Lionsgate’s genre-spanning 2024 slate of heist comedies, weepy coming-of-age tales, cheeky video game adaptations and horror stories was aiming to fill a void. Most of these were the kinds of movies that major Hollywood studios have either stopped making entirely or largely relegated to streaming services.
And yet, instead of packing seats at multiplexes due to pent-up demand, everything from director Eli Roth’s irreverent console-to-screen adventure “Borderlands” ($32 million globally), the “Crow” reboot ($23.7 million) and historical crime drama “1992” ($2.9 million) to Halle Berry’s post-apocalyptic horror story “Never Let Go” ($16.2 million), Dave Bautista-led action-comedy “The Killer’s Game” ($5.9 million), Francis Ford Coppola’s sci-fi epic “Megalopolis” ($11.2 million) and “Wonder” prequel “White Bird” ($6.8 million) has sputtered at the box office. That’s a string of seven consecutive flops — each with paltry single-digit debuts — in the nine weeks between early August and mid-October.

Dave Bautista just obliterated Trump with a diss targeting one of his biggest fanbases: the manosphere.
Despite the disgraced former president’s laundry list of felony convictions, additional charges, and innumerable policy failures, some misogynists gravitate towards his unapologetic cruelty, viewing it as strength.
It’s time for a reality check.
And Dave Bautista, who is both an actor and a retired professional wrestler, is here to deliver it.

Update: This past week, it was being said by sources close to Ballerina that John Wick director, Chad Stahelski, reshot most of the film without the original director, Len Wiseman. The production is now saying those claims are inaccurate. According to them (who contacted us directly), director Len Wiseman led the additional photography on set in Budapest with producer Chad Stahelski there to help in the creation of action design on the new scenes that would enhance the film and create bigger action sequences. As per usual procedure on films, Ballerina‘s reshoots were not out of the ordinary, and the process had taken place in less than a month.
According to our source, Chad Stahelski’s involvement in building upon key action sequences was important to Wiseman; Stahelski has been an enormous champion of Wiseman from the onset of pre-production and Wiseman is equally appreciative of Stahelski’s support...

While much attention in the box office world has been on the catastrophic launch of Warner’s “Joker: Folie a Deux,” another new release this past weekend, “White Bird,” has deepened a two-month slump in theaters for distributor Lionsgate.
Beginning with the Eli Roth’s panned video game adaptation “Borderlands” in early August, the last six films from Lionsgate released in over 1,000 theaters each have grossed less than $50 million in the U.S. and Canada and have largely been critical busts. The other films include the actioner “The Killer’s Game” starring Dave Bautista, the horror title “Never Let Go” starring Halle Berry, the long-gestating remake of “The Crow” starring Bill Skarsgård and Francis Ford Coppola’s critically polarizing and audience alienating “Megalopolis.”
Lionsgate’s “White Bird,” a sequel to the inspirational film “Wonder” that hit $315 million worldwide for Lionsgate in 2017, opened last weekend in 1,018 theaters and grossed just $1.58 million. By comparison,...

Are you looking for a film you can watch countless times and always find something new to enjoy, as if it’s the first time? Are you searching for a movie that delivers a life-changing message? Number two film of the summer “Deadpool & Wolverine” (Disney), held back from any home viewing until after its tenth weekend in theaters, took the #1 spot on both iTunes (ranking by transactions) and Fandango (by revenue). But perhaps only for a brief stay.
“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” (Warner Bros.), a major hit though not quite in the same league as the Marvel sequel ($235 million U.S./Canada gross so far versus $634 million; both films still in the top 10) will likely replace it when released Tuesday on PVOD after its fifth weekend. That feels a little early (32 days), more so since Tim Burton’s sequel is still #3, with over $10 million.
But if anything, it appears PVOD release boosts theatrical play as of late, at least in the short term. In any event, with the opening weekend debacle of “Joker: Folie à Deux” (revised downward to $37.8 million), it will provide some immediate cash to the Burbank studio.

