The National Basketball League ( LNB) is the main professional basketball league in the Dominican
Republic, currently this league is made up of 8 professional teams, each team belongs to a province
of the country, it was founded in Santo Domingo on September 6, 2004 , as the Dominican
Basketball League (Lidoba). It adopted the name of the National Basketball League on May 19,
2010, after the league's recess in 2009.

5-Make a comparison of what basketball and its regulations were like with
basketball today.
Basketball began playing with soccer balls, until 1894 when a specific ball for basketball was
designed and used. Previously, 2 baskets of peaches were used to basket a basket until some time
later it was decided to change the baskets for a hoop with a net. The dimensions of the board were
also modified since in ancient times its dimension was 1.80 X 1.20 and currently it is 1.80 X 1.05,
free throws were also introduced.
In ancient times there were no 3-point baskets, previously there was no set number of players for a
game since it was played up to 50 against 50, some time later 5 players for each team were set on
the court.

There were 3 fouls for which a player would be disqualified. Currently in the FIBA that limit is 5 and
in the NBA it is 6 fouls. At that time a team was made up of 5 players and 2 substitutes, these could
only come in twice to change a player.
Players previously had 10 seconds to cross half the court, currently it is no more than 8 seconds.
The limit to finish an attack was 30 seconds and currently it is only 24 seconds.
In 1976 a rule was introduced that is not followed today: 3×2. It consisted of, if a player receives a
foul during his shooting action and fails to score, he has 3 chances to score 2 points, since, if he
misses one of the first two free throws, he is awarded a third additional free throw. This rule was
replaced in 1984 by 1+1. Team fouls were set as a limit of 8 to give free throws from that number
(currently the 5th are already free throws).
Previously, 2 halves of 20 minutes were played with 4 halves of 12. In 2000, the playing time was
adapted to 4 halves of 10 minutes (as currently, although the NBA continues with 4 halves of 12).
Also as at present, 4 team fouls are set as the limit to enter the bonus. Possession is reduced from
30” to 24” (and the time to move to the front field from 10” to 8”). As a curiosity, it was decided
that the possession clock (now shot clock) would restart when the ball touched the rim and not
when the ball left the thrower's hands. The penalty for a technical foul goes from two free throws
to one and in FIBA competitions the third referee is added.

6-Basketball concept and importance.

The importance of basketball lies in teamwork and developing good physical condition. It is a game
in which two teams compete and the one with the most points wins. The objective is to score the ball
in a hoop or basket, located more than two meters high in the opposing team's area.
The scoring system is based on Double or Triple points depending on whether they are thrown inside
an area or outside of it, and has different rules according to the federations that regulate each game,
defining the Game Times as well as the rest time, which It consists of a time that ranges between 15
and 20 minutes (depending precisely on the Championship Regulations).

7-Break down the infrastructure and props used for the game of basketball.
Ball
Completely round, it must have a circumference of 75 centimeters and a weight between 600 and
620 grams. It is composed of a rubber chamber and a leather or plastic fiber cover. Inflated, it
should bounce 1.20 to 1.40 meters on a solid wooden surface, when dropped from 1.80 meters
high.

Basket
"Container" who receives the ball, stops it for a few moments in its path and then drops it so that
the game can resume. It has an interior diameter of 45.7 centimeters. The net serves the purpose
of retaining the ball for a few seconds as it passes by, and is approximately 40 centimeters long. It
is perforated at the end, and is composed of a mesh of white cords. The basket ring is at a height of
exactly 3,048 meters.
Board
The backboard prevents the public from collaborating with the introduction or exit of the ball into
the basket. Initially, these were made of wood, and made vision difficult. Many have been replaced
by shatterproof glass, methacrylate or thick transparent plastic. The basket is fixed to the board
through the hoop, forming a right angle to it. It is placed so that it hangs 1.22 meters inside the
court, and that the lower edge remains at a distance of 2.74 meters above the ground. The
supports are brightly colored and visible, they are 40 centimeters behind the baseline of the court
so as not to hinder.
Basketball court
Rectangular surface, indoors or outdoors, measuring 14 meters wide by 26 meters long. It is
delimited by lines 5 centimeters wide, and behind these lines there must be a space of at least 1
meter. If the court is covered, the minimum ceiling height will be 7 meters, the surface is hard,
usually made of wood or cement, among others. The center line divides the field into two equal
parts. It is parallel to the baseline lines, and goes from one side line to another. The central circle is
located in the center of the court, and has a diameter of 3.6 meters. The free throw lines are
parallel to the baseline, and measure 3.6 meters. The distance between the baselines and the free
throw lines is 5.8 meters. Restricted area lines delimit the area in which the attacking player cannot
remain for more than three seconds at a time. They are two lines that go from the end of the free
throw line to the baseline, three meters from the center point, and together with the free throw
line and the baseline they form the restricted area. The spaces that the players must occupy along
the free throw corridor are marked as follows:
- The first space is located 1.80 meters from the baseline, and occupies 85 centimeters.
- The second space is adjacent to the first, and occupies 85 centimeters.
The three-point lines are those that, starting from the baselines, form a semicircle around the ring,
6.25 meters away. All baskets made beyond these lines are worth three points.
The dressing
Clothing is also a special part of basketball since different clothing is used in each sport.

