Kathy Bates has had an illustrious and decorated career. With over 100 acting credits to her name, Bates has done just about everything there is to do in the acting world. Now, she’s ready to retire, but not just yet. Bates’ latest role in the remake of Matlock is set to be her last. The script actually came across her desk after she had decided to retire.
Kathy Bates is retiring after ‘Matlock’; she almost retired before the series ever happened
Kathy Bates will appear in Matlock as Madeline Matlock. The series will premiere on CBS in late September. While Kathy Bates is committed to seeing the series through, she’s sure this will be her last role. When the series is over, she’ll officially retire.

According to the late rock & roll historian Bon Scott of AC/DC and his barnstorming Old Testament scripture “Let There Be Rock,” the genre was born around 1955, when Pyotr Tchaikovsky said, “Let there be sound … light … drums … guitar,” all leading up to the revelation, “Let there be rock!” And while he may have gotten the timeline and provenance of rock & roll utterly and completely wrong, Scott captured the genre’s generally accepted origin story perfectly on the 1977 track. Within a few years, though, that definition was already changing, as new-wave...

Sean finally proves he’s just as dumb as he looks, failing to see how ‘Tierra-ble’ Tierra is when she has her dramatic (fake) breakdown.
Tensions were high on the Jan. 28 episode of The Bachelor, as a group date of roller derby took a nasty turn when one of Sean Lowe‘s ladies face planted in a terrible accident. (That or one of the other girls pushed her, I can’t be sure.) Thirty seconds in to the first episode we get our first obligatory shot of Sean topless, and so it began!
Sean & Selma’s Private Date
Sean selected Selma for the first private date, and the other girls did the usual fake “ahhs” when she left to get ready. Sean took her on a private plane, then for a rock-climbing session in the Joshua Tree National Park. It’s never just dinner and a movie on The Bachelor,...

The last time that Azealia Banks was bopping around in black and white, it was in a random Montreal alley, for a little video called “212.” (Maybe you’ve heard of it?) Now, of course, Azealia is a name, with a (long-delayed) record due in February, and so she has the video locations to prove it. In the case of “Luxury,” Banks locked down a fancy Brooklyn roof with a full view of the New York skyline, along with a couple backup dancers who are slightly more trained than that Harry Potter kid. Also: suspenders, because that nineties look is still her thing. While we’re on the subject of highly stylized music videos from ascendant female performers, please go check out A*M*E’s “Play the Game Boy.” It is nuts, in the best way.

The Walking Dead Social Game opened to the public yesterday, but if you haven’t had a chance to try it out yet, we have screenshots from the opening of the game and the first few missions.
As the name implies, this is very much a casual game meant to be played with your friends. If you’re not much of a gamer and would like to throw yourself into the world of The Walking Dead with your friends, this game has a really easy learning curve and ties into the TV series episodes.
For gamers who are looking for more of a challenge, you’ll have to wait for the release of Activision’s first person shooter, where you’ll play as Daryl Dixon before the events of The Walking Dead TV show. Fans of Telltale’s episodic games can also look forward to Episode 3 of The Walking Dead game series later this month.

The world has lost another screen legend this week as Andy Griffith reportedly passed away at his Dare County home earlier today. The man was known to two different generations for separate iconic roles, one throughout the '60s as Sheriff Andy Taylor on his own sitcom The Andy Griffith Show, and then later as the star of Matlock in the late '80s and early '90s. He also had several noteworthy film roles over the years, including the one that launched his career, Elia Kazan's A Face in the Crowd. Griffith was 86 years old. The news comes courtesy of University of North Carolina President Bill Friday, who was a close friend of the actor. It was later confirmed that emergency medical crews responded to Griffith's home this morning. He had undergone quadruple heart-bypass surgery back in 2000 and had struggled with partial paralysis due to Guillain–Barré syndrome in the early '80s.

The sheriff of Mayberry has passed away. Legendary actor Andy Griffith died Tuesday morning at his home in Dare County, N.C. at the age of 86. Griffith had a remarkable life-long television career starting with playing the lovable sheriff on The Andy Griffith Show, which aired from 1960-1968. Of course, the show launched the career of Ron Howard, who played Griffith's son Opie. Howard took to Twitter to pay tribute to Griffith. "His pursuit of excellence and the joy he took in creating served generations & shaped my life. I'm forever grateful. Rip Andy," Howard tweeted.
Griffith found success later in life on the legal drama Matlock, which was on air for 11 years.
In addition to acting, Griffith was a director, producer, and Grammy-award winning Southern-gospel singer. He received a Grammy Award for 1997's "I Love to Tell the Story: 25 Timeless Hymns." Griffith also had a career on Broadway. He earned...