“Joker: Folie à Deux,” a genre-bending sequel to the billion-dollar comic book smash, hit a sour note at the box office even as it opened to No. 1 with $40 million.
Those discordant domestic ticket sales were behind initial projections of $50 million to $65 million — a range that was already revised down in the subsequent weeks since “Joker 2” landed on pre-release tracking with $70 million. Opening weekend revenues were significantly lower than its predecessor, 2019’s “Joker,” which set an October record with a stellar $96.2 million during the same weekend a half a decade ago.
As for “Folie à Deux,” this start is disastrous for Warner Bros. considering the blockbuster success of the original and the reality that poor word-of-mouth will likely doom its big-screen staying power. That’s a problem because the R-rated sequel carries a substantial $200 million price tag (the first film was produced for a trim $65 million). So, “Folie à Deux...

Imaginary. Borderlands. The Crow. Megalopolis. 2024 has been a colossally bad year for Lionsgate Films. Whether it’s critical ratings or box office take, there’s not a lot to be optimistic about if you’re a fan or shareholder. This is too bad as Lionsgate has always been the studio I’ve always rooted for. As distributors of the Saw, John Wick, and Rambo they’ve always had an edge to them, giving smaller films a chance to reach larger audiences. And franchises like Twilight (purchased from Summit), Divergent, and Hunger Games showed their ability to make/acquire broadly appealing films. Then they’ve even gotten into the Oscar space with releases like La La Land, Knives Out, and Sicario. But it’s getting to the point where I groan every time the Lionsgate logo comes up as it’s no longer a sign of quality or fun.

In 2019, “Joker” became an improbable box office smash and cultural juggernaut.
Sure, the R-rated crime drama was based on the ubiquitous Batman villain. But this take on the Clown Prince of Crime was darker and more disturbing than your average comic book adaptation — more akin to Martin Scorsese’s “Taxi Driver” than the DC anti-hero adventure “The Suicide Squad.”
Directed by Todd Phillips and starring Joaquin Phoenix, “Joker” beat the odds (and controversy over security concerns) to generate $1.07 billion in worldwide ticket sales against a trim $65 million budget. After the Warner Bros. release became one of the most profitable superhero movies in history and earned 11 Oscar nominations, a sequel was all but destined.
Yet the second film, “Joker: Folie à Deux,” which opens in theaters on Friday, may not get the last laugh.

In a move to cut costs, Lionsgate is offering employees in the United States voluntary severance and retirement packages, its CEO wrote in a memo to staff on Monday.
“As we continue to move toward the full separation of the studio and Starz in a challenging operating environment, Lionsgate’s Executive Committee has approved a multifaceted strategic plan to enhance productivity and achieve greater cost efficiencies,” chief Jon Feltheimer said in the email.
A target for the number of staff reductions at the Santa Monica-based company was not disclosed in the note and a rep for the company declined to elaborate on the memo. As of its latest annual report, Lionsgate employed 1,500 staffers worldwide.
The studio, which counts a 20,000-title film and TV library among its assets, has released a series of underperforming titles in the past two months, including Borderlands ($32 million in box office receipts globally), The Crow ($23.5 million...

Dave Bautista ain’t holding back when it comes to his post-mcu career. After hanging up his Drax gear, he’s made it clear there’s one kind of role he’s turning down. The guy who built a career on tough-guy roles is now saying no to anything that keeps him stuck in that mold. Bautista’s been open about wanting to explore more complex and dramatic characters, stepping away from the stereotypical action star.

Lionsgate has been a perhaps unappreciated player in Hollywood over the last 20 years or so. The so-called mini-major studio isn't nearly as big as the likes of Disney or Warner Bros., for example, but it is out there getting it done. From launching franchises like "Saw" and "John Wick" to jump-starting the YA trend of the 2010s with "The Hunger Games," Lionsgate has quietly been the backbone that's made the industry healthier. Heck, it's even taken home media rights that other studios are happy to abandon, which helps keep the DVD/Blu-ray market alive. Unfortunately, things are not going particularly well for Lionsgate at the box office right now, to put it mildly.
The studio has released more than a dozen films in theaters in 2024 and the hits have been modest at best, whereas the flops have been rough. Recently, the comedic action flick "The Killer's Game," which stars Dave Bautista,...

