Gaanth Chapter 1: Jamnaa Paar on Jio Cinema, directed by Kanishk Varma, is based on the infamous Burari deaths, where 11 family members died under mysterious circumstances. But the show leaves us hanging without a clear answer. Was it a mass suicide? Some bizarre cult ritual? Or a mass murder? The series doesn’t really settle on a conclusion, which can be pretty confusing and makes the thriller aspect fall flat. Instead of diving deep into the mystery of the deaths, the series shifts its focus to the personal lives and struggles of those involved in the investigation. We follow Inspector Gadar Singh (played by Manav Vij), Dr. Shakshi Murmu (Monika Panwar), and Si Satyawati Mittal (Saloni Batra) as they face their own challenges while trying to solve the case. Unfortunately, some scenes feel repetitive and unnecessary, which ultimately slows down the pace. There’s also a Netflix documentary series called...

Bollywood actor Arbaaz Khan, who turned producer with Salman Khan-starrer ‘Dabangg’, has roped in ace actress Raveena Tandon for his next production ‘Patna Shukla’ which is a social drama.
He reveals: “It’s a social drama but since we as a production house believe in entertaining our audience, the film was written like that. ‘Patna Shukla’ has all the ingredients that an Indian audience wants to watch.”
Khan, who is known for his negative roles in films like ‘Daraar’ and ‘Qayamat: City Under Threat’ was also seen in movies such as ‘Shootout at Lokhandwala’, ‘Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya’ and many more.
While talking about the film he says that audiences will see Raveena in a completely distinct look: “Wait to see Raveena in a never seen before avatar. Even when she was at the peak of her career while doing hardcore masala movies, Raveena never turned her back on meaningful cinema.

Director Advait Chandan is too literal in his adaptation of the 90s classic but finds a warmth and political honesty the original lacks
Bollywood megastar Aamir Khan’s “Hanks-ish likability” is tested to the limit by his new project with his Secret Superstar director Advait Chandan: a Hindi remake of Forrest Gump, late 20th-century Hollywood’s pre-eminent Rorschach blot. Sending Gump eastwards opens new channels of history and culture with screenwriter Atul Kulkarni swapping in golgappa for chocolate boxes. Yet the source has largely been swallowed whole: the CG feather, the sappy score, the picaresque storytelling and parkbench philosophy, the running with and without callipers. Assiduously replicating its predecessor’s strengths and weaknesses, the one thing it risks is that a three-word summary – Hindi Forrest Gump – would tell you all you ever needed to know about it.
Tweaks of emphasis do become apparent. Unloading his frankly exhausting life story onto Chandigarh’s unluckiest commuters,...

A short way into “Laal Singh Chaddha,” the Indian adaptation of “Forrest Gump” from Aamir Khan Productions and Viacom18 Studios, the film shows its true colors. After an opening sequence that follows a CGI feather — just like the one in Robert Zemeckis’ 1994 film — we meet our hero Laal (Aamir Khan), an amiable Sikh man who boards a train with small red box in hand. As Laal begins chatting with an uninterested seatmate, audiences will likely be tempted to take in the “Forrest Gump” of it all, ready for him to crack open a classic Indian mithai box and offer sweets to his fellow passengers.
The box, it turns out, is full of gol gappe. Not sandesh or barfi or soan papdi or any other sweet, but the crisp rounds of hollow bread that Indians crack open and fill with peas, potatoes, seasoning, and delicious, spicy water that looks like it came straight from the gutter.

Based on their mostly unfortunate track record, with a few commendable exceptions, it seems almost justifiably instinctual to decry any company’s intent to pursue English-language remakes of celebrated titles in other tongues and from other geographical settings.
But when the opposite phenomenon occurs, and a filmmaker abroad takes on a new version of a Hollywood property, the resulting effort can turn out just as disappointing.
Enter “Laal Singh Chaddha,” the Indian reimagining of Robert Zemeckis’ “Forrest Gump,” a financially successful and Oscar-winning drama that has lost its luster in the years since it was released in 1994, the more its blatantly questionable tropes are reexamined.

Samrat Prithviraj
Starring Akshay Kumar, Manushi Chhillar ,Sanjay Dutt, Sonu Sood, Manav Vij, Ashutosh Rana Sakshi Tanwar
Written & Directed Chandraprakash Dwivedi
By the time Akshay Kumar dressed as one of Hindu India’s most valiant warriors and statesman, gallops into the frame to whisk the woman of his dreams off her feet from her swayamvar, we already know that this film means business.
Too much of it, actually. It is so inured in the rites of authentic storytelling that it loses track of the one thing that such a film must essentially posses: a soul.
Writer-director Dwivedi has the historical data from the 12th Century in place. But the film wears a doleful dull look almost all through its lengthy running-time. Even the colours in the Holi song look dull. Maybe they are Nature-friendly colours.
Since the film bestows so many lavish compliments on Prithviraj, why not make him the pioneer of eco-friendliness as well?...

"Some people don't believe, but miracles do happen." Paramount has revealed the official US trailer for an Indian film titled Laal Singh Chaddha, which is really an official remake of Forrest Gump set in India instead. Apparently this has been in the works for along time - they spent ten years adapting the script, then another ten years purchasing the remake rights, finally securing them in 2018. Laal Singh Chaddha has been filmed in more than 100 Indian locations. The plot is similar - events in India's history unfold through the perspective of Laal Singh Chaddha, a dim-witted man, as played by famous actor / filmmaker Aamir Khan. The film's cast also includes Kareena Kapoor, Naga Chaitanya, Mona Singh, Manav Vij, and Aaryaa Sharma. This actually looks amazing?! I'm serious! Bollywood is really rocking right now and this is a seemingly impressive that looks as endearing as the original. I want to see this.

