Amar Singh Chamkila’s Jukebox Is An Asset To Be Treasured ( Photo Credit – Netflix India / YouTube )
Rating – 10 out of 5 stars! Some Albums outperform!
The release of Amar Singh Chamkila is still a few days away, but the jukebox of the film is out, and this is one film where Bollywood outperformed after a very long time. Recently, I was putting all my hopes for a good Bollywood music album from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi, totally forgetting about the Chamkila biopic. But finally, Ar Rahman, Imtiaz Ali, and Irshad Kamil’s magical trio arrived unannounced, taking my breath away. And this album is the only soul music you need right now.
If you talk about a brilliantly balanced album from a commercial film, you would struggle when you encountered it last. Last year, Animal had a good album, undoubtedly, but it never stayed with you. Similarly, Rocky Aur Rani Ki...

Writer-producer Kanika Dhillon says the way Indian cinema views female empowerment, female characters end up getting stuck in a narrow spectrum. The screenwriter-producer, who has penned films such as ‘Dunki’, ‘Haseen Dilruba’ and ‘Manmarziyaan’, notes that female characters in Indian cinema are either righteous, or they exist only to be the male protagonist’s source of motivation, when there can be many shades to these characters on screen.
Dhillon spoke to Ians and shared her vision of female empowerment in the film industry and the means to achieve it.
“Female empowerment in Indian cinema has been stuck in a spectrum of either righteous, holier-than-thou characters, or existing to be the male protagonist’s sole source of motivation, the black and white,” she said.
“As a writer and producer, I believe their empowerment comes from depicting them in their nuanced glory, exploring the depth of their psyche, their imperfections and their conflicts,...

Taapsee Pannu said, “One of the writers on the film is Kanika Dhillon, who hails from Amritsar, who is from that land, jahan pe unko pata tha ki logo ki kis tarah ki struggle hoti hai, or unka apna take on Ielts and how they prepare for it. “Jawan” has been in theatres for three weeks, and the film is breaking records daily. With mass-appealing action sequences, emotional character arcs, and the screen presence of Shah Rukh Khan like never before, Atlee has created a movie that is full of awe and can’t be missed. With it, Shah Rukh Khan solidified his comeback as the heartthrob of people after his five-year hiatus from Bollywood. Critically, though, “Jawan” is deemed too far-fetched in terms of logic and lacks substantial content (though I can’t entirely agree with it), as it is a compilation of Atlee’s entire body of work, stitching together elements from different sources, both national and international. But it is odd to seek logic in a work like this, as it is meant to be a mass entertainer from the beginning, celebrating the persona of its protagonist, and director Atlee has accomplished this task with conviction.

While keeping the plot under wraps, Rai told Variety, “When we were working on the ‘Tere Ishk Mein’ script, we realized that we are catching on to the same aggression. And in terms of genre, it’s falling in that genre of tragedy and I said, it’s actually belonging to that world. They’re not similar stories, but they have a similar heartbeat. We were getting the same feeling what we were getting when we were working on ‘Raanjhanaa.’ I said, let’s start belonging to that world.”

Gone are the times when men were just macho heroes rescuing women. This is the era of vulnerable, compassionate and sensitive men. Men who can cry, who are not shy about seeking help when they need it and acknowledging the worth of the women in their lives. Men who can express their feelings and not hide them.

Pannu also has a raft of films coming up, including Sony Pictures’ official remake of “Run Lola Run” (“Looop Lapeta”), cricket biopic “Shabaash Mithu,” sports drama “Rashmi Rocket,” Netflix thriller “Haseen Dillruba” and comedy “Woh Ladki Hai Kahaan?”
Pannu began her career in South Indian cinema, debuting with Telugu-language “Jhummandi Naadam” in 2010, followed by Tamil-language “Aadukalam” (2011), which won a clutch of accolades at India’s national film awards. Even after breaking through into the Hindi-language Bollywood film industry, Pannu continues to act in South Indian films.
Early on in her career, Pannu made the bold (for India) choice of not being an ornamental foil to the leading man, instead switching to powerful, women-centric roles.

Mumbai, March 9 (Ians) Hit director-actor combos are all set to be back in business this year. From Rohit Shetty-Ranveer Singh to Salman Khan-Prabhudheva and from Taapsee Pannu-Anurag Kashyap to Ranbir Kapoor-Ayan Mukerji, there are a host of teams lined up in some of the biggest projects, which have spelt magic at the box office in the past.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh feels this is always a boon. "It is always better to repeat 'jodi's. It doesn't matter if it is actors working again with each other or directors reuniting with actors. The expectation of the audiences increases and there is a curiosity. But, yes, at the end of the day it all depends on content. That has to be good," he said.
Talking about working with Abbas-Mustan again after eight years, in the upcoming film Penthouse, actor Bobby Deol said...

After actress Payal Ghosh accused Anurag Kashyap of sexual misconduct, several celebrities from the industry have come forward to support the filmmaker, saying #MeToo movement should not be misused.
"It is the joint responsibility of women and men both to carefully protect the sanctity of #Metooindia … It is a very very very important movement that should not be misused for any other reason but the dignity of women," filmmaker Anubhav Sinha wrote on Twitter while tagging Kashyap.
Actress Tisca Chopra wrote: "To know my friend Anurag Kashyap is to know generosity, honesty and decency at its core.. even a cursory look at his work reveals his worldview on women.. don't know a bigger supporter of talent, men or women."
Payal has alleged that Anurag tried to molest her in 2014, while Kashyap has reacted saying the charge is baseless.
Filmmaker Hansal Mehta also came forward to support Kashyap through a string of tweets.
