2017 Merging Unit and Method of Operating A Merging Unit

The patent application is for a merging unit for substation automation. The merging unit has an input interface to receive voltage and current data from power system components. It also has a timing synchronization mechanism interfaced to an external synchronization network according to IRIG-B, 1PPS, or IEEE 1588 standards. The merging unit implements logical nodes according to IEC 61850-7 and maps information to and from the logical nodes using the IEC 61850-9-2 sampled measured values communication protocol.

The patent application is for a merging unit for substation automation. The merging unit has an input interface to receive voltage and current data from power system components. It also has a timing synchronization mechanism interfaced to an external synchronization network according to IRIG-B, 1PPS, or IEEE 1588 standards.
