OPCEnum for Windows XP, 7, 10, Server 2003 and 2008R2


To ensure a successful DCOM configuration you need to locate the OPCEnum in the list of COM components.

Open DCOM Config folder located under Computers > My Computer

Locate OPCEnum, and then open its properties by simply right clicking on it, and choosing “Properties” from
the menu.

OPCEnum is a program that scans your registry for a list of OPC Servers on your computer.

General Tab – Authentication Level select “None”.

Location Tab – Check “Run application on this computer”

Security Tab – There are three options in the security tab that need to be set.

Launch Permissions – “Use Default”


Access Permissions – “Use Default”
Configuration Permissions – “Customize”
Then click Edit and a window will open allowing to specify the accounts that do/do not have
configurations permissions, simply add the same groups as we did previously, and make sure they
have “Full Control” rights.
If you plan to use a web-based OPC Client using a Web-server such as IIS, then you will need to also
add the user-context(s) in which IIS uses. The following accounts are the default user-context
accounts that you may need to add, if you have others that you use instead, then you will need to add
those:
IWAM_<computer_name>
IUSR_<computer_name>

Endpoints Tab – Leave the default protocols.

Identity Tab - Unless you have a specific need to specify a user account which OPCEnum will use, then
you can simply choose either "Interactive user" or "System Account". The options available here may
restrict the options available.

Click OK to save and close the OPCENUM options window.
