Stopping the Steal (2024)
Everyone needs to see how republican officials were attacked
Every single voter needs to be made aware of the actual events, documented here, that went down after the 2020 election.
I felt the film was well referenced, factual, and included testimony by many officials that were all involved in the aftermath of the election and the denial of the results by Donald Trump. Just mentioning that name causes many people to automatically make a judgment that this film is part of the "witch hunt" against said person, but there are plenty of testimonies of former allies here. These are people that are staunch Republicans, just stating the facts of what happened.
Bad Faith: Christian Nationalism's Unholy War on Democracy (2024)
Everyone should watch this!
It is educational and should be viewed by everyone that has any interest in our country's democracy or what is really going on inside MAGA. Never mind if you are a self proclaimed Patriot or an extreme left leaning liberal. It's not about left or right, it's about democracy itself. The film proves that Christian Nationalism is a growing movement looking to rule the country, even though they're a minority. Christians are not a majority in the US, nor was the country founded on Christianity, despite what some on the right would have you believe. Paul Weyrich lit the fire through the issue of abortion, conjoining evangelicals and Catholics, and fanned the flames into the January 6th insurrection and beyond. There is much more to that event than meets the eye and this documentary sheds light on the facts and events behind the scenes that led up to January 6th. Most importantly, the film teaches us that we need to protect our democracy before it is too late.
Destroyer (2018)
Misleading trailer, main character is awful in every way. Skip it!
If you value your time, don't bother with this one. Not even Nicole Kidman could save it. I think she's a great actress EXCEPT in this one!
Perhaps meant for film students to learn some sort of techniques, as mentioned by another reviewer. Not any sort of badass action flick as portrayed by the trailer. A dark, brooding, painful to watch waste of time.
Her (The Destroyer) makeup is supposed to make her look like a long time alcoholic, but she looks more like a zombie in a cheap haunt. It was a total distraction from the start, and she failed to act through it, or beyond it. It was never shown to the viewer how she supposedly got in this supposedly horrible condition where she walks as though she has crapped her pants. Why are her teeth rotten? She's an alcoholic but is only shown drinking one drink maybe twice. Huh? Poor character development. Gruff scratchy voice comes and goes, but she's at least consistently raggedy (when it's not a flashback).
Constant timeline shifts. Confusing.
I have noted this writer/director team to skip in the future, like I did with Redbox and Golan/Globus back in the day.
A cover or a trailer can be very misleading, but I feel like I was tricked, conned, and lied to. Should have read the reviews first! Lesson learned, I hope!
12 Feet Deep (2017)
Spoiler alert! Not a true story! If you watch will spoil 1.5 hours.
Very, very bad. There's a clue at the beginning that it's going to be bad, the acting. Tobin Bell from the Saw series seems like he doesn't even want to try and I thought something was wrong early on. He was only in a few scenes, but I don't know, it had a B movie feel early on. The main characters somewhat save the lack of talent in a small way for brief moments but overall the whole 4 person cast were phoning it in. We were having a conversation and ignoring the movie, which we rarely ever do. It just couldn't hold our attention. What's so bad about it? The whole stupid plot. Some lady just out of prison decides she's going to blackmail two girls trapped in a pool? It's just a silly idea and no one even tried to make it work. My wife said to give it one star because she likes swimming pools. Actually we had to give it one because zero isn't an option. We love movies and have watched more than most of you reading this. Take our word for it, skip this one. I can think of NO redeeming qualities. The beginning, the plot, the "climax" (a diabetic almost died), and the horrible end. I've wasted way too many words on this crap. Next.
