Is Blue Bloods prepping not one but two spinoffs? The big casting news for Season 14B seems to hint at that!
For a show that's run 14 seasons and is one of the biggest hits on its network, it's truly amazing Blue Bloods has never gotten a spinoff. Given CBS loves its franchises like FBI and NCIS, one would think it's natural. Heck, Fire Country has only had two seasons and it's getting a spinoff.
A reason may be how Blue Bloods is always focused on the Reagans more than other characters, and it's hard to see a show working without that connection. That family bond has made the show a huge hit, even if the upcoming second half of Season 14 will be the last.
There have been rumors of a possible spinoff with Donnie Wahlberg even hinting at one, although it may not be about his character, Danny Reagan. An...

When TV academy voters sit down to fill out their 2024 Emmy nominations ballots, they have to consider 73 shows for Best Comedy Series; this is down by 22 contenders from last year. As was the case last year, each member’s selections may not exceed the number of eventual nominations in a given category, which will be eight in this case.
On its quest for a second consecutive victory here, “The Bear” will have to fend off just two of its seven 2023 rivals: “Abbott Elementary” and “Only Murders in the Building.” Last year’s remaining contenders that did not air episodes during the June 1, 2023 to May 31, 2024 eligibility period are “Barry,” “Jury Duty,” “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” “Ted Lasso,” and “Wednesday,” the last of which is the only one known to have a new season in the works.

My guest this week is Judith Light.
Last season, we saw her take home an Emmy for her guest role in Poker Face, in which she hilariously climbed a rose trellis while cleverly camouflaged in a natty pink and green pantsuit. Such is Light’s talent: from the humor of the aforementioned old folks’ home resident terrorist, to her heartfelt turn as matriarch Shelley Pfefferman in Transparent; from The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, to ABC sitcom Who’s the Boss, she’s done it all. And then there are the multiple Tony wins…
Right now, Light can be seen in Max series Julia, in which she plays Blanche Knopf, the legendary publisher of Julia Child’s books, and in Starz’s horror-comedy show Shining Vale, Light is Courteney Cox’s fabulously passive-aggressive mother Joan.

As you prep your 2024 Emmy predictions for Best Comedy Actress, make sure to check out our photo gallery that catalogs the likeliest contenders. Including newly promoted 2023 supporting champ Ayo Edebiri (“The Bear”), three past winners are presently leading the pack, practically ensuring one of the most exciting acting races of the year.
Edebiri’s expected challengers include this category’s reigning victor, Quinta Brunson (“Abbott Elementary”), and 2021-2022 winner Jean Smart (“Hacks”). Brunson already lost to Smart two years ago but was honored that night for writing her show’s pilot episode.
None of the four actresses Brunson beat last year are in the running this time. Both Christina Applegate (“Dead to Me”) and Rachel Brosnahan (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”) starred on series that concluded during the last eligibility period, while Natasha Lyonne (“Poker Face”) and Jenna Ortega (“Wednesday”) did not continue in their roles soon enough to qualify.

Additionally, original Scream scribe Kevin Williamson will Direct the film.

When Power touched down on Starz 10 years ago, it was clear the premium cabler had found a big hit.
After a decade on the air, the main show is over, three spinoffs are on the air, and a fourth is on the way.
Power: Origins scored a formal pickup this week, and the concept is sure to get fans talking.
The series delves into the earlier years of Ghost and Tommy, played by Omari Hardwick and Joseph Sikora in the original series.
Hardwick’s journey as Ghost concluded in 2020 with the end of the original series, while Sikora continues to play Tommy in the sequel series Power Book IV: Force.
It’s unclear at this stage whether Hardwick and Sikora are involved in the prequel in any capacity, but we would certainly enjoy their narration if the story allows for it.

Exclusive: Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer is bulking up its Season 3 cast with 4 new actors joining the fold: Merrin Dungey, Allyn Moriyon, John Pirruccello and Philip Anthony-Rodriguez.