Disney’s upcoming animated arcade game adventure, Wreck-It Ralph, is in the unique position of already looking totally adorable as is and having a premise that lends itself to still more charming marketing ventures. The film features the voice of John C. Reilly as the eponymous Ralph, an arcade game baddie who is sick to death of smashing and crashing things. Ralph “lives” in a game called Fix-It Felix Jr., which should clue you in to who the supposed real star of his entire universe is (hint – it’s Jack McBrayer‘s goody-two-shoes, Felix). When Ralph decides to break out of his game, there are some very unexpected consequences (and, of course, lots of fun and plenty of nods to classic games, as we saw in the film’s first trailer). That said, of course Disney has crafted an actual version of Fix-It Felix Jr. that we can all play from home and of course it’s...

Chicago – I forgot how much I love the new “Mortal Kombat.” It truly is one of the most consistently entertaining fighting games of the last several years. It’s a must-own for fans of the franchise and even those who left it behind years ago should jump back in the cage. And there’s better way to do it than with the newly-released “Mortal Kombat: Komplete Edition.”

Timed to get players excited again before the awesome “Mortal Kombat” comes out for the PlayStation Vita (which I was lucky enough to play with the man who developed it last month) and close the door on the console version of this award-winning game, the “Komplete Edition” includes the characters that were made available as add-on Dlc after the game’s initial release along with a few other bloody bells and whistles.

Catch up with The Darkness if you're playing the game (or even if you're not) and our friends at Merge Games (The Binding of Isaac) want to give you something.
Buy one of the last copies of the Shadows of the Damned Ost before I do
Limited to 1000 copies on its release last year, the soundtrack by longtime Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka is simply fantastic. Blending several different styles with a core flamenco theme (you know, on account of its lead character, Gabriel Hotspur Garcia), and it's just as eclectic and strange as the game, but a far better total package. There are a little under 300 copies left (probably more copies of the Ost than of the under-marketed game currently in circulation), so you should grab one if you're willing to drop the $30 on it.
Here's the ad copy for the release which is on sale at e-tailer Ghm:...

Play the game as Johnny himself, armed with a cannon as you move through familiar landscapes, knocking down obstacles in a Caribbean paradise, candy factory, fantasy wonderland and forest of animal-shaped topiary trees -- you know, the kind you might prune by hand if your fingers were ... scissors.

Chicago – The video game world of “Mortal Kombat” has been reinvigorated for a new generation through Warner’s excellent new release and the company wisely saw the opportunity to provide something for fans who need to put the controller down every once in a while but don’t want to leave the universe with Blu-ray releases for Paul Anderson’s “Mortal Kombat” and John R. Leonetti’s “Mortal Kombat: Annihilation.”
Blu-Ray Rating: 2.5/5.0
1995’s “Mortal Kombat” hasn’t aged particularly well but, then again, it was never that great to begin with. Fighting games, even ones with character backgrounds as potentially rich as Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade, don’t exactly translate to the big screen and the cast of Paul Anderson’s action flick is lackluster at best. No offense meant to Bridgette Wilson or Christopher Lambert, but there’s a reason that “Mortal Kombat” wasn’t exactly a breakout hit.

I don't know about you, but I like to catch a trailer once in a while that really sends into a blank stare. Many of you may feel satisfied in this regard by recent and upcoming theatrical events Sucker Punch and The Beaver, but they both lack the ability to declare "Fresh from their recent critical success - James Franco and Natalie Portman!" And so, here comes Your Highness.
I mean, you knew Danny McBride was going to be in it, but most of the other faces that pop up in the trailer will surprise you.
The film is desperate to proclaim that it is from the Director of Pineapple Express (David Gordon Green), and I think we all let go of a collective sigh of relief here, and say, "Thank God the director of Pineapple Express isn't just resting on his laurels."
Still, I suppose this could be just crazy enough to work.

There's a great flash-based web game making the rounds this week called Famous Objects From Classic Movies. The mechanic is simple: you'll see a minimalist silhouette of an iconic image or prop related to a movie, and in a little hangman-style text box you need to fill in the name of the film. The game isn't wildly difficult, though it throws a few curve balls, like an image of a tiger for The Hangover. Some of those curves are pretty clever, though, especially for truly classic films. I loved the one used for Breathless. Many of you will be able to get through a couple dozen without taking a hit, but it's worth a few minutes just to scan through all the images, and you're bound to be stumped eventually. Play the game here. [1] [via Badass Digest [2]] [1] http://famousobjectsfromclassicmovies.com/play [2] http://www.badassdigest.com/2011/03/02/time-waster-play-the-movie-version-of-hangman...

