Orphan Black: Echoes has been canceled after just one season, which is a loss for fans yet there are reasons why the series couldn't be successful.
Premiering in 2013, Orphan Black had a fantastic hook. Small-time crook Sarah Manning sees an exact double of her, a cop named Beth, kill herself. Taking on Beth's identity to hide out from some bad guys, Sarah soon discovers she's one of several clones being hunted.
The five-season run on BBC America became a sensational cult show with massive critical acclaim. The key to it all was the casting of Tatiana Maslany as the various clones. It made her an instant star and even earned her an Emmy award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama.
The show has retained its following and a podcast sequel series. Orphan Black: Echoes was set 30 years in the future as the cloning tech has grown and Sarah's grown...

You can’t keep a copy down when it comes to the characters of Orphan Black: Echoes.
The series has done a fantastic job separating itself from its parent series. Until now, I have been reticent about making too many comparisons between the two.
However, Orphan Black: Echoes deserves praise for distinguishing itself from the original Orphan Black.

Sure, there’s a bigger budget, but a show is much more than its money.
While Orphan Black: Echoes doesn’t have nearly as much camp as the original, it boasts a more robust, cleaner story.
By focusing on multiple aged versions of printouts, the series adds a different kind of depth to the idea of multiple copies of a single individual.

What do Robert Downey Jr., Idris Elba, Lily Gladstone and Maya Rudolph have in common?
These four stars are not only nominees at this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards but are also the sole representatives of their respective series: Downey (supporting actor in a limited series for “The Sympathizer”), Elba (lead drama actor for “Hijack”), Gladstone (supporting actress in a limited series for “Under the Bridge”) and Rudolph (lead comedy actress for “Loot”). While each of these talented actors has a shot at winning, history shows that it’s rare for someone to take home an Emmy when their show has no other nominations.
Over the past four decades, only six actors have won an Emmy as the sole nominee from their show: Louie Anderson (supporting comedy actor for “Baskets” in 2016), Richard Kiley (lead drama actor for “A Year in the Life” in 1987), Regina King (lead actress limited for “Seven Seconds...

Allow me to quote myself for a second. From a June “Awards Circuit” column: “Since this is the last chance for ‘Reservation Dogs’ to get some Emmy awards attention, it would be a shame if it didn’t finally get some long overdue recognition.”
We did it, kids. “Reservation Dogs,” which had been virtually ignored by TV Academy voters for the first two seasons, finally got some Emmy nomination love right as it ends its run. And it gives me renewed faith in the fact that sometimes the media can make a real difference in shining a spotlight on deserved shows and performers.
After all, we’ve all been tubthumping for “Reservation Dogs” since it first went on the air at FX. It’s a special show, and I was reminded of that again while watching an FYC screening of the finale at Vidiots in Eagle Rock. I’d seen...

Caution: This article contains Spoilers for Orphan Black: Echoes Season 1.
The original Orphan Black became a sensation when it debuted in 2013. It told the story of Sarah, a con artist in Toronto who sees an exact double of herself jump in front of a train. Taking on her doppelganger’s life as a cop, Sarah soon discovers she’s one of several clones being hunted by a mysterious group.
The show won over audiences and critics with its cast and terrific writing with plenty of twists. The real draw was Tatiana Maslany, whose performance as all the clones was so fantastic that she won an Emmy award for Best Lead Actress in a Drama.

AMC is sitting on a treasure trove of television that deserves more attention. Everyone knows the house responsible for three of the finest entries in the age of the TV antihero -- "Mad Men," "Breaking Bad," and "Better Call Saul" -- is home to "The Walking Dead" and its many sequels and spinoffs. But it's also the network that's given us "Orphan Black," "Halt and Catch Fire," "Dark Winds," "Lodge 49," "Into the Badlands," and all the other best shows you've heard of but never gotten around the watching because there's just too much damn interesting TV to check out as is. Thankfully, though, one of the more underseen jewels in AMC's crown -- not to mention the greatest vampire show on television -- is about to become available to a much larger audience.

Exclusive: BBC Studios Productions, which is behind series such as ABC’s Dancing With The Stars and CBS’ Ghosts, is bringing together its U.S. and UK production teams in a restructure that will see the departure of Valerie Bruce.
The company, which is the commercial production division of the British public broadcaster, is aligning its U.S. unscripted entertainment and scripted teams, largely based out of LA, with their UK counterparts.
As such, Bruce, who is General Manager of its LA Productions unit, is leaving after 13 years.
The move will see Ryan O’Dowd, EVP, Entertainment & Music, reporting directly to Matt Forde, BBC Studios Productions’ MD, Global Entertainment, who is based in London. [Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Orphan Black: Echoes Season 1 Episode 3 “Pegasus Girl.”] Orphan Black: Echoes, in the latest episode, delves into the past of the younger printout, Jules (Amanda Fix), and in the present, she goes on her own journey to try to get answers about who she is, but she does, in the end, return to Lucy (Krysten Ritter). Why would someone want versions at two different ages of the same person? That’s something both want to know, but just because Jules has turned to Lucy doesn’t necessarily mean she trusts her. “I think that everything is so upside down for her in the world and she’s suddenly kind of in a position where this thing that makes no sense to her is starting to make a little more sense,” creator, writer, showrunner, and executive producer Anna Fishko tells TV Insider. “And Lucy’s really her only source for that information.

