Meaghan Oppenheimer is a Hollywood showrunner with a husband, an infant, three stepkids and a dynastic family polo ranch on the outskirts of Tulsa, Okla. Despite these dignified badges of adulthood, she can still tell you the last time she cried at a bar over a boy.
“It was here, 10 years ago,” Oppenheimer says, taking in the musk of Barney’s Beanery in West Hollywood. The beloved local chain of dive bars has been usurped in recent years by Gen Z, looking for cheap well drinks and a staff that won’t call the cops if seven people are vaping under a table. “But I haven’t cried in bars since I got married.”
Thankfully, her memory is long. It’s what powers her sensational Hulu series “Tell Me Lies,” a sexually charged drama about college kids who play the devastating, consequential mind games of “Dangerous Liaisons” atop sheets by Bed Bath & Beyond.

Note: This story contains spoilers from “Tell Me Lies” Season 2 finale.
“Tell Me Lies” has come full circle, with its Season 2 finale seeing Lucy (Grace Van Patten) and Stephen (Jackson White) back together, and definitely not better than ever.
After Stephen declared his love for Lucy at the end of Episode 7, the finale picks up after the exes hooked up, leaving Lucy in a place so low all she can think to do is reach back out to Leo (Thomas Doherty) and make a plea for them to reconcile. Leo takes her back — and simultaneously Stephen breaks up with Diana (Alicia Crowder) — but their reconnection ends abruptly when Stephen throws his and Lucy’s hookup just hours before in Leo’s face, which arouses out an anger in Leo to beat Stephen bloody.
Left at a standstill, Lucy is pushed back into Stephen’s orbit when, after Drew’s sudden death in the finale,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Tell Me Lies Season 2 finale “Don’t Struggle Like That, Or I Will Only Love You More.”] Tell Me Lies viewers finally found out what happened to Drew (Benjamin Wadsworth) in the Season 2 finale, and our worst fears came true. Drew returned to Baird to check on Wrigley (Spencer House), who’d been struggling with depression. Drew had been avoiding Wrigley’s calls after being kicked out of school last year. Lucy (Grace Van Patten) wrote a letter to the school — to save Stephen (Jackson White) — claiming Drew was responsible for the car crash that killed Macy (Lily McInerny). The brothers reconnected and spent the night drinking at a local bar. When Wrigley popped one of his painkillers, he offered one to Drew, who decided to split the painkillers in half throughout the night. Drew and Wrigley didn’t realize they were time release capsules, so the combination of drinking...

Spoiler Alert: This post contains spoilers from the Season 2 finale of “Tell Me Lies,” now streaming on Hulu.
Season 2 of “Tell Me Lies” came crashing to an end — in both the 2008 and the 2015 timelines. In an attempt to sum up everything that happened: Stephen (Jackson White) and Diana (Alicia Crowder) broke up — an idea she made him think was his doing, but she’d been planning all along to get him away. There was no sadness at all for Stephen, who immediately slept with Lucy (Grace Van Patten). Right after that hookup, Lucy went back to Leo (Thomas Doherty) and slept with him — without even changing her underwear. That tidbit came in hand for Stephen later when he brought up what she was wearing to prove to Leo they’d hooked up hours before and led to Leo punching him repeatedly until his face was unrecognizable.

After watching Jackson White’s Stephen torment Grace Van Patten’s Lucy all throughout the second season of “Tell Me Lies,” Stephen switches up his behavior at the end of Episode 7 in what White calls a “desperate” decision.
Reckoning with whether he’s a good person or not, Stephen turns his attention from Diana (Alicia Crowder) back to Lucy as he arrives at her dorm room and asks her candidly if she knew he was a bad person while they were dating — which she replies “yes” — and if, even still, she loved him then, which she also replies “yes.” He then confesses that he, too, despite knowing the worst things about Lucy, still loves her and makes a proposition for the pair to be together.
“It’s very desperate and guttural,” White told TheWrap of Stephen’s decision to go back to Lucy.

Note: This story contains spoilers from “Tell Me Lies” Season 2 Episode 6.
As “Tell Me Lies” hinges closer to its Season 2 finale, Episode 6 sees an explosive confrontation that star Grace Van Patten identifies as a “turning point” for Lucy — and Stephen.
With tensions already high during a snowed-in Thanksgiving, Stephen (Jackson White) tries his hardest to interrupt the carefree romance between Lucy (Van Patten) and Leo (Thomas Doherty), and eventually hits one of Lucy’s buttons when Stephen reveals Leo’s ex-girlfriend cheated on him with Stephen. Lucy lashes out at Stephen — and Diana (Alicia Crowder) via a drunken slap — which hits a switch for Leo.
Overwhelmed by the situation, Leo tells Lucy the dynamic reminds him of his strained childhood and breaks up with Lucy. Feeling ashamed of herself, Lucy doesn’t fight for their relationship, with Van Patten saying her character “knows she’s not capable of … reciprocating love.

[This story contains spoilers from episode four of Tell Me Lies season two, “Just Stable Children.”]
Sonia Mena and Alicia Crowder’s Tell Me Lies characters, Pippa and Diana, have already brought one of the biggest shockers of the season. And it’s only four episodes in.
After viewers saw the flash-forward at the end of the season two premiere of the Meaghan Oppenheimer-created Hulu series — which teased a romantic relationship between the pair in the 2015 timeline — many have likely been wondering how the two former classmates got there. Especially since they’re not that close in college, and Diana is still very wrapped up with Stephen (Jackson White) and his drama with Lucy (Grace Van Patten) in 2008.
But now, after the fourth episode, viewers might start to see a shift in the dynamic after Diana finds the photos of Macy on Stephen’s computer, which only confirms what Lucy told her regarding his involvement in Macy...

Regarding the characters in Tell Me Lies, the writers are unafraid to put these drama-prone kids through the wringer.

Something big happened between Lydia (Natalee Linez) and Lucy (Grace Van Patten) in Tell Me Lies (which is now releasing episodes weekly), and it is now the big elephant in the room.
The two of them were best friends in college, which is when a good chunk of Tell Me Lies Season 1 and Season 2 takes place. However, seven years later, in the present timeline, Lydia and Lucy are no longer that close.
To make matters worse, Lydia is engaged to Stephen, Lucy’s big love interest. That is certainly not a situation good friends end up in.

After captivating viewers with its steamy romances and unthinkable betrayals, “Tell Me Lies” is pumping up the volume as it traces the “ripple effects” of Season 1’s dramatics into a “faster paced” second installment, according to showrunner Meaghan Oppenheimer.
“After Episode 1, there isn’t really a moment to catch your breath,” Oppenheimer told TheWrap of Season 2 of the Hulu hit series. “It’s one surprise, one betrayal, one shock moment after another, in a way that I think will be really fun for people, and also really infuriating. I think people are going to be probably pretty angry again [at the decisions of some of the characters].”

When Tell Me Lies debuted in the fall of 2022, no one was sure how it would do. The Hulu series, about a toxic relationship between two students at a fictional college, was the first project to come out of Emma Roberts’ adaptation-focused first-look deal at the streamer and featured a cast of relatively unknown — at the time — actors. But then, very quickly, star Grace Van Patten began to notice something strange; when she walked around Los Angeles with Jackson White (who plays the other half of the aforementioned toxic relationship), girls were rolling down their car windows or stopping them on the sidewalk to scream at her to get away from White, as if the world of the show were real.
“It felt like we were on a reality show,” Van Patten says. “It was cool that people were so invested in these characters — but also a little scary because...
