Environment Monitoring Parameters

The purpose of the environment monitoring is to monitor the running of the cabient at all times. This
helps to detect any fault as soon as possible, thereby meeting the requirement for a stable
telecommunication network.
The environment monitoring parameters are reported to the control system through the monitoring
serial port.Monitoring the environment of a device involves two aspects:
Environment parameters: refer to factors that may cause failure or even damage to the Device. The
parameters include: Analog Parameter like temperature, humidity and Digital Parameter like
Door-status switch, smoke, water, main distribution frame MDF and door status sensor
Power supply monitoring status: covers the status of the mains input, the DC distribution (DC PDU),
and the rectifier module, and the battery.
Principle
The environment monitoring is implemented in upper device/lower device mode. That is, an upper
device manages multiple lower devices, as shown in Figure. The upper device communicates with the
lower devices based on the master/slave protocol.
Master/slave communication in the environment monitoring Figure

The upper device herein refers to the control board of the MA5600T, and the lower device here in
Refers to the devices that are used for monitoring namely, the environment Monitoring units (EMUs)
The upper device interacts with the lower devices as follows:
-The upper device manages and maintains the status of the lower devices.
-A lower device detects through its own hardware interface the external data, processes the data, and
reports it to the upper device.
-The upper device translates the user commands, and then forwards the translated commands to the
lower devices. Then, the lower devices take the corresponding actions
Slave Node
Environment monitoring is implemented in master/slave communication mode. In this mode, alower
device (slave node device) must have a unique ID. Otherwise, in point-to-multipoint or multipoint-to-
multipoint communication mode, the communication is confused. The unique ID of a lower device is
called a slave node number (or a slave node address), which is determined by the hardware (similar to
the MAC address of the network interface card). In general, a lower device provides the DIP switches
that are used for adjusting the slave node number.Make sure that the slave node numbers of all the
lower devices corresponding to an upper device are different. Otherwise, the upper device fails to
communicate with the lower devices.
Analog Parameter
An analog parameter is a consecutive parameter; such as the temperature, voltage, and current. The
analog monitoring port is usually connected to an analog sensor to monitor analog parameters in real
time. The analog sensor has the following attributes:
1-Upper and lower alarm thresholds: used to determine whether an alarm for an analog parameter is
generated. The analog parameter is in the normal state only when it meets the following criteria:
Lower alarm threshold±Δ ≤ Current value ≤ Upper alarm threshold±Δ Here, Δ indicates the hardware
tolerance.
2-Upper and lower measurement thresholds: indicate that each sensor has its measurement range. The
measurement ranges of certain sensors are adjustable. The measurement results vary with the
measurement range. The upper and lower alarm thresholds must be within the measurement range.
3-Sensor type: Generally, sensors are categorized as current sensors and voltage sensors. This parameter
is mandatory when you configure the analog parameters.