Dungey will portray Judge Regina Turner, a former public defender who is younger and more progressive than most judges in the district, but whether that’s a benefit to Mickey or not remains to be seen. Moriyon plays Eddie Rojas, a fitness buff who needs a very good lawyer. Luckily, Mickey can help him and then offers him the opportunity of a lifetime. Before she was cast in Marvel’s 2021 Disney+ series “Hawkeye,” Alaqua Cox had never considered becoming an actor. But then several friends sent her the same flyer looking for Indigenous deaf women in their 20s to try out for a new TV show.

Cox went through a three-month audition process to play Maya Lopez, a tough-as-nails enforcer for crime lord Wilson “Kingpin” Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio), who comes to question her loyalties when she learns Fisk ordered the death of her father, William (Zahn McClarnon). Starz will not be proceeding with a third season of 1970s-set series Minx.
The news is not surprising. Minx star Jake Johnson told Deadline last month that he did not expect a Season 3 renewal for the period erotic comedy, whose Season 2 finale aired Sept. 8.
Starz last January stepped in to rescue Minx, starring Ophelia Lovibond and Johnson, following the series’ cancellation by Max (then HBO Max) as part of cost-cutting tax write-offs while production was wrapping on Season 2. The premium network, which is in the process of cutting ties with owner Lionsgate, picked up both Season 1 and the unaired Season 2 of Minx, which is produced by Lionsgate Television. Both seasons will remain on the Starz app and all major platforms.

Bottom Dollar is closing shop.
Starz has opted to cancel Minx, the comedy about the first porn magazine for women, after a two-season run. The news comes after the series from creator Ellen Rapoport was originally developed for Warner Bros. Discovery streamer Max, which aired the first season and paid for a second before ultimately scrapping the show as a tax write-off with mere days remaining before production on the sophomore run was completed.
Minx was shopped by producers Lionsgate Television with the studio ultimately setting up the comedy starring Jake Johnson and Ophelia Lovibond at Starz, which is currently controlled by its parent company, Lionsgate. Max effectively paid to produce season two, with Lionsgate footing the bill to complete production and market season two. The second season premiered in July, in the thick of the writers and performers’ strikes making it challenging for cast members and producers to promote the show’s return.

Shining Vale star Mira Sorvino was the favorite heading into Tuesday’s (January 2) Celebrity Jeopardy! semi-finals, but it was Abbott Elementary‘s Lisa Ann Walter who made an impressive comeback to take home the win. The semi-finals saw Sorvino facing off against Walter and Ghosts star Utkarsh Ambudkar, and it initially looked like Sorvino’s game to lose. She’d previously won her first game against CSI: Miami actor Adam Rodriguez and NFL Network host Peter Schrager, which aired just a day after she was eliminated from Dancing With the Stars. Jeopardy! producer Sarah Whitcomb Foss previously described this episode as “her favorite match of the season,” and it certainly lived up to the billing as all three contestants got out to a hot start, with all three within $300 at the first break. Walter had a slight lead after the Jeopardy! round after finding the first Daily Double, going into...

Starz on Wednesday canceled Shining Vale after two seasons and removed the horror comedy starring Courteney Cox from its digital platforms. In an interview published Thursday, Minx star Jake Johnson told Deadline that he did not expect a Season 3 renewal for the period erotic comedy, which had been rescued by Starz after its cancellation by Max.
Shining Vale and Minx are Starz’s last remaining current comedy series. The premium network, which is in the process of separating from Minx producer Lionsgate Television, has about a half-dozen upcoming scripted series, all of them dramas.
According to sources, Starz executives in private conversations with producers have lamented that comedy is not working on the network.
There have not been development announcements for comedy projects set up at Starz in a year and a half, and I hear the network is not top of mind when comedy pitches are taken out.

We have some exciting TV news for you today, including significant updates on Kate Winslet's The Regime, a House of the Dragon star's new role, and more.
HBO is teaming back up with Kate Winslet for The Regime, a show we've heard much about over the last year.
The premium cabler has now confirmed that the show will premiere on Sunday, March 3, 2024, at 9 p.m.
The official trailer is very different from expected, but it gives Winslet a chance to display her stunning acting range.
What more could we want?
The Regime tells the story of one year within the walls of the palace of a modern European regime as it begins to unravel.
Starring alongside Winslet are Matthias Schoenaerts, Guillaume Gallienne, Andrea Riseborough, Martha Plimpton, and Hugh Grant.
Winslet tends to pick outstanding projects. Case in point: Mare of Easttown was a massive hit for HBO, so we're...