September has been a big month for Terry Crews, who this year marks 25 years in Hollywood, having gotten his start on the American Gladiators-style competition show Battle Dome in 1999. The role of T-Money perfectly aligned with the America’s Got Talent (AGT) host’s dream of one day being an action movie star, a goal which was once again realized with his part in longtime friend Dave Bautista’s action-comedy The Killer’s Game.
Crews stars as assassin Creighton Lovedahl in the J.J. Perry-directed film that released on Sept. 13 — Crews and Perry previously worked together on 2014’s The Expendables 3. Based on the 1997 novel of the same name by Jay Bonansinga, The Killer’s Game centers on a veteran assassin (Bautista) trying to outlive a hit he put out on himself after learning he incorrectly received a terminal diagnosis. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice held onto the top spot of the box-office weekend by a mere $1.0 million to remain the top film for the third consecutive weekend.
In its third weekend of release, Warner Bros.’ Beetlejuice Beetlejuice remained the top film of the box-office weekend, this weekend bringing in $26.0 million for the studio. This gives the film a three-week total of $226.8 million. In second place, Paramount Pictures saw Transformers One debut with $25.0 million mounting a substantial challenge to the dominance of Beetlejuice Beetljuice. This pushed Speak No Evil to third place this weekend where it added $5.9 million to bring its two-week total to $21.5 million for Universal Pictures. Meanwhile, Lionsgate Films saw Never Let Go debut in fourth place with $4.5 million. Warner Bros.’ “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” is set to pull off an upset at the box office by snagging its third No. 1 weekend from an underperforming “Transformers One.”
The Tim Burton sequel is earning an estimated $26 million in its third weekend to bring its domestic total to $226 million, having passed the domestic run of fellow 2024 Warner release “Godzilla x Kong” back on Thursday.
“Transformers One,” meanwhile, is opening to a lower-than-projected $25 million from 3,978 theaters despite strong reviews from critics and audiences. The $75 million animated film from Paramount and Hasbro was projected for a $30 million start, with some independent projections having it matching the $33.7 million opening of Paramount’s summer family film “If.”
“If” legged out to a respectable $111 million domestic theatrical run, and Paramount will be hoping for similar legs for “Transformers One” given its excellent reception, including an A on CinemaScore, 5/5 on PostTrak, and Rotten Tomatoes scores of 89% critics and 98% audience.

Optimus Prime and Megatron put up a fight, but in the end, the robots were no match for everyone’s favorite bio-exorcist.
After an unusually close box office race, “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” emerged victorious over newcomer “Transformers One” to retain the No. 1 spot for three consecutive weekends. The spooky Warner Bros. sequel added a strong $26 million from 4,172 theaters, bringing its tally to $225 million domestically and $329.7 million globally.
Meanwhile, “Transformers One” kicked off behind expectations with $25 million from 3,978 venues. It’s a meager start for Paramount and Hasbro’s animated movie, which cost $75 million and was targeting a start of $30 million to $40 million. It only brought in $14 million internationally for a worldwide total of $39 million. Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry and Scarlett Johansson lead the voice cast of “Transformers One,” the franchise’s first theatrical animated film since 1986’s “The Transformers: The Movie.” That film was a box office disappointment, though its...

