Luther “Uncle Luke” Campbell is getting as docuseries as he wanna be. Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders is among the producers behind “Coach Luke,” which chronicles the one-time 2 Live Crew frontman as he became a entrepreneur and the head coach of the Edison Senior High School football team in Miami. Mandon Lovett directs the docuseries, which is exec produced by Smac Entertainment’s Constance Schwartz-Morini, Michael Strahan and FredAnthony Smith; Swirl Films’ Eric Tomosunas and Nikki Byles; and Brian Sher and Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders. No outlet is yet attached.
Campbell, of course, is remembered for the popular late 1980s/early 1990s rap group 2 Live Crew — which managed to even hit the Billboard charts with song titles that Casey Kasem wouldn’t say out loud on his top 40 countdown. But 2 Live Crew’s lasting impact was its First Amendment fights, via Campbell and the group’s obscenity trials and Supreme Court parody cases.

August isn't especially famous for its great movies. As months go, the eighth one on the calendar has often been a bit of a wasteland for Hollywood, as blockbusters peter off, kids have a lot less free time and money, and studio executives need to find somewhere to dump their proverbial dead bodies.
If you want a good example, you can pretty much throw a dart at any year after "Jaws" popularized the concept of summer blockbuster season. For example, let's take a look at 1993. 30 years ago, August was a month for dreck comedies like "Son of the Pink Panther," family film misfires like "Father Hood" and "Surf Ninjas," and the weird-ass "Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday."
But then again, there are exceptions to every rule. There were also a few excellent motion pictures in August 1993. The increasingly timeless classic "The Fugitive" came out that month, along with...

Los Angeles, California (X17online) - Snoop Dogg is about to transition from rap star to family sitcom star. According to Deadline, NBC has picked up a family comedy project that stars Snoop Dogg as father. Snoop is also on board as producer, and Don Reo – who was behind sitcoms Blossom and Everybody Hates Chris – will write. The rapper last starred on TV in his E! reality show Snoop Dogg’s Father Hood.

The family comedy project starring Snoop Dogg has landed at NBC with a script commitment. Sitcom veteran Don Reo is writing the sitcom that has the rapper/entrepreneur/marijuana activist playing the father. The project was originally set up at Warner Bros TV last month. Reo will executive produce, with Snoop Dogg and Ted Chung serving as producers. Snoop Dogg has played a father figure on TV before, on his E! reality series Snoop Dogg’s Father Hood, which chronicled his family life with his wife and three kids. Snoop Dogg previously worked with Reo on the Fox sitcom Brothers, which Reo created and on which Snoop Dogg did a guest arc. The musician has been focusing on acting recently and was recently cast in the title role in the biopic The Legend Of Fillmore Slim. My Wife And Kids co-creator Reo most recently worked on the Wbtv-produced comedy Two And A Half Men.

I think this qualifies as a Daily Shock because the last thing one would expect rapper Snoop Dogg to do is to be involved in a family show. According to Deadline, Snoop Dogg is in talks to star in and produce a multi-camera family sitcom. Snoop Dogg has partnered with sitcom vet Don Reo (“My Wife and Kids”) for the project and the project has been set up at Warner Bros. TV. The project is currently be shopped around to various networks. Snoop Dogg was involved with a familial show when he had his E! reality series “Snoop Dogg’s Father Hood,” which showed Snoop Dogg as a husband and father...

Snoop Dogg the actor is just all over the place these days! First we hear that he's playing the lead in the biopic The Legend of Fillmore Slim, and now it looks like he's developing a family sitcom with "sitcom veteran" Don Reo in which he would play the father of some no-doubt-wacky household. That's pretty much all we know so far, but I want to share with you one oddly backhanded bit of the announcement from Deadline: The project has been set up at Warner Bros TV and is yet to be taken out to the networks. Snoop Dogg has played a similar role on TV before, on his E! reality series Snoop Dogg’s Father Hood, which chronicled his family life with his wife and his three kids. Um, I guess he's "played" the role of a father before, [...]...

When a musician dies, sales of their albums experience an immediate “death bump.” If the bump proves especially lucrative, then the necromancers are called in to coax new music out of the dear departed from beyond the grave. Remix albums, greatest hits collections, basement tapes, random conversations filtered through auto-tune and set to Swedish beats: There are always new ways to make money off dead musicians.
Right now, Patrick Swayze is experiencing something like a “death bump.” Swayze died of pancreatic cancer almost exactly two years ago, but in just the last month, three of his most iconic projects have been rejuvenated.

