LESSON 2

ART MANAGERS, CURATORS,ART DEALERS,ART BUYERS.

PRE-DISCUSSION

Today, commercial art galleries are part of every city’s cultural life and play a
central role in the development of the art market. Given their importance – and their
position, located on the intersection of culture and commerce – surprisingly little is
known on the economics of art galleries, with art and business remaining reluctant
bedfellows and the mere talk of the back room. It seems, however, that art galleries can
no longer hide from market reality.

What to expect:

1.Identify persons involve in art galleries.

2. Differentiate the works of each persons in art gallery.

Galleries have multiple roles, both visible and invisible: to incubate and support

their artists, often by going above and beyond the normal work of putting on shows,
promoting their artists, and selling the works; and to providing services such as financial
management or book publishing, in order to help their artists.

motion picture companies, graphic design firms, publishing organizations .Some are
self-employed.

should be able to lead a team, work well under pressure and think outside the box.

An art manager oversees art projects that appear in books, cartoons, classifieds, blogs,
brochures, books advertisements the design development that usually appear in motion
pictures, magazines or newspapers, websites and professional journals, among others.

supervise artists, animators or cartoonists, illustrators, photographers, graphic
designers or other employees within the department. They also show proper work
etiquette and professional approach on all challenges to encourage the artists, illustrator
and designers in new and upcoming projects that would seem to intimidate them.
ART curators

In the art world, the title of "curator" identifies a person who selects and often
interprets different works of art, whether they be paintings, statues, tapestries, or
video art. In addition to selecting works, the curator is often responsible for writing
labels, catalog essays, and other content supporting art exhibitions.

Art curators have an eye for a variety of art forms and a passion for staging artwork
in a way that creates interest in the exhibition space—whether it is small or large,
contained within four walls, or staged outdoors.

As part of their regular duties and tasks, an art curator may perform some or all of
the following:

acts as the intermediary between the buyers and sellers of art.

and builds relationships with collectors and museums whose interests are likely
to match the work of the represented artists. Some dealers are able to anticipate
market trends, while some prominent dealers may be able to influence the taste
of the market. Many dealers specialize in a particular style, period, or region.
They often travel internationally, frequenting exhibitions, auctions, and artists'
studios looking for good buys, little-known treasures, and exciting new works.
When dealers buy works of art, they resell them either in their galleries or directly
to collectors. Those who deal in contemporary art in particular usually exhibit
artists' works in their own galleries. They will often take part in preparing the
works of art to be revealed or processed.