“Transformers One” doesn’t seem primed for a breakout start after earning $9.56 million from 3,978 locations across Friday and preview screenings. That puts the animated prequel, co-produced by Paramount Animation and Hasbro Entertainment, on track for a $26.3 million opening weekend in North America, pacing behind industry projections for a $30 million-plus debut.
Those domestic numbers don’t qualify as a definitive nonstarter for the Paramount release, which was produced at a $75 million budget — a smaller price tag than is typical for a studio animated feature, or a live-action “Transformers” entry for that matter. Moreover, this franchise has proven to be more appealing to international audiences, especially in recent years. But it’s difficult to imagine that there weren’t hopes for a bigger opening to put some more space between “Transformers One” and “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” which, in its third weekend, is still a contender to lead the charts.

We're still waiting on Disney to announce Deadpool & Wolverine's home entertainment release (we're hearing October is likely for a Digital launch) and the movie just hit another huge box office benchmark.
With over $622 million domestically, the R-Rated Marvel Studios threequel will pass The Avengers today to become the fifth highest-grossing comic book movie ever.
It will then sit behind Avengers: Infinity War, Black Panther, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Avengers: Endgame at #1.
This is an incredible achievement for Deadpool & Wolverine and proof that last year's talk of "superhero fatigue" was both far too premature and wishful thinking on the part of the genre's biggest detractors.
In other box office news, Deadline reports that the first animated Transformers movie in close to four decades, Transformers One, grossed an impressive $3.36 million during Thursday previews. That's better than Bumblebee's $2.15 million in 2018 but less than the $8.8 million made by Transformers: Rise of the Beasts last year.

“Decolonize yourself. Do your own white supremacy dismantling, and then you can start to bring in other people,” declares Regina Jackson at a Race2Dinner in Atlanta, part of an ongoing series she co-founded with Saira Rao designed to help white women confront their own racism, white supremacy and xenophobia. Before anyone can respond, the waiter proposes a toast, instructing guests to “raise a glass if you’re racist.” They all oblige — although Jackson, who is Black, quickly puts her glass down and laughs. “Oh, I’m not racist,” she says.
The seemingly klutzy caterer has been interrupting the group all night long, dropping dishes and even pulling up a seat to explain that he’s got his Dei (diversity, equity and inclusion) certificate. Many of the guests appear confused and perplexed by his odd behavior. “I’m just on the journey,” he says.

More than a decade ago, “Transformers” was not only the biggest moneymaker for Paramount, but for the entire box office. The live-action/CGI series started by Michael Bay in 2007 grossed $5.2 billion worldwide, with two installments topping $1 billion.
“Transformers One,” which pivots the long-running franchise to animation, won’t make anywhere near that amount. But it doesn’t need to. With a lower production budget than its Bayhem brethren, Paramount is looking for this film to be a more modest success that legs out well into October, refreshes interest in the Autobots, and helps build the studio’s image as a growing player in theatrical animation.
Plus, selling a few million truckloads of toys wouldn’t hurt either.
Last year, the live-action/CGI “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” had a break-even run at the box office. Without the boost from Chinese moviegoers that past “Transformers” installments enjoyed, the film grossed $439.2 million...

Former professional wrestler and rising Hollywood star Dave Bautista saw disappointing results for his latest action movie “The Killer’s Game.” The film earned only $3 million in its opening weekend despite costing $30 million to produce.
Released in September 2024, “The Killer’s Game” tells the story of a hitman who calls out a contract on himself after receiving a terminal cancer diagnosis, only to later learn the diagnosis was wrong. While the movie featured dramatic fight scenes and an emotional love story, critics had mixed responses. Review site Rotten Tomatoes showed 39% approval from professional reviewers but 80% audience rating.
Box office competition also made success difficult. “The Killer’s Game” debuted alongside the very popular horror sequel “Speak No Evil” and fantasy comedy “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” which earned over $100 million in its first weekend. Analysts note that Bautista has found his biggest roles as part of larger groups like in the “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Dune” franchises.

Effortlessly enough, his years of hard work of slamming people down before going on to become a part of a major franchise like the MCU had him becoming a millionaire within little to no time. But before his fame launched him to extraordinary heights of success, there was also a time when Bautista didn’t even have enough food on his plate and spent his nights in a basement.

