We are pleased to have supported this report, commissioned by Universities UK International and delivered by Counterculture Partnership LLP and Public First. It improves the evidence base on the non-financial contribution of international postgraduate students, demonstrating their significant contributions to the UK’s research strength across the globe.
🆕 Did you know international postgraduate students make crucial non-financial contributions to the UK? Our latest commissioned report released today, authored by Counterculture Partnership LLP and Public First with support from UK Research and Innovation, highlights the significant non-financial contribution of international postgraduate research (PGR) students to the UK’s research and development sector. This includes their role in tackling public policy challenges and supporting the UK's ambition to become a global science superpower. The report calls for a more systematic approach to capturing the data behind these contributions – both during students’ studies and beyond. We'll be spotlighting more of our key findings and recommendations over the coming weeks. 💡 In the meantime, read the full report and join the conversation on how we can better support and grow the contributions of international PGR students: https://loom.ly/t_YdF_E #pgr #postgraduateresearch #innovation #researchanddevelopment

In partnership with the Government of India, we’re investing a combined £8.9m in seven projects addressing farmed animal diseases and health. This commitment forms part of a wider £19.4m match-funded package from UK Research and Innovation , tackling global challenges, and further builds on our bilateral relationship with India. The collaboration will see the UK and India join forces in an exchange of knowledge, skills sharing and research strengths. With our growing global population and the pressing need for a secure food chain, expanding our applied understanding of resistance to disease within livestock is key. Sitting under the International Science and Partnership Fund (ISPF), which was launched in 2023, projects are covering drug resistance, AMR infections, vaccine development, disease control and immune response, with a focus on: - Understanding host factors - Farming practices for a more sustainable global food chain. UKRI and the Government of India are collaborating to tackle global challenges. Together, they have committed £19.4 million towards research on farmed animal diseases, understanding geohazard processes, and innovations in sustainable materials, manufacturing, and power electronics. We are thrilled to be part of this initiative, partnering with the Ministry of Earth Sciences to invest £8.5 million in five projects focused on advancing our understanding of earthquakes, landslides, and tsunamis. Christopher Smith, UKRI International Champion and lead for the Building a Secure and Resilient World strategic theme, said: “Geohazards are a critical area of research that demands international collaboration among researchers, policymakers, governments, the private sector, and civil society. This programme will enhance our understanding of the fundamental physics of earthquakes and landslides, helping to build resilience and mitigate the impact of natural disasters in India, delivering tangible benefits to communities and critical infrastructure. Our partnership with the Ministry of Earth Sciences in India is essential to the programme’s success and its real-world impact.” To learn more about the full investment, please visit our webpage.
