The House (2022)
Arthouse, yet important for the whole lot of us
It's the absolute seperateness, yet continuity of this movie that made it one of the best Netflix movies I have watched. It's pure art. The second story and a few minor overall issues cost it 2 stars for me. I would like to end this review with my overview perspective and interpretation, of course only in key words, with mild spoilers whatsoever.
This movie contains 3 parts:
1: overwhelmed; no solution; loss
2: unhappy; challenged; alternative way
3: inner conflict; finds way out: freedom/relieve
Closure is there for the three of them, but not all closures happen as planned out. Thank you for reading, enjoy the movie!
Dexter: New Blood: Sins of the Father (2022)
What closure? Poor Debra
I had a great time with "Dexter: New Blood", as it felt nostalgic and brought back so much for me. But what type of closure are all these people talking about? From the start of the series to its end, Debra was there for Dexter. Especially after Rita's death! All she wanted was to do good, even better and get into a happy relationship with a man. All she got in season 8 was pure disrespect as she opened up about having feelings for Dexter. Yes I know, that some people found it weird, but under the given circumstances of how messed up both their lifes are and them not actually being related, I really wanted them to find happiness within each other and let things come to an end peacefully and together. But all she got was mental trauma after having to kill LaGuerta to safe "Dex...." as she cried out, broken inside. She was so mistreated in this whole racket and in the end, even ended up dying. Through the hands of a killer, Dexter tried to chase down, if I remember it correctly. He even brought her to his other victims, so there's no doubt in him knowing that it was his fault, in a way. Where is her closure, her place of peace? In being Harry 2.0?? Miami Bay??? I can't believe they let Debra down twice...
Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts (2022)
10 points for Gryffindor
I am an absolute Potterhead. So watching this special, I really had to fight back the tears. Not only does it show how much the cast has changed, but also how much time has passed and how much I myself have changed, alongside with my family and friends. When I started watching the movies I was a little boy and now I am sitting here, writing this review while playing with my beard. It was quite a journey. Goodbye Hogwarts, thanks for having me again, after all these beautiful years have passed!
Batman & Robin (1997)
Great cast, terrible script
The catchphrases, the wordplays where should I start? That's probably the worst script I ever had to endure. "Hot nights/winter sleep/putting things on ice..." I hated every second.
Don't Look Up (2021)
Satire, special but never bold
It was exaggerated at times, sometimes had tones of cheapness, but all in all it was a satire at a very good performance. The curiosity of the movie mirrors our very own ignorance. Hit by a metheor, hit by the truth.
Aftermath (2021)
A waste of potential
What bugs me the most is the fact, that this movie started out shakey, but good. It was fun to watch, entertaining and kept me going. Usually, these are good things. But in this case, they tried out having two plot twists which then started to lose themselves in each other, leading to a whole collapse of lame writing, rather than a decent finale. So how exactly was the predictable husband of the murder victims sister connected to a man, living in the basement of the house? And how exactly is it, that no one spent a single moments thought of taking a look inside of that creepy, uninviting assumebly haunted basement? It's a real bummer how bad you can kill off a movie that started out so much better than it ended.
Knives Out (2019)
This movie is pulling your leg
Well watching this beauty made me feel smart, yet dumb at the same time. For once you first hand feel smart, but given a view on the actual twist, you feel as dumb as possible. The wildest twist of this whole movie to me was, that the whole "murder case" was indeed suicide. Of course it could have been avoided and was surely prepared, yet it was suicide all along! HA! I had a great deal of fun watching this!
Philadelphia (1993)
Why it's a ten? Let me wipe away the tears and I'll tell you!
I just finished watching this movie and the credits are rolling as I am writing this. It is unbelievable. The sheer love portrayed in this, a love that would never let anyone bring you down, a love that lasts until you draw your terminal breath and above all, a love, that connects us all, whatever mindset or attitude we seek or own! It was a journey filled with tears of all kinds and was worth every single minute, as I will think about it precisely in the future!
