Acknowledgement

I would like to express my special thanks of gratitude to my

Physics teacher Miss Priyal Kukreja for their able guidance
and support in completing my project.
I would also like to extend my gratitude to the Principal mam
Ms. Preeti Saxena for providing me with all the facility that
was required.
Then I would like to thank my parents and my friends who
have helped me with their valuable suggestions and their
guidance has been helpful in various phases of the
completion of the projects.
Lastly, I would like to thank my classmates who have helped
me a lot.
Introduction

A fingerprint is an impression left by the friction ridges of a

human finger. The recovery of partial fingerprints from a
crime scene is an important method of forensic science.
Nowadays, fingerprints are also used as a means of
improving security in various sections of society from phones
to fingerprint door locks. Fingerprint locks are some of the
best available security as no two individuals have the same
fingerprint.
Fingerprint locks are made possible by fingerprint sensors
which can scan fingerprints and store some specific ones so
that only authorized personnel can access private
information and places.
Fingerprint Scanners are used for recognizing and
authenticating the fingerprint of an individual. Fingerprint
readers and the scanners are safe and reliable devices for any
security authentication.
Principle Involved

Fingerprint scanners are digital input devices that read a

(human) fingerprint and output a 2D/3D image dataset that a
fingerprint matching software can exploit.
Capacitive fingerprint scanners

They work according to the principle that if the distance is

short enough, it’s possible to transfer electricity from a
capacitor and the skin. At the scale of such capacitors,
fingerprint ridges are like hills and valleys. Ridges will seem
closer to the capacitor, and more electricity will flow away.

Ultrasonic Fingerprint sensors

Using ultrasound, the sensor can map the 3D ridges and

valley that form the fingerprint.

Optical Fingerprint sensors

A light shines the fingerprint from the side to reveal the

ridges and valleys of the fingerprint for an optical sensor to
read. This is reliable simple and affordable to build on large
surfaces (to print several fingers or a whole palm).
Theory

Circuit Diagram
Working of the Model
The fingerprint sensor circuit consists of a fingerprint sensor
connected to a microcontroller which processes the image
received from the fingerprint sensor and acts accordingly.
The fingerprint sensor module is capable of remembering
multiple fingerprints and can hence provide access to
multiple people.
The microcontroller is responsible for recognizing the
fingerprints and either denying or granting access.

Analysis
Applications
Fingerprint sensors provide one of the best available means
of security in the modern world.
They can be used in a variety of devices such as mobiles,
computers, security systems, attendance systems and door
locks.
Fingerprint sensors are also used in identification purposes.
Large corporations and the Government maintain large
databases of fingerprints which can be used to identify and
provide access to authorized personnel.
Fingerprints are very important nowadays and hence
fingerprint sensors are also widely used in places like airports
for border control identification, hotels for replacing
magnetic key cards, banks for securing financial records and
use as a mode of payment, etc.

Conclusion
Fingerprint sensors are very useful in today’s modern world
with wide ranging applications from security to identification.
They are widely accessible and easy to use and provide the
best security there is right now.
In this project we have made a rudimentary fingerprint
sensor circuit which can be improved in efficiency and
accuracy by better imaging equipment.
