What is Application?

An application is any program, or group of programs,


that is designed for the end user. Applications software (also
called end-user programs) include such things as database
programs, word processors, Web browsers and spreadsheets.
The term Application refers to Software which is a set of
instructions or code written in a program for executing a task
or an operation in a Computer. Applications play a vital role
in a Computer as it is an end-user program that enables the
users to do many things in a system. The application
programs are designed and developed to run in a System
Software which is an Operating system. An Operating System
is system software that enables al the applications programs to
run and execute various tasks in a Computer system. The GUI
based applications carries out various tasks in a Computer like
creating documents, playing games, browsing and many
more.
Without applications, digital computers serve no purpose.
Applications are programs, a sequence of machine
instructions, software, without which a digital computer has
no way of knowing what it is supposed to compute. Digital
computers must be told what to do, right down to the minutest
detail.
Schools and colleges around the world are using computer
and internet technologies to teach students digitally and
creatively with data visualization. Uses of the computer in a
classroom will explore creativity and imagination in students
mind. Drawing tools, spreadsheet, Audio, Video lectures, and
powerpoint presentations, etc. are very beneficial for students
to learn more deeply and accurately.

Types Of Application
It is not easy to divide computer applications into any
exact categories. At present there is no clear definition
available to categorize computer applications. Even
though here is a small list of different types of computer
applications.

Embedded Systems
Windows Application (also called 'Desktop
applications')
Web Applications
Web Services
Console applications
Embedded System:-
When we save a name, address and
other information in to our Mobile
Phone or Digital Diary, You know How it gets saved in it?
Nothing but which is a small computer program 'Embedded'
into a chip in the device inside the mobile phone or digital
diary known as Embedded Systems.

Windows Applications:-
Windows Applications is a form
based standard Windows, Microsoft word; Paint is
example to the Windows application, and also called 'Desktop
applications'.

Web Applications:-
A web site is also called 'web
Applications'. A web applications is a collection of web pages
hosted on a special computer called 'web server'.It will work
through Browsers (EG. Internet Explorer, Mozilla,Netscape).

Web Services:-
Web services are web applications that give
services to other applications through the internet, example
Google search engine, Yahoo Search engine etc. which allows
other applications to delegate the task of searching over the
internet.

Console Applications:-
Console applications runs inside the
command prompt i.e. DOS window, It is a light weight
program and which is used commonly for test applications.

Advantages of Computer
Applications
Computers allow students learning to read to break it
down into the different components like pre-reading
skills, word recognition, vocabulary, and comprehension.
When using computers, the children benefit from getting
extra practice time with extra drills and exercises.

It also benefits teachers to be more efficient by


maintaining records, running reports, assessing progress
and allows them the tools for diagnosing problems earlier
than just manual testing and observation.
connecting a computer to the Internet is what unlocks the
full potential of a computer. Once connected, your
choices and available options are almost limitless. Many
of the benefits listed on this page are with a computer
connected to the Internet.

Computers are capable of storing and accessing vast


amounts of information. For example, a computer and
devices like eBook readers can store hundreds or
thousands of books, given enough storage capacity

Using a site like Amazon, you can find many of the same
products you would find at a store for the same price or
cheaper. You can also have those items shipped to your
door without having to leave your home.

You could use an online banking site to view your bank


balance and pay bills.

If your favorite restaurant has a website, you can order


take out without having to wait in line.
You can view online traffic cameras and maps with
traffic information to find the quickest route.
Computers are also great tools for the blind, with special
software that can be installed to read what is on the
screen.
for those who have a hard time leaving the house,
shopping, or socializing, a computer can help with all of
these tasks.
A computer can automate most imaginable tasks and can
also be programmed to wait for something to occur. For
example, computers connected to a camera can be
programmed to watch for movement and, when detected,
send an alert and begin recording.
