Kevin & Matthew McManus, the brothers behind The Block Island Sound, have wrapped production on a new horror movie titled Redux Redux, Variety reports this afternoon.
In the upcoming Redux Redux, “Irene Kelly (Michaela McManus) travels through the multiverse, killing her daughter’s murderer over and over again.
“She grows addicted to the revenge streak, putting her own humanity in jeopardy.”
Michaela McManus stars alongside Jim Cummings, Jeremy Holm, Taylor Misiak (“Dave”), Grace Van Dien (“Stranger Things”) and Stella Marcus.
Redux Redux is the first movie from the McManus brothers’ Mothership Motion Pictures.
“We couldn’t be more excited to be working with the entire Mothership team to bring Redux Redux to the big screen,” said the McManus brothers. “We’re thrilled to follow up The Block Island Sound with another genre bender starring our sister in her most violent role yet. We can’t wait to share it with audiences next year.

Our friends have been to past Hard:line Film Festival editions in Regensburg, Germany. A Unesco World Heritage Site it is an incredibly beautiful city in Bavaria at the northmost point of the Danube River. What a place to host an international film festival for genre film. We can see why friends have gone in the past. This year another friend, Ted Geoghegan, is headed over to screen his latest, the German premiere of Brooklyn 45, and hold a retrospective of his other films, Mohawk and We Are Still Here. He will also hold a masterclass for guests of the festival and just be the all-around nice guy that he is, enjoying some good old Bavarian hospitality. For four days in April a small selection...

Hey there! If you’re reading this, you must still be around, and I’m glad to see it. These are the films that entranced me the most with their visions of movie magic; I couldn’t get to everything , but I saw what I saw, and that’s that. (Time seems to be set on permanent acceleration these days.)
It was another great year for horror, and judging by this alphabetical, 100% accurate and objective list, one teeming with variety; from Beau is Afraid’s bone-dry hilarious foray into existential Mothering, to Stuart Gordon-inspired Skinamax bodyswapping (Suitable Flesh), and straight tributes (Thanksgiving).
Here are a few of my favorite horror things from the year two thousand and twenty-three:

Hollywood reeled in 2023. There’s no way around that. From striking creatives to the existential crisis of theatrical futures, this year held the entire entertainment industry in its death-like grasp. But as they say, when the going gets tough, the tough double down on the audience least likely to abandon ship. And anyone who’s actually sat and counted how many annual horror conventions there are knows exactly which audience to bet on.
It’s entirely possible that horror is the most stable and reliable movie genre, but just because its demographic is almost certainly the most voracious doesn’t mean they’re the least discerning. If anything, the list of films that almost made our top 10 would alone be ample ballast for the argument that horror aficionados cast their nets wider than fans of other genres. Take this list as a starting point, and then take it way further than you ever dared.

I do not know how anyone attending Sitges each year does not feel a little bit of remorse that they cannot have themselves cloned, ship out those clones to each and every screening of each and every film in the lineup, then collect all those clones, mash their memories all back into one, then consume those memories so that you could say, yes, you've seen *all the movies at Sitges*. We have a limited amount of time to spend here but we are going to have to come back and go over this massive, massive list of film that the folks at Sitges have programmed for this year's festival. This weekend marks the release of writer/director Ted Geoghegan's third feature Brooklyn 45, now streaming on Shudder after a successful festival run earlier this year. Set in a single room over the course of one bitter cold night between Christmas and New Years Eve in 1945, a small group of war buddies get together to support an old friend…and commune with the dead in an impromptu seance. Naturally, the night does not go as planned. Secrets are revealed, morals are tested, and the group is visited by a ghost or two.
We sat down ahead of the release of Brooklyn 45 to talk with Ted Geoghegan about the process of fleshing out his military-focused story with his father (a retired U.S. Air Force Staff Sergeant), why he enjoys working in specific periods of time, and what lessons modern American can learn from Post-wwii America.

