Reflection: How do you see Philippines’ reflection using the lens of a Social Scientist? Write your
observation inside the mirror.
Analysis:
What were Rizal views on economics? In his two novels, he dramatized the
injustices of Spanish colonial rule through the characters of Sisa, the unfortunate
mother of two children brutalized by a Church deacon, was the very snapshot of
poverty. In the ‘’Fili’’ he made know his thinking on economic development through
the protagonist, Simoun, a well travelled and wealthy Filipino businessman. Does
poverty still exist today? Well as Philippines is still poor, poverty is taking a toll on
Filipinos, parents often can’t make enough money to support their families; children
then have to be taken out of school in harsh conditions. They are having a hard time
surviving in such difficult conditions and more and more are falling into extreme
poverty.
Problem 1:
POVERTY
Analysis:
Corruption in the government had its origins during the time of the ancient
Filipinos. These were worsen by the abuses of Spanish friars and officials with the
onset of the colonial rule. Jose Rizal, condemned and expose these abuses and
cruelties in his two novels the Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. Today,
political intervention and nepotism in the government are very rampant. Many
incompetent officials land a career in government service — turning the
government system into an inefficient organization prone to corruption and
manipulation of politicians. Jose Rizal had known
this, and for him, the people are to be involved
in the task of good government. Problem 2:
CORRUPTION
Analysis:
Undoubtedly, the Filipino youth - the new Rizals - are the hope of the nation. It is their
hands that would inscribe the next chapters of the country’s history. The new Rizals
should surface among the Filipino youth of today. But according to figures from
Department of Education and the National Statistical Coordination Board in the
Philippines. 1 in 6 Filipino kids will not attend school. Further, only 7 out of 10 kids will
complete elementary school. Of those 7 kids, only 4 will complete high school, and of
those 4, 1 will proceed onto university. The main reason for this? Poverty.
Problem 3:
LACK OF EDUCATION
CRITICAL THINKING
Assessment Task 1: EL FILIBUSTERISMO AND THE CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY
Rizal did not approved the idea of revolution because for him it is still untimely. According
to him, the mind of the people was not fully educated of the concept of freedom - that proper
education should be first - education of truths, not school lessons - that should such militant
physical revolution take place ahead of mental evolution - the physical enemy or physical carriers
of the real enemy would merely gone, but people would still be slaves of untruths and corruption.
The Filipino youth has always been tagged as the ‘’hope of the nation’’. This is not new everyone.
Rizal emphasized that every Filipino, regardless of their status in life can be a living Rizal only if
they would integrate the blazing fire of leadership and love in their respective noble promise.
The youth will only be the fair hope of the motherland if we will give them the proper
education that they deserve, and the education that they need. According to our national hero,
education will be the solution to the problems of our country. Our youth will never be the fair
hope of our motherland if we will not teach them, if we will not mold them. Let’s treat our youth,
the way Jose Rizal is treated, he had his first lesson in their home and it is given by her mother. We
should keep in mind, that without us it is not possible for the youth to be the fair hope of the
motherland, and without education we will all be nothing.Let’s see to it that the first lesson that the
youth is going to learn will be learned at home. Let’s teach the youth, before the world and our
society teach them.