The Ben 10 cartoon series that started the franchise is a childhood favorite of many who have, although grown up, but never grew out of it. Since 2005, the aeries have kept fans hooked and continue to be an amazing addition to pop culture. While talks of a live-action movie had been ongoing for years, it was recently announced that Warner Bros. has canceled the plan.

For many fans, the news came with a sigh of relief. After all, most of us remember the disaster that was the previous live-action projects. But there is another group, who might be a little bummed about the announcement. Many fans wanted Tom Holland to play the grown-up version of Ben Tennyson, the protagonist of the series. So they were put out about the fact that they wouldn’t get to see Holland with an Omnitrix. But maybe this cancelation is a blessing in disguise,...

Will Optimus Prime and Megatron be able to scare off the Ghost With the Most?
Paramount and Hasbro’s animated “Transformers One,” an origin story about the feuding Autobots and Decepticons, is targeting $30 million to $40 million in its opening weekend. Based on those projections, it’ll easily dethrone the two-time champion, “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.” The spooky Warner Bros. sequel is looking to add roughly $25 million in its third weekend of release. “Beetlejuice 2” has grossed $188 million domestically and $264 million globally to date.

Paramount Animation and Hasbro Entertainment’s Transformers One, the first animated Transformers movie in close to 40 years, looks to liven up the mid-September box office with a domestic start in the low-$30Ms with potential for upside.
Transformers One will keep the domestic box office at its excellent clip. Through the last weekend of April, the domestic B.O. stood at $2.07 billion, 20% behind 2023. Since then, through last weekend, the domestic box office has made an additional $4 billion for a running Ytd cume of $6.08 billion, now 12% behind last year.
Advance ticket sales are solid from Thursday through Saturday, ahead of last year’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem ($28M 3-day) and Trolls Band Together ($30M).
Josh Cooley directed what has been described for months as one of Paramount’s highest-testing animated movies. The $75M production tells the origin story of Optimus Prime and Megatron, who were buddies before becoming sworn enemies.

Ben 10, the super famous cartoon that shaped millions of kids’ childhoods – and continues to do so – has once again dodged a major bullet that could have seriously hindered its reputation: A live-action film. Warner Bros. announced this in the wake of events that seemingly confirmed that the animated projects just weren’t enough for them to derive enough profits and satisfaction.

Well, wasn’t it Aristotle who mused, “Excellence is never an accident”? He probably wasn’t talking about Dave Bautista’s career, but the shoe sure fits the metaphorical wrestling boot here. After hanging up his wrestling tights, Bautista could’ve settled for easy & explosion-laden blockbusters, but instead, he’s chosen a less traveled path, flexed his acting chops, and proved he’s more than just a muscle-bound action star.

In the late ‘80s, The Killer’s Game director J.J. Perry moved to Los Angeles shortly after completing his service in the U.S. Army, and almost immediately, he became fast friends with future John Wick co-mastermind Chad Stahelski. The pair cut their teeth as stuntmen, fight choreographers and stunt coordinators, and when Stahelski and his former partner, David Leitch, transitioned to the director’s chair on John Wick, Perry started to imagine himself in a similar position for the very first time.

Lionsgate has seen a run of bad box office luck: “Borderlands,” “The Crow,” “1992,” and the just-opened “The Killer’s Game” combined have only grossed $30 million among four new films opened in the past six weeks.
“Uglies” continues the recent string of Netflix original movie successes. From director McG, the YA novel adaptation about a society where standardized personal attractiveness is compulsory was an immediate #1 this weekend on the streamer’s top movie list.
In its Sunday spin on first weekend results, Lionsgate often says that, despite weak numbers, the company is in a position to end up making money — and due to financial positioning and post-theatrical platforms.
With “The Crow” debuting on PVOD last Friday, they may have an argument.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice has been blowing up the box office, having already grossed over $264 million less than two weeks after its release. It’s a much-needed win for Warner Bros., which makes it all the more surprising that the studio had originally planned to give the Beetlejuice sequel a streaming release on Max.
It’s been a long road for the Beetlejuice sequel, and according to a New York Times report, Warner Bros. didn’t have a lot of faith that the project would be a success. They still wanted the film but were pushing for it to be released exclusively on the Max streaming service. Director Tim Burton wasn’t a big fan of that idea. “That was never going to work for Tim,” said studio co-chair Pamela Abdy. “You’re talking about visionary artist whose films demand to be seen on a big screen.“