Ted Geoghegan's Brooklyn 45 transports you to a impromptu séance in 1945, where a group of war veterans are haunted by the ghosts of their past. An incredible character piece, with mezmerizing performances, this is a film you won't want to miss and I was fortunate to catch it on the big screen this past March at the Overlook Film Festival. With the film having premiered today on Shudder, I wanted to share details from the post-screening Q&a, where Ted talked about working on the story with his father, creating this fantastic role for Larry Fessenden, and much more!
Origins of the story:
Ted Geoghegan: When we were making We Are Still Here, there's a séance scene in that movie between Larry Fessenden and Andrew Sensenig. Whenever I would come to film festivals, everybody would say, "Oh, that movie was really good, but man, I love that séance." My joke response was always,...

Easing into the first few minutes of Brooklyn 45, one gets a feeling of a slower pace of life. Not just for the times it is set in but also in the manner in which the story unfolds stylistically as well as narratively. This is a film that unpacks slowly and takes its time to say what it wants to say. Set in post-war America, it is about a group of veterans who meet for a reunion at their friend’s place, who is grieving his wife’s premature passing.
The dramatis personae of the story are Clive, the recently widowed Colonel played by Larry Fessenden; Major Paul Di Franco, played by Ezra Buzzington, who is a tough, no-nonsense soldier for whom the war never ended; and Jeremy Holm as Archie, a soldier who has a reputation for being courageous and is respected by the squad. He is currently defending...

Plot: Trapped in their host’s lounge, the Greatest Generation now finds themselves put to one final test, with their only route to freedom being more bloodshed.
Review: The 1940s isn’t an era we see utilized often in horror so it immediately brings up some intrigue when a genre film takes place here. Due to World War 2, the 40s are often relegated to some war stories, and here is no different. Brooklyn 45 follows five military veterans meeting together after the war is over. But they soon find their friendship tested as their past comes back to haunt them. It’s an interesting concept, that caters to those that like a slow burn. But those expecting answers may end up a tad disappointed.

Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret. (Kelly Fremon Craig)
Like Judy Blume’s treasured young adult classic, Kelly Fremon Craig’s Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret begins in 1970 with 11-year-old Margaret Simon (Abby Ryder Fortson) getting the worst news any New York City-raised child can get: her family is moving to New Jersey. It’s not only that Margaret will have to leave behind her wise-cracking grandmother Sylvia (Kathy Bates) or her friends or school, but that being 11 years old often means everything is the end of the world. The crushing despair that makes adolescence feel like a rueful eternity is Fremon Craig’s specialty. – Fran H. (full review)

In Brooklyn 45, World War II has recently ended, and the wounds that it’s left are raw for some of the veterans at the film’s center. Among them is Major Archibald “Archie” Stanton (Jeremy Holm), who’s on trial for war crimes, and Lieutenant Colonel Clive “Hock” Hockstatter (Larry Fessenden), who drinks away the sorrow of his wife’s suicide, committed weeks prior after raving that their neighbors were Nazi spies. It’s the holidays and concern for Hock has brought the comrades in arms together, who are corralled into the drawing room that they will occupy for almost the entirety of the film—and not always of their own free will.
Among the other guests are buttoned-up Major Paul Difranco (Ezra Buzzington) and ace interrogator Marla Sheridan (Anne Ramsay), who brings her husband, Bob (Ron E. Rains), into their friend group. It’s through Bob, who spent the war comfortably behind a desk,...

