Trigger Point (2022)
Binged on this.
Last year I viewed Season 1 and thoroughly enjoyed it. I was very happy to see that another series had been made. I did intend to view one a week, but I'm afraid I resorted to binging the whole of Season 2. I blame the makers of the series for ending on a cliff hanger. The ending, when it came, was a surprise. I agree with a previous reviewer that you have to suspend belief, The cast were believable and the tension was high. I certainly hope we can look forward to a further series. Although I enjoyed Season 1 - Season 2 was definitely much better. All in all if you want to view something with a bit of a bite - set aside time to binge.
Dune: Part One (2021)
Disappointing
I was looking forward to seeing this remake of the 1984 edition of Dune. I have read all the books and seen all the various follow ons as well. I must admit I was most disappointed. To someone watching the film with no knowledge of the books I think it would have been most confusing. My main complaint was the actors' diction. They all seemed to mumble and unfortunately the edition I watched had no subtitles. Parts of the book were left out and the whole film did not run smoothly. It is a huge book and I understand the need to split it into two parts, but surely if they are doing this they could at least keep in some of the more important parts. The special effects were good as were the costumes. The acting was OK but to be honest I preferred David Lynch's version from 1984,
Grey's Anatomy: Everything Has Changed (2022)
Disappointing
I have watched Grey's Anatomy (every episode) since it first started. Maybe it is just me, but I rather think the show has run out of steam. There used to be good storylines which kept viewers entertained but now it does seem rather flat. Now we seem to be back at the beginning again with a new batch of interns. I will give it a couple of episodes to see if it picks up, but I do have my doubts. Perhaps some exciting new characters need to be introduced. The how just seems to rehash relationships.. I rather think it is time to put it to bed as the heart of the show seems to be in terminal decline.
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993)
Not for me
I am an avid fan of all Star Trek series and I have to admit that I watched Deep Space Nine (whole series) once but never again. I have watched all the others including films, several times, but I just thought this one was awful. It had a lot of good actors in it (not the one who played Sisko) but for me it was dire. I know there are people who reckon this one was the best, but I could never take to the characters at all. I am enjoying watching Star Trek: Discovery for the 4th time and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds very much. I love even dipping into the original Star Trek and subsequent movies. However, I recently tuned in to find Deep Space Nine was on a channel I liked and years later I still cannot take to it. I guess we are all different and I will leave it to those that love this one best.
The Undeclared War (2022)
Surprised
I am really surprised at the negativity shown to this programme. I thoroughly enjoyed it and binge watched it all in one go. I couldn't fault the acting as it was good. The lighting could have been better, but then I suppose as this was "brooding" it fitted the script. I am a bit technologically backward, but managed to follow the plot. I hope they make a second series.
Scottish Mussel (2015)
Charming and funny
I recorded this a while ago and finally got round to viewing it. What a lovely film. Beautiful scenery, comedy, a gorgeous otter. Simply superb. I just love Scottish humour and it was one of those films that leave you feeling good after watching it.
The Lost Symbol (2021)
Dire
I watched episode 1 and.thought well it is going to get better. Watched episode 2 and then gave up half way through episode 3. Bored out of my mind. It really is awful. At least with the Brown books you can skip the boring pages. Not for me I'm afraid.
Vigil (2021)
Edge of your seat
I recorded the first two episodes and watched them together. I have to say I really enjoyed it and found it gripping. Quite claustrophobic in the submarine. If the rest of the episodes are up to the standard of the first two I will be well happy. A good decent thriller which keeps up the tension.
Annika (2021)
Dire!
Thought I would give this a go as it is set in Scotland and had a good cast. Why or why do a lot of police dramas feature a police office with a stroppy teenager in tow. Totally spoiled it for me. As for speaking aside to the camera I am afraid it just didn't do it for me. I also did not think the plot was that riveting either.
The Crossing (2018)
Excellent
I found this series on Amazon Prime and watched all ten episodes back to back. I was upset to see it had been cancelled. It was excellent. The acting, the plot all good. I don't understand why decent series get cancelled and rubbish like the Kardashians go on and on.
The Blacklist: The Russian Knot (2021)
Spader v Boone
James Spader is a first rate actor. Boone needs to go to acting school. Spader is brilliant and watching him is a treat. Boone is stupid and watching her is mind-numbing. Spader can relate a host of emotions in one look. Boone makes me want to vomit. The episodes this season when she was "missing" were brilliant and then they brought her back and the ratings slumped. One thing for sure I would not go out of my way to watch anything with her in it. She cannot act. Put us out of our misery, writers, and put her down.
The Blacklist: Misère (2021)
Misery indeed
I have never given such a low rating for a Blacklist episode. Season 8 up to this episode has been brilliant. Good acting. Lots of Red and Dembe. Why did the writers have to bring her up. For a kick off she's a useless mother. She drags Agnes all over the world - what about schooling and stability. Children like their own room and things around them that are familiar. Liz seems quite happy to see others injured and killed as long as she is not the one doing it. Then she greets and girns (Scots words for crying and moaning) and acts all surprised that it has happened. Writers please take note - no-one likes her. She is a dreadful actress. How the rest of the cast put up with her I don't know. Ugh.