The jersey is an important part of the clothing where the name of the team, the name of the player
and the number that that player has is displayed, which is related to the number on the back or
front of the jersey.

The pants are where the player's number is mostly placed and the color is usually the same as the
team's.

The shoes are the last part of the clothing and one of the most important since with good shoes
jumps and maneuvers will be much easier.

8- Talk about the modalities of basketball 5vs 5, 3x3, wheelchairs, beach.

Beach basketball
Beach basketball was born 4 decades ago on the physical education field of Gulf Shores School in
the state of Alabama and created by Philip Bryant. It is played on a circular court, and in the center
there is a basket without a backboard. Since dribbling is impossible in the sand, the player is
allowed to take two and a half steps, but the secret of the game is aerial passes and teamwork,
since you depend a lot on your teammates.
There is a maximum of three players per team, and it is played barefoot, the team consists of three
players and two additional players to make changes. The surface of the chancha is sand and its
range is 12 to 15 meters. There is no out of bounds rule. Players play without shoes. The match
lasts 10 minutes, divided into two five-minute halves. When the first 5 minutes are up, the court
changes. If the ball falls in the sand, the game continues and any player can catch it. If the game is
undecided, a “shoot out” will be made and each player has 3 shots.
3x3
3x3 basketball is an adaptation of basketball. It is promoted by FIBA and has already been
played in official international competitions, such as the Youth Olympic Games.
The match begins with a draw to determine which team will be the attacker and which will be
the defender. When a defending team recovers the ball, it switches to attacking towards the rim
it was defending. Games last 10 minutes, and the clock stops every time the ball is dead or
there was a foul.

The first team to score 21 points wins the game if it happens before 10 minutes, but on the
other hand, if after 10 minutes none of the teams exceeds 21 points, the team with the highest
score wins the game. If there is a tie at the end of the 10 min, a 1 min break will be given and
then additional time will be played, which will last until one team manages to score 2 pts.

Fouls are similar to normal basketball, but the numbers (about when a team fouls out) change.
Unlike common basketball, a team commits a foul when committing 7 fouls and after 9
committed, the rest are considered technical fouls.
5x5
It is a game in which 2 teams of 5 players each participate. The objective is to score in the
opponent's court and defend your own, as well as try to take possession of the ball at all times.
Players may pass, throw or dribble the ball in any direction, as long as it does not leave the
boundaries of the playing field. The winner is the team that has the highest score at the end of
the game.
Paralympic basketball
This type of basketball emerged after World War II as the result of a game strategy designed to
stimulate the minds of those crippled in the war. With the passage of time it has spread as a
great sport throughout the world, where its rules are identical to those of traditional sport,
since it takes into account the same dimensions of the court, the same scoring system, the same
duration and the same height where he has pushed himself a maximum of two times in the
wheelchair.
Slamball
Quite famous at the moment, this variant is characterized by having elastic beds, so its game
philosophy is seen more as a spectacle, as these beds are used to perform acrobatics and movie
jumps before managing to get the ball to the game basket.
9-Do an analysis of the categories that can be embedded in the school
environment minibasketball, U13, U14, U15, U16, 17, 18, with regard to the
Curricular Design first cycle and second cycle of the secondary level.

Lower basketball categories

• School: 1st and 2nd of Primary (under-7 and under-8).
• Benjamín: 3rd and 4th grade of Primary (sub-9 and sub-10).
• Alevín: 5th and 6th grade of Primary (under-11 and under-12).
• Children: 1st and 2nd ESO (under-13 and under-14).
• Cadet: 3rd and 4th ESO (under-15 and under-16).
• Junior: 1st and 2nd year of Baccalaureate (under-17 and under-18).

10-Do an analysis and reflection of the learning acquired in this first
assignment.
Basketball is a sport with a lot of movement, activity and physical contact in which two teams
face each other on a court and the one with the highest score at the end of the predetermined
time (match) wins.

Depending on the modality, a number of players will face each other that involves the same
amount, e.g.: 3x3 (On the court, 3 players vs 3 players), 5v5, beach basketball (there is a
maximum of 3 players per team...)

This sport has fundamentals, which are:

• The pass
• The basket shot
• dribbling
• The defense
Basketball is a highly evolved sporting activity, which has been constantly renewed. The practice
of basketball requires a high technical level, which must be executed at maximum speed and
directed with an intelligent capacity for both personal and collective decision-making.
