The Postcard Killings (2020)
Good thriller but a bit lacking
I enjoyed this film but it was a bit confusing in places and the thrill kind a runs out of steam about 3/4s through the film.
A Call to Spy (2019)
Good performance, well-told story
I was a bit skeptical about Stana Katic being cast in a war film, but I have to say she does a great job in this movie. This is a strong female movie with good casting and very good acting. I personally enjoy historic films and I liked this one.
Resistance (2020)
Well told story
I wasn't sure what to expect with Eisenberg, but I have to say I enjoyed his performance as Marcel Marceau. This is not a Hollywood blockbuster with all the stupid special effects, it is a story of French and Jewish resistance in a horrible time in history.
Deadpool 2 (2018)
Witty nonsense! But worth watching.
Ryan Reynolds is perfect as Deadpool. The wit and cheekiness in this movie is a perfect escape to everyday life. This is a pure, park your brain at the door and enjoy movie. If you are easily offended, this isn't the movie for you. If you are sick of living in a PC world, then this is a perfect movie for you. Deadpool is rude, sarcastic and completely bonkers!
Mortal Engines (2018)
Vivid imagination for the big screen
The creative geniuses behind this movie have created a entirely futuristic world that is recognisable as London and as the Far East. I personally enjoyed this David v Goliath story. There are elements of many other stories rolled into this one, which doesn't detract from the story - unless you want it to. Enjoy this movie for what it is - a fictional tale of good v evil.
Robin Hood (2018)
Entertaining fiction
I don't know what people expect from movies these days....movies are meant to be entertainment, FICTION and a way of telling a story in a different way. I personally found this movie entertaining. I didn't expect it to be a blockbuster or worthy of an Oscar, because it certainly isn't that. This movie takes a different interpretation of the old Robin Hood story. You have Robin, Marian, Sherriff of Nottingham, Tuck and John. If you went into this movie expecting an ACCURATE telling of a fictional tale, then you are going to be disappointed. If you went into this movie expecting to be entertained then you should enjoy it. Park your brain at the door and just enjoy it.
A Star Is Born (2018)
Good performances but didn't grab me
I took a while to see this film and whilst I enjoyed it, mostly I found it a bit flat in places. Bradley Cooper has modernised the story and he must continue in his directing because he has great talent. This movie is essentially a love story though and you have to believe that these characters are madly in love, but I didn't feel it. Bradley Cooper did well to bring to life a broken man fighting powerful demons and ugly jealously. He can't be faulted there. I also think Lady Gaga has a stunning voice and did very well in her acting debut. But for me tne chemistry wasn't evident between the characters.
Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)
Queen is about the fans!
This film felt part-docu, part-drama. As a Queen fan I really enjoyed it. The actors do such a great job that you can sometimes forget that it's not the real band. I know the focus has been on Rami Malek, but I think Gwilym Lee should be highly commended for his Brian May as he nailed it! I must admit that the movie did get a bit lost in the middle and probably could have been a bit shorter, but overall a very good film.
The Greatest Showman (2017)
Good but not compelling
It took me a while to actually see this film and given all the hype I was expected to be thoroughly entertained. Don't get me wrong, the production is amazing and the era is bought to life in a spectacular fashion, but I found the movie to be a bit flat in places.
The Pacific (2010)
Not quite "Band of Brothers"
I personally enjoyed aspects of this series, but it didn't hold me like "Band of Brothers" did. But then again, the Pacific War was an entirely different experience to the Battle for Europe wasn't it? Having had relatives fight for Australia in New Guinea I was particularly interested to see how it would be portrayed in this series. The focus is very American, but you would expect that from an American production.
Finding Your Feet (2017)
Heartwarming story about human relationships
This is a delightful movie. Typically English, with the divide between the "haves" and the "have-nots". But, the "haves" don't always have "it" do they? This story explores the importance of relationships in a person's life. Family and friends can sometimes lift us, and sometimes bring us down. Don't settle for something that isn't making your heart sing. But then sometimes you have to break a heart to find what is actually right for you.
Deadly Impact (2010)
Dull and predictable
The script in this movie is very flat. The plot is very predictable and not particularly thrilling. The female lead is eye candy for the lads, but she didn't really sell the part - and her dialogue was pretty weak.
Bulletproof (2018)
British drama at its best
This is a modern take on a British cop show. Personally I really enjoyed it. The script is good, the characters are likeable and the chemistry between them is great. Great filming, good car chases and gritty subjects.
NCIS: Los Angeles (2009)
Good chemistry, humour, action and romance
The NCIS: Los Angeles is a great show, with plenty of action, humour and heartfelt moments to keep people engaged. The chemistry between the team is evident, Sam and G, Kensi and Deeks, Nell and Eric and Henrietta Lange. Some storylines do run a little long but there a good moments to break up before tedium sets in. There are comic moments, particulalry Eric and Deeks characters.
Collateral Beauty (2016)
A subtle message....probably missed by most
Time, love and death are part of each human story. Time can be a sentence or it can help heal wounds. Love is best given freely and with meaning. Death is an old white woman. Will Smith gives a mature and moving performance in this movie. I liked the messages in this movie.