"The ghosts of your past would like to have a word with you." Shudder has revealed an official trailer for an indie horror creation titled Brooklyn 45, the latest from indie genre filmmaker Ted Geoghegan. This premiered at the 2023 SXSW Film Festival, also playing at The Overlook Festival, and will be streaming on Shudder (as well as on AMC+) starting in June this summer. It's one of these original indie creations that deserves our attention and if you have the time, check it out at home. It's set in the 1970s and takes place entirely at a Brooklyn brownstone. Five military veterans, best friends since childhood, gather together to support their troubled host, and the metaphoric ghosts of their past become all-too-literal. The film stars Anne Ramsay, Ron E. Rains, Jeremy Holm, Larry Fessenden, Ezra Buzzington, and Kristina Klebe. This starts out rather nice and turns into something crazy & intense in the second half.

With a tip of the hat to Agatha Christie and a nod toward “Twelve Angry Men,” writer-director Ted Geoghegan (“Mohawk”) skillfully sustains suspense and showcases a strong cast in “Brooklyn 45,” a supernatural-themed chamber drama about a small group of World War II vets entangled in a séance where visits from the restless departed are hardly the worst threat to participants. Set for a June 9 premiere on the Shudder streaming service after a sprint on the festival circuit, the film impresses as a well-crafted period piece with some pointed observations about paranoia and xenophobia that feel, discomfortingly, as relevant as recent news reports about over-reactions by stand-your-ground shooters.

As the sun bled out its final rays of warmth on New Orleans on March 30th, we gathered in bloodthirsty droves around the Prytania Uptown Theatre, eager to sink our teeth into the latest cinematic incarnation of Count Dracula with the world premiere of Renfield, featuring the Count himself, Nicolas Cage, in attendance. Standing in line wearing my The Lost Boys T-shirt and carrying a pair of vampire teeth in my pocket (I planned on inserting them over my incisors later that night at the Vampire Ball), I couldn’t believe that another Overlook Film Festival was upon us. I was still reeling from my first experiences with Overlook back in 2022, and about 10 months later, it was already time to return for another round of what I’ve come to know as “summer camp for horror fans.”

Brooklyn 45
Five people. One room. It’s late at night in Brooklyn, just after the end of the Second World War, and friends have gathered to comfort one of their number who has recently lost his wife, who shocks them when he says that he wants their help to hold a séance. Writer/director Ted Geoghegan is a little nervous about his new film, Brooklyn 45, because it’s not stuffed to the gills with supernatural shocks like some horror fans may be hoping; rather, its focus is on the psychological, and on the damage done by a conflict which led people to encounter situations they simply were not prepared for. It went down well at SXSW, however, and as it screened at the Overlook Film Festival, I asked him how he managed to assemble its impressive cast.
“I had written the role of Clive for Larry Fessenden,” he begins.

How far would you go to get one more chance to hold your missing son? That’s the question at the center of the new horror film, “From Black.” And let’s just say the answer to that question is much more extreme than you might imagine.

It’s almost a cliche for a supernatural ghost film to include characters with a “haunted” past. How many times have you heard about a horror film where ghosts aren’t always literal and could be someone’s dark secrets? Thankfully, filmmaker Ted Geoghegan’s “Brooklyn 45” enhances its own fairly obvious story with an incredible cast, a claustrophobic, beautiful setting, and a thoughtful (albeit heavy-handed) message to rise above what could have been just another ghost film.

It’s two days after Christmas, 1945 and the war is over, or at least it’s supposed to be. When Colonel Clive Hockstetter (Larry Fessenden) invites his old army buddies over for dinner, they all suspect it’s just a simple get-together for old times’ sake, but he has other plans. What follows will change all of their lives, and not for the better in Ted Geoghegan’s third directorial feature, Brooklyn 45. An examination of loss, regret, trauma, and the way that the past is never truly done with us, no matter how much we try to pretend it is. Hock (Fessenden) has been something of a mess since his wife Susie passed on Thanksgiving. When his friends gather, it’s mostly to give him some support in...

