It seems obligatory in many of these movies that the two leads have an antagonistic start. That's fine, but not when it shows a basic personality in one of them which is an instant turn off. Ted keeps the bad vibe going longer than I expected, but then the really bad aspects disappear.
One of the subplots is a dating web site, so there are also the usual dumb bad first dates. Are these funny? I prefer puns and bad jokes. But I did kind of like the hijacked date. It's interesting how the writers turn what looks like a good date into bad for reasons that shows some of Ted's subtle finer points.
I loved the whole consolation prize discussion. Both make good points even if I tend to agree strongly with one of them. And then the writers tie it in to the bigger picture.
The story has a lot of the usual formula things in it, but it doesn't matter. Cristine Prosperi and Dale Moss have really good chemistry and the movie allows them to spend a lot of screen time capitalizing on it.
The conflict comes a little early.
This movie surprised me. Although it had a lot of formula in it, and I didn't recognize any of the actors, it won me over in the areas I like.
