Performance Task Hypothesis Testing

The document outlines a performance task involving random variables. Students are asked to: 1) Solve two probability problems involving insurance policies and grades. 2) Conduct a survey of 10 classmates to collect data on a discrete random variable like number of sports played. 3) Construct a probability distribution, and calculate and interpret the mean, variance, and standard deviation of the random variable.

Performance Task #1: Random Variables November 21-22, 2019

Long Bond paper (with borders; 0.5” each side) 11 HUMSS D

I. Solve the following problems. (Copy, then answer)

1. Suppose Linda is working in an insurance company and she sells P100,000 one-year term insurance policy at an annual
premium of P29,000. Actuarial tables show that the probability of death during the next year of Linda’s customer whose age,
sex, health, etc. is 0.001. What is the expected gain (amount of money made by the company) foe a policy of this type?

2. Your father said, if in one grading period your grade is Math is 90 and above, he will add 50 pesos to your daily allowance, 20
pesos if your grade is 80-89, but decrease it by 10 pesos if your grade is 79 and below. If the probability of getting 90 and above
is 15%, while you have 45% chance to get 80-89. What is the standard deviation of your possible allowance per quarter?
II. Conduct a survey about a certain discrete random variable among 10 of your classmates.

 Think of a good discrete random variable that involves yourself or your classmates. (Eg. Number of books received by the
students of Grade 11 HUMSS D; Note: You are not allowed to have the same random variable with other pair/group)
 Conduct a survey among 10 of your classmates. (Let it be recorded on a separate paper; let each respondent sign for reliability
of the data)
 Construct a Probability Distribution of the Random Variable
 On a separate table from above, compute for the mean, variance and standard deviation of the random variable. Show complete
solution.
 Interpret the computed mean, variance and standard deviation.