Whiplash (2014)
Not what I expected at all, I loved it!
This movie had me at the edge of my seat. And whenever you think you know where that movie is going: You're proven wrong! 'Unpredictable' is a brutal understatement for what I just witnessed! Brilliant work by Mr. Chazelle.
Mortal Kombat (2021)
Boy what a mixture
It was ok to watch, because the CGI was on point. But when it comes to storylines the game took the wheel, which to me is a real shame. You mean to tell me, that there's going to be another part? No thank you.
Bicentennial Man (1999)
Made me cry
It's about the beauty of life, love and mortality. A masterpiece!
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008)
"Special" would be an understatement
So I watched this movie for the 6th time, maybe more, much more often...Watched it for the first time, when I was 8 years old and it made me understand things that no other movie did...Stuck with me til today and I can't find the words to describe what I felt every single time! Travelling through the lives of Benjamin, Daisy and so on as a passenger, listening to probably the best monologues in movie history will never not fascinate me...I also love how well structured it is, yet manages to make me cry! That's just more than "special"! I am 20 today and I can't wait to watch this movie again and again, as long as I can, cause you all know: "Nothing lasts forever!"
Joker (2019)
What a journey it was
Watching a man, eaten up by mental disorder and other, mostly brutal daily problems, becoming the Joker really was uncomparabely well acted by everyone and especially by Mr. Joaquin Phoenix. When he dances, almost levetating down the stairs you really see that he is free as a bird. That almost had me in tears. To me, it was a wonderful and beautiful story. When it was only two days out in Germany, I already watched it two times. My new favourite film, period.
And never forget: "That's life".
Triple 9 (2016)
Ok what did I just watch?
They had so many great names, but didn't use the potential, coming out of that...I don't even know where to start. We had two plotlines, one working as a cop-thriller the other one as a bank-job-movie but nothing seemed to make sense, the plot lines crashed, the ending was pure horse ...Almost unwatchable...
Papillon (2017)
Good or bad, I was surprised
Well it was a remake, so it simply couldn't reach the same level as the original. Being honest, it seemed pretty good to me. The only thing that annoyed me, was that they let out the emotional reunion at the end....I can't believe, that they did that....So for that and a bit for the stretchiness in some scenes, I gave it a seven. Go watch it, it wasn't bad.
Skyscraper (2018)
Let's just take the shortcut, right?
So they decided to make another movie with Dwayne Johnson. Why does it have to be that bad? It's as if people forgot about physics amd crafted a weird, unlogical thriller with a bit of suspense and zero sense and/or intelligence. That's how "Skyscraper" works.
So if leaning back and switching of your brain is your cup of tea, then you'll have one hell of a time.
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
Cinema at its best
I can't say more than that I have enjoyed every single second! People and even some critics can't stop complaining about the length of this movie, which doesn't line up to the fact that this is the end (together with far from home) of an era containing 22 movies! What else is there to say? Well, I didn't have such a great time in cinema for a year, the last one was Infinity War;)
To come to an end: Every emotion was affected by this movie, literally EVERY emotion! From joy to anger, over to fear, ending in sadness...This is one of the best movies in the past 7 years! So if you haven't seen it yet: Go ahead!!!
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)
Goosebumps
If that, the cameo's of Stan Lee, the animation and the ending didn't give you the goosebumps, then I really don't know what could possibly do it...That's all I can say, I am absolutely stunned...
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018)
Disappointed (no spoilers)
Watching that movie was a disgrace to everything I have watched and loved from the Steven Spielberg franchises... I am not gonna spoil the movie, but it had moments in which I asked myself: "Did they really just go that way?!" The CGI was horrific, just brilliant!!! But the plot completely went down the drain...I don't know what to say...Even some of the special effects had trouble to portray the physics of our planet.....That's why to me it's a 4/10
