Joker: Folie à Deux (2024)
Needs more madness
Maybe it's my bad luck that I saw this movie's rating before going to the cinema with my sister. I love the experience of watching a creation like this on a Dolby big screen but I was so confused the whole time as when will stuff start blowing up and the action begin?
This movie does not really satisfy the expectations that was built from the first one. It is not crazy, it's not madness, it's just odd drama. Half the scenes are a creation of Arthur Fleck's (The Joker) imagination and my sister actually argues that the whole things was a dream!
One thing I like about this movie is Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn, and the singing really added a new exciting element to the movie (Sinatra fan here). It's a pity the story just wasn't there to support it. It's worth a watch anyway just don't expect a lot.
My Wifes X (2024)
Not worth the hype!
I was really excited to watch this movie because it's currently leading the Saudi box office but after 2 hours of bearing the mediocre comedy, I'm not really sure why.
Don't get me wrong, I love Egyptian cinema and Hesham Maged but I find the plot of this movie least enjoyable and contain unnecessary suspense. The whole movie you're just waiting for "Youssef" to tell "Taha" who is Sahar's ex and former convict that he is married to her!
The other half is scattered - and surprisingly many - violence scenes of him just hitting everyone. While this movie could have been supported by more drama, I don't think the crowd who attended really enjoyed it and it only caught a few laughs. Not really worth the time to be honest.
The Union (2024)
Decent Movie, It's Mark and Halle!
My review is not going to be about the quality of this movie, because you can tell from other reviews it's pretty debatable. Yes, it doesn't seem very creative but I will say that I enjoyed watching it.
It's about this secret organization called "The Union" which Mike "Mark Wahlberg" finds himself in abruptly after his ex Roxanne "Halle Berry" recommends him for the job (in the most absurd way).
Mike is in a bit of a pickle to adopt to this new secret agent life, while feelings from his past with Roxanne come into play. They are both challenged as they attempt to save the world, and maybe rekindle an old spark! If you just want a decent action film for the night, you should watch it.
The Family Man (2000)
A movie with a message, bittersweet.
Nowadays, it's hard to see a movie like this that has a meaningful message. The story is kinda sad but you leave with a valuable lesson: Family before business. The plot starts when Jack is faced with the reality of choosing between family and work. His choice then shapes the following 10 years of his life until he is offered to see a "glimpse" of what life could have been if he had chosen differently!
The movie kept me engaged until the very end, but I really couldn't have guessed the ending. Nicolas Cage and Téa Leoni were amazing. It does leave you with a sting and it's bittersweet but it's enjoyable! It is similar to "Click" but I think it's a bit more powerful, watch it at your own risk!
The Outfit (2022)
It keeps you on your toes the whole time!
I have never seen that much suspense one movie. From the beginning to the very end it leaves you guessing one what happens next. The whole story happens in this tailor shop where gangsters get involved.
At first, you think this is a typical story where the mafia is messing with a local shop and trying to take advantage of the owner but the story unfolds in a very different way!
I like how this not only about Chicago gangsters and an English tailor. It's about the story of a craftsman and his pride, how he is responsible of keeping his shop safe and he has a very cleaver way of how he gets on about it!
Deadpool & Wolverine (2024)
Hugh and Ryan are an incredible duo
Before watching the movie, I wasn't sure what to expect of a Deadpool & Wolverine movie. I have watched Deadpool 1 and 2 and really liked it (the first one more than the sequel) but this one is really massive! A lot of action and a lot of good jokes, there was many moments where the audience were just bursting out laughing. I mean, don't look at me I was next to my younger brother and I was honestly a little embarrassed of how some of the jokes were a bit too spicy but legendary in laughter! I think I really want to watch another movie with these two, they make an incredible team. I like how Deadpool is the funny always talking kinda guy and Wolverine is just there dropping f bombs and acting like he is sick of everything. Would recommend everyone watches this movie on a big screen it really makes a difference! I watched it on iMax and it was lit!
Gawaza Toxic (2024)
So many good jokes!
This movies will have you burst out laughing right from the start. Despite being number one in the Saudi box office, it's quality of humor just speaks for it. The story is about a man who falls for a girl whom he meets working abroad. When his parents meet her for the first time in Egypt, they are skeptical of her intentions and so they presumably try to "protect their son".
Where does the fun begin you may ask? When the two families meet to celebrate their engagement, the girl's family is very liberal and wild while the guy's family is more leaned to the conservative side so a lot of comedy takes place as they get to know each other. This is a fun watch!
Notting Hill (1999)
Love story beyond dreams
This is not intended to be a review of this film, I'd know better. Because I just feel lucky just to have been able to watch this classic! Sadly, I only stumbled upon it because it was one of the movies labeled "leaving soon" on Netflix. I initially was motivated to watch it because it's a Julia Roberts movie and I really don't remember watching enough movies for her (must've been missing out!). She was absolutely charming! I think she also has a very unique and mesmerizing smile. Nevertheless, I was captivated by Hugh Grant's brilliant performance playing the sensitive and kind man who can't believe he has found love again. This is a masterpiece.
Crashing Eid (2023)
Engaging and clever
While it's never easy to discuss the social issues that were the theme for this show, I believe the team that worked on this movie did an amazing job! The characters, plot and lines were to the point.
Saudi cinema is young and not anyone could pull off a great show like this.
I really enjoyed watching "Razan" the protagonists who represents a thriving self-motivated woman that wants to build a new life abroad with her daughter "Razan".
I was really impressed to hear Hamza Haq's Arabic who plays "Sameer" and blown away by how cleverly Yasir Alsaggaf played the role of the troubled husband who is deprived from his son.
Big applause for the creators of this show.
Lohusa (2024)
I don't understand what all the fuss is about, it was a good movie!