Considering how much storytelling has been accomplished in such a short time, it's almost hard to believe this fantastic series has only had three episodes.
The first season of Orphan Black: Echoes is only a fourth of its way through its episode count, but it still doesn't feel like nearly enough to fully convey the past, present, and future of these incredibly well-written characters.
Lucy isn't as present during Orphan Black: Echoes Season 1 Episode 3, focusing primarily on Jules and where she came from, which works in the episode's favor since the tone has shifted back to its darker atmosphere.
Even though new characters trickle in with each new episode, this one, in particular, felt as though it was setting up the launch pad to kick the story into high gear.
With all that being said, let's get into this episode and review the good and a few smatterings of bad...

Every TV Fanatic knows that there is always the good and the bad that comes with a strong first episode of a series because while the story likely hooks the audience immediately, maintaining that level into the following episode can be a hit or miss.
Not with Orphan Black: Echoes Season 1 Episode 2, though.
Once again, the show has delivered a perfectly paced story that doesn't feel bloated or convoluted despite introducing more characters, both old and new, while still managing to move the character-driven plot along.
If this episode deserves credit for one thing, it's its seamless shift in tone throughout.
A lot of shows try to adjust tone, thinking that it'll help with the pacing or atmosphere of the story to strengthen the themes and vibes or as a failsafe to keep audiences interested, but this tactic rarely works as it usually takes viewers out of the story.

When the series ended in 2017, nobody involved with “Orphan Black” really wanted to leave its labyrinthine world behind.
“The vibe there was special, the crew, the cast, the creators, it was a real love in, to be honest,” co-creator John Fawcett told IndieWire. “And there was lots of joking about the spin-off. My vote was that it should be Donnie and Art living in a bachelor suite because their wives left them, and they’re solving crimes. But that didn’t really fly. We also talked about wanting to see Alison and Rachel and Sarah, what are they doing in the future? There were lots of conversations about the future of ‘Orphan Black.'”
Rip to the Art and Donnie spin-off, but what creator Anna Fishko eventually crafted with “Orphan Black: Echoes” — on which Fawcett is a co-executive producer and director — is a smart distillation of the original’s tone...

A madman tries to play God by using cutting-edge technology in Orphan Black: Echoes. The year is 2052, but the Orphan Black spin-off show appears to be surprisingly grounded. And unlike the mother show, there’s no business of visually identical clones here. This one focuses on human printing (not particularly different from cloning though) by using full body scans. The show’s main characters – Eleanor, Lucy, and Jules are all the same person, but of different ages. They’re all printouts though, of the original Eleanor, who’s married to scientist Kira Manning. Doctor Manning is the one who’s the inventor of the printing technology (and the machine) but she’s not the person who’s doing the questionable things. That would be this rich businessman, Darros, and his minions. In this article we’re gonna look into the ending of Orphan Black: Echoes and the possibilities of a new season.

In 2013, Orphan Black broke onto the scene with an exhilarating, unputdownable first season. It was an instant sensation, and so was lead star Tatiana Maslany. The show eventually fell off the wagon but still managed to go on for four more seasons and spawn a cult following. Eleven years after it was introduced to us, we now have a spin-off titled Orphan Black: Echoes. Does the new show have the same intensity as the original one? Let us take a closer look and find out.
Spoilers Ahead
What Happens in the series?
A woman waking up with no memory of who she is is probably the most intriguing way to start a show. It’s only normal for Lucy to react in an aggressive way and take her flight from the Additive HQ, despite Doctor Kira Manning trying her best to calm her “creation” down. Doctor Manning is the daughter of Sarah Manning,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Orphan Black: Echoes series premiere “Pilot.”] The world of Orphan Black expands with the new series Echoes starring Krysten Ritter, and the premiere includes a major reveal that connects back to the original series. The episode begins with Ritter’s character, disoriented as she wakes up to a scientist played by Keeley Hawes. She can’t remember anything and eventually escapes the room, finding a lab with computer-printed body parts. “You were created. You were printed from a high-resolution scan using a very complex process,” Hawes’ scientist tells her. “It’s a new technology. It’s the fourth-dimensional printing of human tissue.” It’s not until the end of the episode that the scientist’s identity is revealed when she calls her Aunt Cosima (!) and tells her, “I think I may have done something terrible.” Yes, Hawes is playing the adult version of Sarah Manning’s (Tatiana Maslany) daughter,...
