4.6/10. Watchable but not recommended
I woke up feeling generous today, hence this rating. There is some entertainment value here and one can say it's not boring. But it's not good either.
First of all, the acting. Every actor here except Dempsey and Hoffman was terrible or mediocre, at best. Casting director did a bad job, and it's the first time i say something like that in my reviews. Why hire talentless actors? Contact, maybe? Still, a good director can make a bad actor look good. But as it seems, Eli Roth was bored and didn't care much.
However, i haven't even mentioned the worst aspect here. Why every character was unlikeable or dull? Was the viewer supposed to root for the murderer? There are many dumb horror movies nowadays that almost make you root for the villain, i guess it's some kind of trend. Let me give you an advice : A horror movie is successful only if the viewer connects with the "heroes" and empathizes with them. This ridiculous movie wanted to be something like SCREAM. However, viewers were rooting for Neve Campbell and Courtney Cox and Arquette etc. They were not praying for their downfall hoping for the Ghostface to get them.
I didn't care about any character here. Dying or surviving, it made no difference for me. Of course, neither the villain was likeable. Having said that, the identity of the villain was another ridiculous thing here. A good twist is when the movie foreshadows it the whole time, in a way. Villain's motive here is brought to the light during the last minutes. How uninspired!
This tried to be a horror comedy. To be honest, i laughed a few times.
