Rationale
Introductory Message
This learning resource hopes to engage the learners into guided and
independent learning activities at their own pace and time. Furthermore, this
also aims to help learners acquire the needed 21st century skills while taking
into consideration their needs and circumstances.
As a teacher, you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this
exemplar in the most fit modality. You also need to keep track of the learners'
progress while allowing them to manage their own learning through portfolio
assessments.
2
You teacher will provide you with a template and you will be given a
privilege to organize the portfolio in your own creative way.
3
What I Need to Know
In this exemplar, you will be acquainted with setting-up network
configuration. The scope of this exemplar enables you to use it in many
different learning situations. The activities are arranged to follow the standard
sequence of the course.
Sub-Competency
4.1 Process entered data using appropriate software commands.
4.2 Print out data as required using computer hardware/ peripheral
devices in accordance with standard operating procedures.
4.3 Transfer files and data between compatible systems using computer
software, hardware, peripheral devices in accordance with standard
operating procedures.

5. Database program
A database management
package or database
management system (DBMS) is a
software package used to set up
or structure a database. It is also
used to retrieve information from a
database. Example of this are;
Oracle, MS Access.
Types of Printer
3. Dot matrix printer-The term dot matrix refers to the use of dots to form
an image. In a dot matrix image, the quality is determined by the
number of Dots per inch.
4. Inkjet printer – The most popular for home computer users that prints
by spraying streams of quick-drying ink on paper. The ink is stored in
disposable ink cartridges, and often separate cartridge is used for
each of the major colors. These colors are usually (CMYK) (Cyan,
Magenta, Yellow, Black).
6. LED printer – Similar to a laser printer, LED printers are non-impact but
used a light-emitting diode instead of a laser in the print head. LED
printers were initially developed by CASIO and function by Focusing
light across entire length of the drum, thus creating areas that are less
charged, which attracts toner.
The printer then transfers the toner from the drum to the paper
and applies intense heat to fuse the toner to the paper.

design, these devices have more or less been phased out by wide-
format printers. Plotters produce a hardcopy of schematics and other
similar applications.
1. Install the cartridge in the printer and add paper to the tray.
2. Insert installation CD and run the printer set up application (usually
“setup.exe”), which will install the printer drivers.
3. Connect your printer to the PC using USB Cable and turn it on.
4. Look in your printer folder on your computer.
5. Print a test page. In windows, right-click on the printer and go to
“Properties” then click the “Print Test Page: button, then the “utility” tab
and click “Print Test Page”
If all goes well, your test page will print and your printer will now be set
up.