There wasn’t much of a chance that any of the new movies would give Tim Burton and Michael Keaton‘s reunion for “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” a run for the top spot. Read on for the weekend box office report.
Sure enough, “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” was the number-one movie for a second weekend in a row with $51.6 million, down 54% from its opening weekend, bringing its domestic total to $188 million in North America. Overseas, it added another $28.7 million, which helped bring its international total to $76.3 million and worldwide box office to $264.3 million. We’re definitely going to have to wait to see how well this holds up against upcoming movies like “Transformers One.”

“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” (Warner Bros.) had an unexpectedly strong second weekend. With just under $52 million, it fell 54 percent (quite decent from a $111 million start), and a domestic total of $188 million in just 10 days.
Its take made up just over half of the U.S./Canada estimated gross of $95 million. That’s up 50 percent from last year, with year to date totals now 12 percent below last year.
The “Beetlejuice” 36 years-later sequel now looks certain to top the original film’s grosses, adjusted to current ticket prices. “Twisters” (Universal), released earlier this summer, was a similar legacy project, though with a different cast. As big as it was ($266 million domestic so far), that’s about half of the adjusted total for the 1996 original.
“Beetlejuice,” however, is faring similarly to “Twisters” overseas. With the film open around most of the world, its foreign take so far is only $76 million, a smaller gross compared to domestic.

The weekend box office numbers have begun rolling in, and it looks like Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice held up much better than anyone (except us) expected in week two. According to Deadline, the popular sequel grossed $51.6 million this weekend, which is the second-best sophomore weekend for a fall movie since It back in 2017. Notably, the film only dipped 54% this weekend, a strong hold for a movie that opened north of $100 million.
With a $188 million domestic total, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice seems certain to end its domestic run with a $250 million-plus final gross. It is another winner for Warner Bros, who are having a good year. Wonka, Dune: Part Two, and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire were all major worldwide hits, with only their underrated Furiosa and Horizon: Chapter 1 box office misfires for them this year. Tim Burton and Warner Bros.’ Beetlejuice Beetlejuice lost none of its ghostly mojo in its second weekend and easily stayed atop the box office chart with an estimated $51.6 million as it hurtles toward the $200 million mark domestically.
The pic, playing in 4,575 theaters domestically, fell just 54 percent for a 10-day domestic total of $188 million. Overseas, the sequel took in another $28.7 million from 76 markets for a lukewarm foreign tally of $76.3 million and $264.3 million globally.
Blumhouse and Universal’s new horror-thriller Speak No Evil was also good news for the early fall box office. The pic opened in second place with an estimated $11.5 million from 3,375 locations against a budget of just $15 million before marketing. The movie follows an American family as they spend the weekend at a plush British estate only to discover that their host, played by James McAvoy, has a rather sinister side. McAvoy is earning strong marks for his performance.

Three new movies were no match for the Ghost With the Most as “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” loomed large over domestic box office charts again.
Tim Burton’s spooky sequel added a stellar $51.6 million in its second weekend of release, bringing its tally to $188 million in North America and $264 million globally. “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” hasn’t resonated as strongly at the international box office, where the Warner Bros. film has earned $76.3 million to date.
In terms of newcomers, “Speak No Evil,” Universal and Blumhouse’s remake of the 2022 Danish horror film, opened in second place with $11.5 million from 3,375 venues. Provocateur comedian Matt Walsh’s satire documentary “Am I Racist?” landed in fourth place with a decent $4.75 million from 1,517 theaters. The film, released by conservative pundit Ben Shapiro’s The Daily Wire, landed the top debut in 2024 for a doc. Meanwhile, Lionsgate’s “The Killer’s Game” with Dave Bautista failed to connect, debuting at No.