Stree was smart stuff, Roohi seems like random fare. The comparison had to crop up, the only reason the producers seem to have made Roohi is because they struck gold with Stree. Blending horror with humour looked so easy in Stree. Clearly it isn't, you realise watching Roohi.
It doesn't take you long to understand why Roohi slips, despite having a core idea that could have been moulded into a winner. The film lacks imaginative storytelling. Stree, scripted by Raj and Dk, struck a fine balance crafting the dicey sub-genre of horror comedy, at the same time delivering a societal comment without getting preachy about it.
In contrast, Roohi writers Mrighdeep Singh Lamba (he wrote and directed the Fukrey films) and Gautam Mehra struggle from early on. The few good jokes are sporadic,...

Roohi movie review is here. The Hindi language horror comedy film directed by Hardik Mehta is produced by Dinesh Vijan and Mrighdeep Singh Lamba under the banner Maddock Films in association with Jio Studios. Roohi stars Rajkummar Rao, Janhvi Kapoor and Varun Sharma in main leads. Roohi is hitting the screens on 11 March 2021.
Roohi movie review
Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock is back with another horror after the amazing Stree (2018). As per the Maddock’s horror tradition, Roohi is a delightful horror comedy that has a surprisingly unique meta layer.
Set somewhere in Uttar Pradesh two buddies Bhawra (Rajkummar Rao) and Kattanni (Varun Sharma) are part of the groom kidnapping (Pakaruah shaadi / Jabaria shaadi) gang led by Guniya Shakeel (Manav Vij). One day they get the assignment to kidnap Roohi (Janhvi Kapoor). Circumstances forced Bhawra and Kattanni to keep Roohi at a safe place amidst the jungle for a few days.

Laal Kaptaan
Starring Saif Ali Khan,Manav Vij, Zoya Hussain, Deepak Dobriyal
Directed by Navdeep Singh
Laal Kaptaan is an extraordinary film, powerful brutal visceral and very very tragic. The enormity of its grief is felt in the palpable treatment of the theme of patricide and other family crimes common to Mughal history. The blood-soaked script takes a swipe at the cruelty of history but converts some of the barbarism into a state of perdition and atonement that do not add up to a climactic catharsis. No such closure in this film, thank you.

Actor Manav Vij, who plays a pivotal role in the upcoming movie "Laal Kaptaan", says the entire cast of the film has undergone voice modulation training for their characters.
"My role required me to learn horse-riding and sword fighting and that needed a lot of practice. We also underwent voice modulation for our characters. The way I speak will be very different from how I speak off the camera or in other films. 'Laal Kaptaan' has been one of my greatest journeys," Manav said.
His look from the film is also out. In the official poster, Manav is seen sitting astride a horse with a rifle in his hand.
Sharing more details about the shoot, he added: "It has been a surreal experience working and prepping for Laal Kaptaan. So many mixed emotions. It has been unique, adventurous and a bit hard all at the same time as we shot...

Andhadhun
Starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Radhika Apte, Tabu
Directed by Sriram Raghavan
Take a deep breath. Now, brace yourself for an experience that simultaneously defies and defines all the rules of the suspense genre.
The last time director Sriram Raghavan took us on similarly clenched suspenseful rollercoaster ride in Ek Haseena Thi the moral compass was far less askew. Here in Andhadhun every character barring Radhika Apte’s, is prone to bouts of shrill moral discrepancy that leaves us stunned.
Now where did that come from! I found myself asking this question at least a dozen times as I sat frozen in my seat resigned to the frenzied flurry of fate and serendipity that guides this utterly unpredictable tale of unhampered hankerings and unstoppable calamities.
But hang on. How do I review this film without giving away the plot? Andhadhun is a spoiler’s paradise. There are so many twists in...

Lucknow Central
Starring Farhan Akhtar, Gippy Grewal, Diana Penty, Deepak Dobriyal, Rajesh Sharma, Inamulhaq
Directed by Ranjit Tiwari
Rating: **** ½ (4 and a half stars)
“You don’t get justice in the world, you only get good luck or bad luck,” a wise old librarian (pronounced ‘lee-bray-nian’ by his Lucknowi singer-son) quotes Orson Welles.
Our good luck, then, that we get a prison drama as taut and thrilling, relevant and resonant as Lucknow Central right in the middle of the year when things are looking bloody bleak in Bollywood.
Yes, there is hope. Lucknow Central is by far the most engaging thinking-man’s thriller of the year. Ballsy and brave, it penetrates the politics of prison life without relinquishing the right to engage us in a solid storytelling spree where a clever cat-and-mouse game is played out between a sadistic jailor (Ronit Roy, in top form) and a non-guilty prisoner (Farhan Akhtar...

Starring Kirti Kulhari,Tota Roy Choudhary, Neil Nitin Mukesh
Directed by Madhur Bhandarkar
Maybe it’s too early here to mention Kirti Kulhari’s indomitable brilliance in this grossly mis-reviewed film. But then, considering she has given what is arguably the most outstanding performance by a female protagonist since Tabu in Chandni Bar and has even gone further than Tabu in some sequences, this is as good a time as any to bring up her climactic court scene where she tells the spellbound judge (he wears the same expression that I did) how her life changed one day when she took the wrong turn and ended up watching the ravages caused by the Congress regime at Turkman Gate.
When Kirti speaks of serendipity her character Indu (I will ignore the cheap thrills of ambiguity afforded by her full name) doesn’t know what that words means. It is that innocence...