I don't really agree with the negative reviews written below. I thought it was really fun and had a relatable story!
A couple who had just delivered their first child and are experiencing what's it like to be a parent for the first time.
"Burcu" who is the mother encounters many mood swings and crazy moments that are really entertaining to watch, I got a couple of good laughs too. She embodies the role of the confused mother brilliantly "hats off to her".
Her husband "Onur" is not less fun either, through out the movie he innocently tries to help her but things often get out of hand.
I watched this movie alone but I guess it would be much more fun for a couple to watch, I would recommend this movie to any people who are used to this type of Turkish Comedy. Good job!
Despicable Me 4 (2024)
Accents, Minionese and a new hero!
Count me as the fan who is not really sure what exactly happened in the last three movies but took his whole family to the cinema when he knew the minions are coming to town!
I can never get enough of hearing the minions speak Minionese but my brother had this funny comment about how many accents were in this film: Southern, British, French and Russian. They were all in and it was fun!
The plot is what you'd expect, Gru and his family are giving it a go at being a wholesome and normal family while a disruptive new adventure looms, an ambitious girl hero villain emerges in this movie and together they work to save the day.
Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F (2024)
A good fourth movie
Although I don't remember the time when I watched the Beverly Hills trilogy, I find it fascinating to see another one added to the list! This is not like The Matrix where the fourth one is really offbeat. It's got a crazy helicopter scene, grim but fancy looking gangsters and Axel Foley really going crazy with the city property damage! Between every scene and the next, I was hoping to hear more of The Crazy Frog track but it seems like it was used moderately. The movie was really enjoyable to watch but I think the plot could have had more depth. I also enjoyed watching the dynamics between Eddie Murphy and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (I think this is their first movie together), Taylour Paige killed it too! I wonder if we'd see another Beverly Hills Cop sometime in the future!
Jersey Girl (2004)
Raquel Castro is adorable in this movie!
Raquel Castro who plays as Ollie's child "portrayed by Ben Affleck", a music publicists adds a really sweet flavor to this one! Her performance and cute kid girlie lines are really adorable to watch. After his wife's passing "her mother", she embodies her presence in a big way, always supporting him and saying clever and funny stuff. Also her resemblance of her mother "played by J Lo" is quite amusing. The plot is captivating to watch but somehow predictable. When the movie first began I thought this was going to be a love story "as I haven't exactly seen the cover" but as the story developed it seemed more about a father's commitment to his daughter and finding love again in life. Overall, really enjoyed it!
Bad Boys: Ride or Die (2024)
You will laugh a lot!
Out of all the Bad Boys movies, I really like the comedy on this one. There are always moments that are hilarious with Martin and Will, but the jokes on this one went a little extra! I also love the mention of spirituality in this film (of course, in a very comedic fashion). It shows that the writing was done in accordance with current pop culture, it doesn't feel outdated or anything like that. It was action-packed, of course! But it appears that there was the use of new technologies as well in some scenes which made it all the more engaging. This movie wins, I really enjoyed it from all aspects.
Poor Things (2023)
Lisbon and Mark Ruffalo!
I will tell you three things that fascinated me about this movie:
the message, Mark Ruffalo and Lisbon!
The story portrayed in this movie is shocking but profound. I think the message behind it is to say that sometimes a strong desire to change one's situation can lead to a very absurd place (and possibly looming) but somehow things unravel in the most unexpected way.
Mark Ruffalo is not the actor I expected to see at this kind of film, but I was blown away by his intelligent portray of the character "Duncan". His dramatic reactions made it all the more exciting!
During the movie, the director sets the stage in multiple "virtual" locations representing various cities, but I was most captured by Lisbon, somewhere in the past century, it was really beautiful and even made me excited to visit Portugal!
This movie could be the answer for anyone looking for an engaging two hours and a half experience, with a strong message and incredible scenes. It has it all.
Flight 404 (2024)
Blown Away!
I am really blown away by Mona Zaki's performance.
The story is breathtaking! Ghada, the protagonist who is haunted by a sinful past is trying to take the pilgrimage to Mecca and wipe the slate clean, while constantly being challenged by the temptations to return to it.
Just before her trip, she encounters a real pickle in which she is pressured to reach out to the same people who she is trying to run away from. It's a real dilemma that drives enjoyable suspense in the film.
Following Ghada "who is Mona" throughout this journey, with the fear of what could happen and cheering for her has really made this film an engaging experience. Hats off to the director and Mona for her absolutely amazing performance!
Inside Out 2 (2024)
It's always the last scene.
It gets me every time, that last scene! With inside out 1, the story was amazing as we all know. But the way the story ends on both is always a moment I believe where there is a culmination of all the feelings accumulated during the story build up.
I love how there is an introduction of new characters on this one and how it takes us through different phases of Riley's life and how it compares to the one before.
The journey the director takes us inside Riley's mind is also full of wonder, it's like there are two worlds and the one inside is just as fascinating as the one outside.
Unlike lots of sequels, this one is really good!
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (2024)
Impeccable cinematography
Once again, George Miller takes us on a breath taking cinematic experience in the deserts of wasteland filled with fury, action-packed shots and one brave warrior determined to take what's hers.
Aside from the story which begins with Furiosa losing the company of her loved ones and everything else she could call dear, embarking on an audacious journey to get back at those who have deprived her of everything, the cinematic experience of watching this master piece on a big screen is truly phenomenal. One shot I can't get over is when Anya Taylor-Joy is walking on the asphalt after an eventful scene. The cement on the road was just so real!
I finished the movie while already hoping to see another Furiosa story. I am eager to see Anya play the role again, Chris Hemsworth's performance was indisputably perfect as well. Overall a massive success and worth a watch with full Cinema experience.