The horror comedy series Shining Vale premiered on Starz back in March of 2022, then the second season reached the airwaves this past October. Unfortunately, there won’t be a season 3, as Variety reports that the show has been cancelled for the most common reason a show gets cancelled: it “did not find a large enough audience to continue.” But Starz is going further than just cancelling this show, as they’re also going to be scrubbing it from their archives. “Not only will the show be cut by the network, the first two seasons will be removed from the Starz streaming service at the end of the year.“
Created by Jeff Astrof and Sharon Horgan, the first season of Shining Vale followed a dysfunctional family that moves from the city to a small town into a house in which terrible atrocities have taken place. But no one seems to notice except for Patricia “Pat” Phelps,...

Starz has canceled its horror-comedy Shining Vale after two seasons.
The series, starring Courteney Cox as a woman who begins seeing and communicating with ghosts, finished its second (and now final season) on Dec. 1. In addition to canceling the show, Starz will also remove Shining Vale from its streaming library at the end of the month.
Jeff Astrof, who co-created Shining Vale with Sharon Horgan, shared news of the show’s end on social media Wednesday. “This show gave me unrelenting joy to work on. Not a single bad day. Please watch the Starz (turns out, Limited) series Shining Vale before 12/31,” he wrote.
Shining Vale earned generally positive reviews for its first season, which premiered in March 2022. It earned a renewal in May of that year, with season two premiering in October 2023. It was less successful in drawing viewers; sources say that was ultimately behind the decision to both cancel...

Starz has canceled Shining Vale after two seasons, Deadline has confirmed. Sources close to production revealed that the Courteney Cox- and Greg Kinnear-led series “did not find a large enough audience” to continue.
Both seasons also are set to be removed from the streamer’s library.
Sources said producer Warner. Bros. TV tried to sell the series elsewhere but did not succeed.
Season 1 of the series from creators Jeff Astrof and Sharon Horgan followed Pat (Cox) and Terry Phelps (Kinnear), a married couple who cash in their life savings and move from a cramped Brooklyn apartment to an old Victorian mansion in Connecticut, as a last-ditch effort to save their marriage after Pat’s torrid affair with the handyman. Their kids Gaynor and Jake are pissed, and as disconnected as teenagers can get. Pat is losing her grip on them, and Terry doesn’t see that Pat might...

After just two seasons, the Courteney Cox-starring horror series “Shining Vale” has been given the axe by Starz, and that’s not even the worst news about the show this afternoon.
Variety reports, “The Season 2 finale of the horror comedy, produced by Warner Bros. TV, aired on December 1. Not only will the show be cut by the network, the first two seasons will be removed from the streaming service at the end of the year.”
“Shining Vale” Season 2 premiered on the Starz streaming service on October 13, 2023, and Variety notes that the show didn’t find enough of an audience to justify a third season.
The bigger issue here, however, is the news that both seasons of “Shining Vale” will be removed from the Starz streaming service. The series has to date not received a single physical media release, so this could be another case of a streaming project being...

Shining Vale has been canceled at Starz after 2 seasons.
Variety also reports that the show will be removed from Starz’s app at the end of the year.
Keep reading to find out more…
The reason for the cancellation? The show did not have a large enough audience to be renewed, and the December 1 season 2 finale will act as the show’s final episode.
Shining Vale is a horror comedy about a dysfunctional family that moves from the city to a small town into a house in which terrible atrocities have taken place. But no one seems to notice except for Pat, who’s convinced she’s either depressed or possessed – turns out, the symptoms are exactly the same. Patricia “Pat” Phelps (Courteney Cox) is a former “wild child” who rose to fame by writing a raunchy, drug-and-alcohol-soaked women’s empowerment novel. Fast forward 17 years later, Pat is clean and sober but totally unfulfilled.