With record TV ratings last season, the National Football League may be in its best shape ever. So why are the teams' owners about to lock the players out over revenue? It all comes down to greed, says Buzz Bissinger.
It appears more and more likely that the owners of the National Football League will initiate a lockout of its players at midnight this Friday as the result of a highly contentious labor dispute over a new collective-bargaining agreement.
Related story on The Daily Beast: The Education of Luke Russert
The revenue pool in the NFL now is about $9 billion. Owners take $1 billion of that amount off the top as a "credit" for expenses and are seeking roughly an additional $1.4 billion because of today's economic realities. The owners propose that the players receive the same cut of revenue as they do now, 60 percent, but it would be a significantly smaller pot.

The AMC Blog has released two photos for the second episode of "The Walking Dead." The second episode is called "Guts" and in the first photo, character Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) can be seen running from a fenced off area, with a new character - Glenn (Steven Yeun). The photo follows the plotline where a group of survivors are trapped by Rick "unknowingly" (AMC). The second photo is less action packed, but shows character Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies) scanning the woods.
As well, today the AMC made available a new zombie game called: "Atlanta Run." A link to the game is below, but it requires a "Unity Web Player" add-on. Here at 28Dla we encourage innovation, just no more add-ons please. Play the game at your own risk and check out the photo of Lori inside.
The synopsis for Episode 2 - "Guts:"
"Rick unknowingly causes a group of survivors to be trapped by walkers.

Role/Play
Directed by: Rob Williams
Cast: Steve Callahan, Matthew Montgomery
Running Time: 1 hr 25 mins
Rating: Unrated
Release Date: October 8, 2010 (limited)
Plot: A disgraced former soap star meets a divorcing gay-marriage advocate at a Palm Springs resort.
Who’S It For? Gay men who don’t like subtlety.
Expectations: I hadn’t heard anything about this film before it arrived at my house. However, the cover of the film showed two naked men making out … so that’s all I had to go on.
Scorecard (0-10)
Actors:
Steve Callahan as Graham Windsor: Callahan makes a credible soap star, if only his character wasn’t supposed to be a real person as well. He’s not bad looking, but his performance lacks emotion. For someone who’s supposed to be at some sort of crossroads, he just seems bored. Unfortunately, he doesn’t have any chemistry with his costar, Montgomery, either.

With the recent release of Play The Game out in theaters scattered across the nation, I was able to talk to the writer and director of the independent comedy, Mark Fienberg.
Melissa: When it comes to creating David (Paul Campbell), how did you do it? Is there any sort of inspiration you drew from a family member, yourself or somebody?
Fienberg: Well, David as the ladies man was probably the ladies man that I hoped I would be someday, but not necessarily the ladies man I am. You know, all of the dirty tricks that you learn through the movie were deifnitely things that my friends and I developed when I was single. They always seemed to work with them but never worked for me so I didn’t know what I was doing wrong. The character, I think, is more of the guy that I dreamed about being than what I actually was.

“In order to win in the game of love, you have to play the game.”
The catch phrase of the quirky independent feature rings true in Mark Fienberg’s Play The Game. Starring the talents of Andy Griffith, Paul Campbell, Marla Sokoloff, Liz Sheridan and Doris Roberts. This lighthearted comedic tale of finding romance through strategy, no matter what age you are, tries its hardest to branch out to a wide ranged audience. Though the film does have pockets where it falters in its pacing, loosing balance between whether or not the story decides to be a satirical take on the dating game.
The story revolves around David (Paul Campbell) who knows the ultimate list of playing the game in the dating world. With Betty White in The Proposal, there's been a lot of chatter about snarky old ladies. But they're not the only ones who get a little bit of modern fun. Way back in 2007, we learned that Andy Griffith -- The Andy Griffith -- was signing up for a father-and-son-getting-women comedy called Play the Game. Sounds weird enough to be a hoot, right? It's not every day an 81-year-old gets to star in a romcom. But it's a lot more than just romance. A lot. Maybe this will give you a hint, an excerpt from Roger Ebert's review of the film: "I've admired Griffith ever since No Time for Sergeants (1958), but the one thing I must admit I've never wanted to do was regard his face while he's enjoying oral sex from Seinfeld's mom."
Yes, folks -- Griffith gets a Viagra-aided oral sex scene. But we can't just hear about that with eye-scalded words.