1
4-Unit: It is defined based on the object detected by the sensor and the actual precision of the sensor.
5-Current value and current status: The analog sensors can report the monitored values of various
analog parameters in real time, and display the analog parameter status (overhigh, overlow, or normal).
For the EMU, the analog parameter includes the built-in analog parameter and the extended analog
parameter.
1-Generally, the built-in analog parameter is fixed. Except the upper and lower alarm thresholds, users
cannot modify other built-in analog parameters and take different identification from extended analog
parameters . For example FAN SPEED and TEMPERATURE inside TCU
2-The extended analog parameters can be modified, and users can configure the analog sensors as
required and take different identification from built-in analog parameter analog parameters. For
example TEMPERATURE , HUMIDITY and BATTERY TEMPERATURE
Digital Parameter
Compared with an analog parameter, a digital parameter is a discrete value to indicate the status. A
digital sensor has only two values: normal or faulty.A digital sensor detects the status by comparing the
high level with the low level. The digital sensor has the following attributes: alarm level, significant
level, sensor type, and current status.
-Alarm level: When the level of a digital parameter equals the alarm level, the digital sensor generates
an alarm. If the alarm level of the digital sensor is set to the high level, when the monitored digital
parameter becomes the high level, the sensor generates an alarm. When the digital parameter becomes
the lower level, no alarm is generated.
-Significant level: It is on the contrary to the alarm level. That is, when the level of a digital parameter
equals the significant level, the digital sensor does not generate an alarm.
-Sensor type: Generally, sensors consist of current sensors and digital sensors. This parameter is
mandatory when you configure the digital parameters.
Current status: It is the state value detected by the digital sensor.
For the EMU, the digital parameter includes the built-in digital parameter and the extended digital
parameter.
1-Generally, the built-in digital parameter or defult sensors is fixed except we can stop montoring and
alarm serverity, users cannot modify other built-in digital parameters and take different identification
(ID) from extended digital parameters. For example SMOKE,DOOR ,MDF, WATER LEVEL
2-The extended digital parameters can be modified, and users can configure digital sensors as
required and take different identification (ID) from built-in digital parameters. For example :
ARRESTER ,MDF-DOOR
Monitoring methods
1-Electric supervisory channel (ESC):
The ESC processes the environment information from relevant sensors to monitor the environment
parameters including indoor temperature and humidity, door status, water, and smoke. The ESC
communicates with the control board through the serial port, and reports the data to the control board.
Environment monitoring is implemented as follows:
The EMU and the control system are connected through a serial port cable and they communicate with
each other through the node to subnode protocol (point-to-multi point (P2MP), RS485) or point-to-point
(P2P, RS232) communication protocol. In this way, users can monitor the environment status of the
EMU directly on the EMS center.
ESC functions as the EMU figure

2
The ESC collects the monitoring analog and digital parameters and external dry contact signals from
External sensors. The ESC processes the collected monitoring parameters and then reports the
parameters to the control System. The Element Management Center (EMS center) can monitor alarms
remotely
Note:Dry contact signals refer to passive digital signals like relay.
2-Power System+Sensor Transfer Box:
The sensor transfer box collects the environment information from relevant sensors and forwards the
information to the monitoring module of the power system. The monitoring module of the power
system then processes the environment information and reports the information to the control system.
With the sensor transfer box, the monitoring function is extended.Environment monitoring is
implemented as follows:
The monitoring unit and the control system are connected using a serial port cable and they
communicate with each other through the P2P (RS232) communication protocol or P2M (RS485)
communication protocol. In this way, users can monitor the environment status of the device on the
EMS center.

The sensor transfer box collects the monitored analog and digital parameters and external dry contact
Signals from external sensors. The monitoring unit reports the monitored parameters collected by the
sensor transfer box to the control system. The network management center (EMS center) can monitor
alarms remotely.Dry contact signals refer to passive digital signals.
3.(Device Self-Monitoring)
In the device self-monitoring solution, the control board of the device processes the environment
information collected by the sensors so that the environment parameters such as the door status
sensor, surge protector, and MDF can be monitored.Environment monitoring is implemented by the
built-in virtual EMU (VESC) of the control board. The control board provides an RJ45 port on its front
panel to directly connect to external sensors to monitor the environment status. In this way, users can
monitor the environment status of the device on the EMS center.

TCU EMU Commands
Temperature control unit (TCU) is a kind of heat exchanger (environment monitoring unit). A heat
exchanger is mainly used in the outdoor cabinet to exchange the heat inside and outside the outdoor
cabinet. The heat exchanger includes two air ducts that are completely isolated by the heat conducting
performance of the heat exchanger core. That is, the internal cycle air duct and the external cycle air
duct. The external ambient air (cold air) flows in the external cycle air duct while the hot air inside the
cabinet flows in the internal cycle air duct. Then, the heat between the internal and external cycles is
exchanged through the heat conducting performance of the heat exchanger core. Besides the heat
exchanger function, the temperature control system monitoring board also supports the digital
parameter alarm function and the analog parameter alarm function.
