Directions : Write your answers and solutions(If there are) and indicate your final answer/s.

A. Identify what kind of variable according to continuity of values the following :

1. Heaviest package received by a courier company in a week. Continuous.
2. Maximum temperature of Cebu City in a year. Continuous.
3. Cars sold for two years. Discrete.
4. Reported destructive typhoons in a year. Discrete.
5. Life span of a Filipino. Continuous
6. Weights of can goods in a super market. Continuous
7. Number of board examination passers in Engineering. Discrete
8. Income of a company every year. Continuous
9. Total number of Php 50 notes circulating in the Philippines. Discrete
10. Total shares of certain individual in the stock market. Discrete

B. Identify what kind of variable according to level or scale of measurement the following :
1. Socio-economic status. Ordinal
2. Location of companies. Nominal
3. House temperature. Interval
4. Book numbers in the library. Ordinal
5. Employees ID numbers. Nominal
6. Authority in decision making of family setting in Filipino tradition. Ordinal
7. Office budget. Ratio
8. Average age of students entering college. Interval
9. Engine number of automobile. Nominal
10. Percentile scores in National test. Ordinal

C. Enumerate the methods of collecting data and briefly discuss it.

1. Direct/Interview - Has direct contact with the interviewee. The researchers gather information by
asking questions.
2. Indirect/Questionnaires- Method of data collection by sourcing and accessing existing data that
were originally collected by the research for a certain purpose of the study.
3. Registration- the method of continuous, permanent and compulsory recording of vital events due
to the Legal importance.
4. Observation- The term "observation method" refers to a strategy for observing and describing a
subject's activity, and it entails the fundamental technique of merely observing the phenomena
until some intuition or understanding is acquired.
5. Experimentation- An experiment is a data collection method where you as a researcher change
some variables and observe their effect on other variables. The variables that you manipulate are
referred to as independent while the variables that change as a result of manipulation are
dependent variables.
D. Enumerate the types of non-probability sampling procedures and briefly discuss it.
1. Accidental/Convenience. Convenience sampling (also known as grab sampling, accidental
sampling, or opportunity sampling) is a type of non-probability sampling that involves the sample
being drawn from that part of the population that is close to hand. This type of sampling is most
useful for pilot testing.
2. Stratified. Based on shared traits (such ethnicity, gender, and level of education), researchers
divide participants into groupings called strata. Each subgroup is then randomly picked using a
different probability sampling technique after being partitioned.
3. Purposive. Purposive sampling is a research technique in which the researcher uses their own
judgment to select the subjects who will take part in the study.

E. What are the sources of data and give at least one example ?
1. Documentary - is the research conducted through the use of official documents or personal
documents as the source of information.
Example: May include such things as newspapers, diaries, stamps, directories, handbills, maps,
government statistical publications, photographs, paintings, gramophone records, tapes, and
computer files.
2. Field- Field data is collected directly from the source by researchers or data collectors. It involves
firsthand data collection, often through surveys, observations, experiments, or interviews. Field
data is original and specific to the research at hand.
Example: A researcher conducting surveys to collect information about consumer preferences for
a new product, where they directly interview consumers and gather their responses.

F. A stratified sample of size “ n ” is to be taken from a population of size N=2,000, which consist of Four
strata of size N1= 500, N2= 1,200, N3= 200 and N4= 100. If the allocation is to be proportional, how large a
sample must be taken from each of the Four strata using slovin’s at 0.05 margin of error.
Answer:
N1= 83, N2= 200 N3= 33 N4= 17

Solutions:
G. Construct a FREQUENCY DISTRIBUTION TABLE of the following data using a class interval of 6 and
start with the lowest value as the lowest lower limits.(Scores of Students).

Solutions:
H. Based on the constructed FDT above answer the following :
a. How many student whose scores are between 21 to 26? 15 students.
b. How many student whose scores are greater than 15? 41 students.
c. What is the percentage of the students whose scores are less than 32? 98.33%
d. What is the class mark of the 5th class interval ? 11.5

Note : If answers on a, b, c and d are wrong, it follows that your FDT is wrong.