Right there, you already know that “Die in a Gunfight” will feature two cool things — people dying, and gunfights. Those two are must-haves in an action movie, or as director Anthony Mandler calls the film, “a ‘Fight Club,’ ‘Romeo and Juliet’–esque, dystopian, another world [type of story]“. Oh yes. Add a dash of dystopia in there, too. You can never have too much dystopia in your in your movies about dying and gunfights. Mandler is talking about the movie “Die in a Gunfight”, which he’s signed on to direct sometime in the Fall. Right now, he tells MTV they’re currently doing rewrites, and Zac Efron will star. Mandler, who is making his directorial debut on the film (he previously directed an episode of something called “Snoop Dogg’s Father Hood”), then goes on to praise his “High School Musical Star”, even though, you know, they have shot a single frame or anything.

Snoop Dogg has revealed that he is hoping to launch a new TV show, which will try to find the hottest singers and rappers from “the hood” and allow them to showcase their talent.
The rapper has claimed that he turned down the chance to judge on Fox’s new talent show The X Factor, because he wants to appear in a programme that looks for potential stars from deprived areas.
He said: “The ‘American Idol’ and ‘X Factor’ shows, they’re great shows. But I think I need to make a show like that, that’s directed straight to the hood. To the artists that don’t get the attention, that don’t have the money to make themselves representable. This raw talent and ability.

Call it the dueling Vlad the Impaler wasn’t really all that bad of a guy projects. You’ve got Plan B (that’s Brad Pitt’s shingle) and Summit Entertainment’s action-adventure take on the character in “Vlad”, and then you got Alex Proyas’ own re-imagining of the infamous fella called “Dracula Zero”. Personally, being a huge Proyas fan, I’m looking forward to see what Proyas can do with the legend. But I have to admit, a more action-adventure take on Vlad would be interesting, too. Summit and Plan B’s “Vlad” has hired on horror movie remake guy Scott Kosar (“The Texas Chainsaw Massacre”, “The Crazies”, and “Amityville Horror” remakes, as well as “The Machinist”) to work on Charlie Hunnam’s script. “Vlad” will be directed by music video vet Anthony Mandler, whose only directing credit is an episode of “Snoop Dogg’s Father Hood”.

Following a long and very public battle with cancer, Patrick Swayze — a film and television star and dance icon — died Monday (September 14). He was 57 years old.
Diagnosed with pancreatic cancer early last year, the news shocked fans who had long followed the career of Swayze, a muscular heartthrob most famous for playing a virile dance instructor in "Dirty Dancing" and a no-nonsense tough guy in films like "Road House" and "Point Break." As the tabloid headlines of his imminent demise intensified, he launched a new crime show called "The Beast," even though the noticeably thinner star admitted that shooting was difficult on him physically.
Born in Houston, Swayze's mother was a dance instructor, and he followed in her footsteps while pursuing classical ballet. He also poured his evolving, formidable...

Patrick Swayze, who soared to stardom as a heartthrob dancer in "Dirty Dancing" and ascended to romantic icon status as a deceased lover in "Ghost," died Monday after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 57.
"Patrick Swayze passed away peacefully today with family at his side after facing the challenges of his illness for the last 20 months," said a statement released Monday evening by his publicist Annett Wolf.
The actor had kept working despite the diagnosis, putting together a memoir with his wife and shooting "The Beast," an A&E drama series for which he had already made the pilot. It drew a respectable 1.3 million viewers when the 13 episodes ran last winter, but A&E said it had reluctantly decided not to renew it for a second season.

Reality TV has hit the hood. Father Hood. It’s amazing that I haven’t gotten used to the cockamamie ideas for new reality shows that hit the likes of MTV or Bravo. After years of new shows popping up on the entertainment radar, it’s a wonder any shows surprise us. Either you want to be a model, you want to be the best animal groomer in all the land or you’re a celebrity with a semi-interesting family.
Who is Calvin Broudus? Calvin is a loving husband. Calvin is a devoted father. But, Calvin on his own probably doesn’t make for a very interest television show. Now throw in a little hip and a little hop. What do you get? Reality TV. Calvin “Snoop Dogg” Broudus may not have been the subject of a reality show ten years ago…but the Snoop of today is a daddy three times over.
