No, this is not a film about someone who maxed out their credit card at Amazon.com. That was the first good yuk, though. The idiot responsible for naming the film was a master of Chinglish (brutalizing the English language). The titel SHOULD have been "Charging Out OF THE Amazon. Leaving out the preposition "of" and the article "the" gives it a comical Chinglish name. But things get much worse. There is no DI (Drill Instructor) in the world with a beard like the one in this fantasy. Only rebel armies in the hills have soldiers with beards. Another funny character was the so-called "general" . Generals do not participate in field operations. The copying of Navy Seal training is painfully obvious, as is the Vietnam prisoner sequence with cages in the water. Unbelievably amatuerish. The jingoistic pair of Chinese characters act as if they are the only two people in the military who know martial arts. In the Navy Seals, there are guys who drop out who have better martial arts training than these two knuckleheads. It is a Chinese thing to have trained medical staff to take care of injuries in training. In real training there is no medical staff available for assistance; you just get transported to the field hospital. Almost every recruit in the real Navy Seals has martial arts training of some kind, and the first things you learn is how to block punches and kicks, not to dish them out. The constant pandering of the Chinese characters to the African recruits is also unrealistic. At least the film is not boring; but it is pretty hilarious. There are some genres that Chinese producers are just not good at making: science-fiction, military realism, and comedies (with the exception of "Kung Fu Hustle", which was a great Chinese comedy. They should stick to Zhang Yimou and Chen Kaige type films, although unfortunately, there are very few Chinese producers and directors currently with the talent of those two great filmmakers.
