Han Kang(II)

Han Kang is a South Korean novelist and poet. She was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature 2024 "for her intense poetic prose that confronts historical traumas and exposes the fragility of human life". She became internationally renowned for her novel The Vegetarian, about an older woman who renounces the consumption of meat, after which she believes she is transforming into a plant. It was first published in South Korea in 2007 and translated into English in 2015. It won the prestigious Booker International Prize in 2016. Han published her first literary work, a set of five poems, in 1993. She has won several prizes in her native South Korea, including the Yi Sang Literary Award in 2005. Her father, Han Seung-won, is also an acclaimed author.