While the initial wave of nostalgia has subsided, Warner Bros.’ “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” is holding on well in its second weekend with an industry estimated $52 million, just a 53% drop from its $111 million opening.
The Tim Burton sequel is set to have a running domestic total of $188 million by Sunday’s end. Another $8 million would give the film a higher domestic total after inflation adjustment than the first “Beetlejuice” back in 1988. The film is also set to be the third Warner release this year to cross $200 million in domestic grosses, joining “Dune: Part Two” and “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.” But the film is heavily driven by domestic audiences, as North America carried 79% of the film’s total box office heading into the weekend.

It’s still the ghost with the most money at the box office this weekend, with “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” retaining the top slot on domestic charts in its second weekend. Universal’s horror play “Speak No Evil” is putting up a modest but solid performance as runner-up though, with $4.9 million from 3,375 locations across Friday and preview screenings.
That puts it on the higher side of tracking for a $10 million to $13 million opening, which the James McAvoy vehicle had drawn before the weekend. It’s a strong start for the Blumhouse Productions thriller, especially on a typically lean budget of $15 million. Reviews have been strong for the James Watkins-directed remake, which nearly functions as a scene-for-scene (to a point) recreation of the breakthrough Danish thriller of the same name from two years ago. Public sentiment is good, too, with audience survey firm Cinema Score determining a B+ grade — a pretty positive aggregate for a horror movie,...

Tim Burton’s hit sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, is on track for a pretty massive second weekend. While some expected the film to suffer a large drop-off in its second weekend, that seems not to be the case, with Deadline reporting that it should make about $50 million. That’s exactly what we predicted a few days ago, and to note it’s also the biggest second weekend for a fall movie since It back in 2017.
Indeed, word of mouth seems good for this sequel (which we only had to wait thirty-six years for), and it’s making so much money that I wonder if Tim Burton’s going to stick to his claim that this is his last Beetlejuice movie. Even if it is, hopefully, he and Michael Keaton will re-team at some point, as clearly, these guys bring out something very special in each other.

Armed with charisma and charm, wrestling superstar-turned-actor Dave Bautista takes aim at moviegoers’ emotions as a lethal loner in need of love. In the 2022 action comedy The Killer’s Game, Bautista plays Joe Flood, an elite assassin based in Budapest who finds his cold-blooded lifestyle thawed by a captivating dance.
Joe’s latest contract goes awry when he rescues ballet performer Maizie from the ensuing chaos, sparking an unexpected romance. But continuing their affair grows complicated after Joe’s doctor diagnoses him with a terminal illness. Believing himself on death’s door, Joe hatches a plan to provide for Maizie financially after arranging for his own assassination.
Of course, as with any hitman plot, nothing goes quite according to plan. Joe’s medical prognosis dramatically reverses just as the hired guns close in. Though he tries calling off the contract, the vindictive broker doubles down on the bounty. With an army...

Plot: A veteran assassin is diagnosed with a life-threatening illness and authorizes a kill on himself. After ordering the kill, an army of former colleagues pounce and a new piece of information comes to light. Insanity ensues.
Review: There’s a certain type of film that has been relegated to streaming services in recent years. Sadly, mid-tier action films sprinkled with comedy stopped being considered worthwhile theatrical investments. Thus, those movies our grandparents would claim as “that great movie you need to see” were left to be discovered on Netflix and Max. But something strange is happening with Lionsgate this year and they felt a theatrical release was justified for The Killer’s Game. At first, I was intrigued because Bautista is known for picking interesting roles and the quality must be great to warrant such a release. Instead, I was met with a generic action film that switches gears so...