The Blacklist: The Wellstone Agency (No. 127) (2021)
Humbling but beautiful
What an absolutely beautiful episode. Reddington's tribute to Jellybean at the end was humbling and sincere. I liked the touch that he died of West Nile Fever as that was the cause of his death in real life. I loved that Aram got a more prominent role and that Park is now in debt to Reddington. This was a top notch episode and made all the better by NO Liz.
Deadly Voltage (2015)
Excellent sophorific
Well I watched it - I fell asleep. Not much of a plot, irritating teens, lacklustre characters with no depth. If you are having trouble sleeping put this on and you will drift off into slumberland pronto.
Bloodline (1979)
Not that dire
I recently caught this on an old channel. The reviews published are quite dire, but to be honest it wasn't that bad. I've seen a lot worse. It wasn't that brilliant either to make me want to watch it again, but it passed a couple of hours on a dull, snowy Sunday afternoon. One thing that was truly dreadful was Audrey Hepburn's hair. She definitely doesn't suit curls.
Total Bellas (2016)
Unbelievable
I chanced upon this show whilst channel surfing. I couldn't believe it. There are so many great shows that don't get renewed and this is in the 6th Season. Talk about self-obsessed. I really fear for the brain cells of those who follow this mush. As for wrestling - well I'm a fan of Sumo which has techniques and isn't WWF which is more about acting than real wrestling. In a world where children are trafficked, starved and dying these two "divas" need to get a life and start focussing on real issues.
Brave New World (2020)
Jury still out
I read Aldous Huxley's book a long time ago. It is a classic. This is not. All it is is soft porn for the masses. I've lasted five episodes, but have to say it has been a total waste of time. It could have been done so much better.
Mandy (2019)
Laugh a Minute
I do not like modern comedians - they invariably fail to make me laugh as I find their humour crude. Diane Morgan is just so funny. I watched all six episodes and it has left me wanting more. I laughed and laughed. She does it all with such a straight face. Her other series about Philomena Cunk is hilarious as well. How the interviewees kept straight faces I don't know. She is really extremely funny.
The Blacklist: The Kazanjian Brothers (No. 156/157) (2020)
Liz - Grrr
I am only rating this episode as a six. Not because of the graphics (although they were a bit dire) because I appreciate that the whole crew tried to finish the season for us but because of, you guessed it, Liz. Throughout the seven seasons there have been negative comments about her and whilst I did agree it did not stop me enjoying the storylines. However, how on earth could she do what she is doing? How dare she? She is one manipulative, deceitful, ungrateful woman - writers get a grip and make her see the light. Please.
The Blacklist: Brothers (2020)
No Red.
Whilst it was interesting to get the back story about Ressler and his brother I found it very slow, almost most of the scenes were in the dark, and they could have condensed it to 30 minutes. There was no Red at all, no annoying Agent Park (good), no Aram, no Cooper but Liz was there unfortunately. I've only given it a 6 which I think is the lowest rating I've ever given an episode due to the forgoing.
Reverie (2018)
Watched
I watched the first two episodes. It was OK but not enough to keep me wanting to watch another two. Reminded me in a way of the Doll's House. Personally, and perhaps this is just me, I can't see the allure of living in a "fake" world, no matter how good. So for me only a 5.
The Blacklist: Twamie Ullulaq (No. 126) (2020)
An OK episode
Not enough Red is my main complaint. However, it was an OK episode. They really do need to bin Park - she is a psycho and has zilch personality. Frankly I don't care what happens to her. She brings nothing to the table. I was really glad that Aram finally saw the light. I did not like the "new" Aram - totally out of character. Bring back the old Aram - he was likeable. The new one was not. Too much of Liz again.
The Blacklist: Cornelius Ruck (No. 155) (2020)
I liked it
After the last episode this one was indeed refreshing, even if the plot was a bit thin. A whole episode with Reddington - marvellous. No Liz - wonderful. Previous reviewers have complained that there is not enough of Reddington and then when we do have a full episode of just him - they complain. Enough. Still the best show on the box and I have watched from the beginning.
The Blacklist: Katarina Rostova (No. 3) (2019)
Foolish
I think this is the lowest rating I've ever given an episode of The Blacklist. It would have been even lower had not there been a lot of James Spader in it. How stupid is Liz. It's incredible that she ever managed to get into the FBI. They need to up their vetting process. I'm also finding the new Agent (Park) irritating.
Arabesque (1966)
What's not to like.
Gregory Peck, the lovely Sophia Loren and the deliciously bad Alan Badel with his silky voice - what's not to love? Although this film is over 50 years old, it (for me at least) still fresh. I have watched it several times over the years and absolutely love it. The music by Henry Mancini is great. Pure escapism.
