1. What is mathematics for you?

Mathematics for me is the basic science of logical reasoning that we use in our
everyday life. Patterns are the core topics in mathematics. There are two types of patterns
which are numerical and geometric. It serves as a tool that is used analyze, organize, and
apply the patterns. Mathematics is strong too in understanding and communicating the
world. We give them meaning when we understand math even further. I can say that it is
part of science, for physics and engineering. We can understand the events around the
world through statistics and probability. In geometry, we use it as a tool to develop, teach,
explore, and understand symmetry and transformations. This gives us experience so that
we can apply this in the future and help other people.

2. What new ideas about mathematics did you learn?

We use mathematics every day without even knowing it. We can see mathematics
everywhere in nature as patterns. The idea of using the golden ratio in fine arts, nature,
architecture, photography, and websites. It is very helpful in keeping everything in
balanced around us. At first, I thought it is just only about computing or calculating
numbers. This gave me more ideas or knowledge or point of view about the mathematics
in the modern world. We can see it in a very specific angle of everything.

3. Where do you apply the principles of mathematics?

We can apply the principles of mathematics everywhere. Example of these are


forensics, medical field, fluid dynamics, information technology, cryptography,
archeology, social sciences, economics, political sciences, aviation, music and arts.
These principles can be applied also in conducting a research. Even in time itself, we can
easily tell the second, minute, hour, day, weeks, months, and years we spend or doing in
the moment.

4. Do you need mathematics every day? Why?


I always need mathematics because it is very useful to me. It helps me in solving
the simplest problem. It is sort of an exercise that is always good for our brain, tells time,
helps with finances, helps in our career as in our chosen course, can help us in shops for
a good sale, and it is universal. Some say that math is hard so they don’t like it and turn
their backs on it but I think of it as a challenge for my mind to solve a problem. Even if
someone hate math, we can apply this knowledge where ever we go.

5. Do you appreciate mathematics? Why or why not?

I always appreciate mathematics every day, in fact, it is one of my favorite subjects


because this helps me in computing any basic calculation problem and understand the
world by its patterns, structure, order and relation. Mathematics has helped me
throughout the years in solving any mathematical problem, chemistry, physics, financial,
and other things I encounter every day. Even if it gives me a hard time to understand its
contents, I will always appreciate math.
