MN-01 Poll Results Memo - Ettinger Campaign
Expedition Strategies conducted 400 total interviews in Minnesota’s 1st Congressional District with a
sample of likely Democratic primary voters. The interviews were conducted June 6-9, 2022. The margin of
error for overall results is ±4.90% and higher among subgroups.
• 20% are liberal, 30% are moderate, and 43% are conservative.
• 31% identify as Democrats, 38% as Republicans, 31% as Independents.
• 40% live in the Rochester DMA, 60% live in La Cross, Mankato, Minneapolis, or Sioux Falls
DMAs.
• It’s slightly more female (53%) than male (47%).
• 42% are under the age of 60, 58% over.
The Race is Close Initially and Jeff Ettinger Leads After Positive and Negative Messaging
Initially, the ballot is a statistical tie with Ettinger receiving 47% of the vote, Finstad getting 48% of the
vote and 5% undecided.
• After giving voters positive information about both candidates, Ettinger leads Finstad 50% to 47%
with 3% undecided.
• After giving voters potential criticisms of both candidates, Ettinger leads Finstad 49% to 47% with
5% undecided.

Top Voter Concern is Inflation and Cost of Living
The dominant issue voters want to see their next Congressman address is the cost of living and inflation
(27%) followed by gun violence (12%) and election integrity (10%).

By a 53% to 40% margin, more voters say they prefer a candidate who has significant experience running
a major business in Minnesota than say they prefer someone who has significant experience in
government and rural policy making.

When it comes to tackling inflation, more voters say they want someone who will look at ways to focus
spending to help those who need it the most (51%) over a candidate who will look at ways to cut
spending in every government program (44%).
