Jesus died because of mankind's greatest need - that all have sinned. God solved this problem through the self-substitution of Jesus on the cross. The cross achieved justification, redemption, atonement, and reconciliation by paying the penalty of sin, breaking its power, removing its pollution, and destroying its partition between God and man. Jesus' death provides righteousness from God for all those who believe.