Ted Geoghegan's "Brooklyn 45" could be a '40s teleplay read over outdated radio sets — you can practically hear the static crackle behind line readings. The World War II era chamber piece confronts our obsession with fighting ghosts and humankind's refusal to move onward, all contained to a New York City brownstone. There's a heavy emphasis on conversations between old war buddies that draw away from the horror influences of a botched paranormal ritual, as Geoghegan lays the atmosphere on thick while the camera pans around a veteran's cluttered memorabilia den. It's a chilling story of the specters that haunt our memories, not the most fierce supernatural lock-in. Still, for those who latch onto dialogue-heavy stage play performances, "Brooklyn 45" speaks to the unshakable terrors of existence.
It's December 27, 1945, and Lt. Col. Clive Hockstatter (Larry Fessenden) has opened his home to four friends with ties to his World War II deployment.

Despite the spooky séance setup in Brooklyn 45, writer/director Ted Geoghegan is less interested in exploring a literal interpretation of ghosts. Instead, the filmmaker connects the ghosts of our past as a metaphor for present-day national turmoil and paranoia. The period-set chamber piece gives precedence to fraught tension among friends over conventional scares.
It’s December 27, 1945, mere months after the official end of World War II. The nation is still reeling, but for Lt. Col. Clive “Hock” Hockstatter (Larry Fessenden), it’s even worse; he lost his wife Susie on Thanksgiving. In an attempt to reconnect with her, Hock invites military friends Marla Sheridan (Anne Ramsay), her husband Bob (Ron E. Rains), Major Archibald Stanton (Jeremy Holm), and Major Paul Difranco (Ezra Buzzington) over to his Park Slope Brownstone in Brooklyn under the guise of drinks among old friends. They barely have time to catch up when Hock locks...

It’s supposed to be a nostalgic, supportive night. On December 27, 1945, five military veterans and friends from childhood gather inside a Brooklyn brownstone to reminisce about old times, celebrate the end of World War II, and comfort a grieving host whose wife has recently passed. But what starts with sentimental banter and a strong whiskey buzz quickly spirals into an unexpected séance that conjures the paranormal, sparks some paranoia, and builds to a possession that seems hell-bent on staining the wood-paneled parlor with as much blood as possible.
That’s the fun, gory, alarming premise behind Brooklyn 45, Ted Geoghegan’s third feature film that asks a lot of heavy questions in-between its abrupt moments of splatter. When does the war really end? Who decides when it’s over? How do you determine ethics in the midst of battle? Within the useful limitations of a one-night, one-location get-together, Geoghegan mostly makes good on his script,...

Movies, TV shows and, of course, barbecue. It’s all on the marquee at this year’s SXSW, the annual celebration of all things entertainment being showcased in Austin from March 10 to 19. From Hollywood blockbusters like “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” to iconoclastic fare like “I’m a Virgo” — the first foray into television for indie maverick Boots Riley — there’s a wild variety in this year’s lineup. Historically, the festival was better known for its musical offerings, but that’s changed in recent years as Hollywood has embraced the Texas gathering.
And while Sundance and Cannes may be higher profile, SXSW has established itself as an important stop for movies and shows looking to generate notoriety — “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” for instance, premiered at last year’s festival before racking up more than $100 million in ticket sales and dominating the Oscar nominations. Yellow Veil Pictures announced today they have boarded world sales on Blackout, Larry Fessenden’s werewolf horror film that’s currently in post-production, and have released the first teaser poster. The film wrapped principal photography in the fall in New York’s Hudson Valley and will hit the festival circuit later this year.
Blackout marks the second pairing of Glass Eye Pix, the New York production shingle headed by Fessenden, and Yellow Veil Pictures, having previously collaborated successfully on world sales for Fessenden’s 2019 Depraved, which was released by IFC Midnight in the US to great acclaim.
The film follows a fine-arts painter convinced he is a werewolf wreaking havoc on a small American town every full moon. It is the latest addition to Fessenden’s own Monsterverse, along with his breakout feature, the vampire-themed Independent Spirit Award-Winning feature Habit (1995) and 2019’s Frankenstein riff, Depraved.
