Summary, Findings, Conclusions and Recommendations

The chapter summarizes the objectives, methodology, findings, conclusions, and recommendations of the study. Key findings include that most respondent households were nuclear families with 4-6 members located in urban areas and earning less than ₱9,520 per month. While households disagreed with being voluntarily or involuntarily excluded from banks, those with 10 or more members agreed with involuntary exclusion. The study concluded financial exclusion was low and proposed information dissemination through flyers to promote bank access and services. Recommendations included encouraging bank access, continued banking services, further research, and deeper analysis of financial exclusion levels.

Chapter V

SUMMARY, FINDINGS, CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

This chapter presents the summary of objectives and methodology, the

salient findings, the conclusions drawn from the findings, and the

recommendations.

Summary

The general purpose of the study is to assess the financial exclusion to

bank services of households in Bauan, Batangas. The researchers determined

the profile of the respondents according to their geographical location, family

structure, household size and family monthly income. They determined the

reasons in terms of voluntary and involuntary exclusion. These variables were

used to determine the reasons why there is financial exclusion to bank services

of households in Bauan, Batangas.

For the achievement of the objectives of the study, descriptive method

was used as the studies research design. The researchers used a data gathering

tool survey questionnaire which were checked and validated by the adviser,

panelist and experts. The study covers the households in Bauan, Batangas.

There are 19,306 households in Bauan (source: Municipality of Bauan) and there

were 283 respondents selected through convenience sampling method. All data

gathered from it were tallied, tabulated and interpreted using statistical treatment

such as percentage, related frequency and weighted mean. They determined the

comparison of responses when grouped according to profile. Finally, they

determined what information dissemination may develop from the results.

Findings

From the information obtained and analyzed, the findings of the study are:

1. Profile of the Respondents

The results revealed that majority of the households were from urban areas

with a frequency of 149 or 47.3 percent followed by a frequency of 134 or 52.7

percent in rural areas.

Additionally, most of the structure of the family were nuclear with a frequency

of 174 or 61.5% whereas, extended families have the least number with a

frequency 109 or 38.5%.

Moreover, families with 4-6 members with the frequency of 164 or 58% got

the highest while ranges 10 and more members got the lowest percentage of .2%

with only 2 respondents each.

In terms of the family monthly income, majority of the respondents have an

income of Php 9,520 and below with a percentage of 51.9 percent from the

frequency of 147. However, Php 38,081 to Php 66,640 family monthly income got

the least percentage of 0.4% with only 1 respondent.

2. Assessment of the financial exclusion to bank services of

households in terms of voluntary exclusion and involuntary

exclusion.

In terms of voluntary exclusion, the study reveals that an overall composite

mean is 2.26 with the verbal interpretation of “Disagree”. “Cash on hand can be

spent more easily rather than cash savings from the bank.” got highest weighted

mean of 2.83 interpreted as “Agree”. However, “Their religion doesn’t encourage

them to have access on banks” got the lowest weighted mean of 1.44 interpreted

a “Strongly Disagree”.

In terms of involuntary exclusion, the composite mean was 2.16 which was

described as “disagree”. “Having insufficient fund to invest and to save on banks”

got the highest weighted mean of 3.11 with the verbal interpretation of “agree”.

On the other hand, “One or some of their members are already blacklisted on

banks” got the lowest mean of 1.43 with the verbal interpretation of “strongly

disagree”.

3. Comparison of responses on financial exclusion to bank services of

households when grouped according to profile variables.

Involuntary exclusion from rural areas gather a weighted mean of 2.17 while

the voluntary exclusion gathers the weighted mean of 2.24. On the other hand,

the weighted average of involuntary exclusion from the urban areas gathers 2.14

while its voluntary exclusion gathers 2.26. Both rural and urban areas have the

verbal interpretation of Disagree to both Voluntary and Involuntary Exclusion.

The weighted mean of the Nuclear family as to voluntary and involuntary

exclusion is 2.26 and 2.19 respectively. Both having the verbal interpreation of

Disagree. Also, the weighted mean of Extended family to voluntary and

involuntary exclusion gathers 2.25 and 2.11 respectively which have a verbal

interpretation of Disagree.

The comparison between the profile variable names stated both Disagree

with the total mean of 2.26 and 2.16. Based on the size of household, 10 and

above members of the family agreed that they are involuntary excluded with the
mean of 2.5 and 2.6. Those whose member are 9 or less stated that though they

both disagree in both voluntary and involuntary, they are voluntary excluded

because they have the highest mean of 2.28 compared to involuntary exclusion

with a mean of 2.12

The comparison between the profile variable names stated both Disagree

with the total mean of 2.26 and 2.16. Based on the family monthly income, all

income brackets from the voluntary exclusion are higher than involuntary

exclusion.

4. Information dissemination to promote financial inclusion to bank

services of households.

The researchers came up with the strategy of information dissemination

through flyers. This strategy aims to inform households the importance and

benefits of accessing bank services. The researchers expect that the households

will have a better knowledge and access to the different bank services which will

promote financial inclusion in Bauan.

Conclusions

From the findings, the following conclusions were drawn:

1. The study revealed that majority of the household respondents were of

nuclear structure with 4-6 members, located at urban areas, and having

an income of Php 9520 and below.

2. The result of the statistical treatment showed that households in Bauan

Batangas scored composite mean disagree in financial exclusion. It

means they are not considered as voluntary and involuntary excluded.

3. There is a comparison of responses when grouped according to the

household size in terms of profile variable. There is no comparison of

responses in terms of geographical location, family structure and family

monthly income.

4. Based on findings, the proposed action plan is information dissemination

through flyers to inform households the importance of having access in

bank services. It also includes the benefits and the services offered by

banks.

Recommendations

The researchers give their necessary and intellectual recommendations

based on the above conclusions and from the statistical test they performed in

the proceeding chapter. The recommendations are directed to immediate parties

concerned which are the government and future researchers of similar studies.

1. The researchers of the study, first and foremost, recommend that the

households must give enough attention in accessing bank services to their

own benefit.

2. For the banking institutions, they should continue the services they offer to

their clients or households that will help the community to improve their

standards of living. This will further increase the accessibility of

households towards the financial services.

3. Upon the research of the study, the researchers may be more

knowledgeable about the banking services. They may be getting more

ideas of why household cannot access on the bank services. Also, the
researchers may develop professionalism upon conducting this study and

may provide better recommendation for the success of the study.

4. For those who wish to conduct further studies about this topic, they may

conduct deeper study to justify and to identify the level of financial

Exclusion in Bauan, Batangas. They may consider the other aspects in

determining the level of Financial Exclusion.
