Fresh off playing Herman Munster in Rob Zombie’s The Munsters, Jeff Daniel Phillips is back with the upcoming Cursed in Baja, which has been picked up for release this week.
Variety reports that Anchor Bay Entertainment has acquired Cursed in Baja ahead of the movie’s world premiere at FrightFest Film Festival in London on August 23.
In addition to starring, Jeff Daniel Phillips also wrote and directed the film.

Barbara Crampton (Suitable Flesh) and Jose Conejo Martin (The Tax Collector) also star.
“We’re thrilled to bring Jeff and his vision into the Anchor Bay family,” Anchor Bay’s Thomas Zambeck says. “’Cursed in Baja’ is an intense journey into madness, destined to take its place among the genre-bending classics that have come to define indie film.

We're returning to 1313 Mockingbird Lane yet again for a new television version of The Munsters, this time planned as a "darker reimagining" of the series.
Horror icon James Wan is producing a new series for Universal Studio Group (Usg) alongside showrunner Lindsey Anderson Beer (Pet Sematary: Bloodlines) and Ingrid Bisu. Wan's company, Atomic Monster, will produce this latest iteration alongside Lab Brew. The original 1964 sitcom initially aired on CBS for 70 episodes from 1964 to 1966.
According to Variety, the logline for this new version of The Munsters describes it as a horror show that "lives and breathes within the Universal Monsterverse." Between this, the recent success of Abigail (which was based on Dracula's Daughter), and the upcoming Wolf Man from Leigh Whannell, it seems like Universal is intent on making their "Dark Universe" work, even if it doesn't end up being interconnected like the MCU.

Love him or hate him, Rob Zombie has become one of the prominent and unique voices in the modern horror landscape. His style is immediately recognizable, his choices in aesthetics, casting, and music practically codified. I say this not to criticize Zombie; he’s one of my favorite current filmmakers, and I like or love nearly every single one of his movies.
With two of his films celebrating an anniversary this year – Lords of Salem turns 10, House of 1000 Corpses turns 20 – it seemed like the right time to revisit his filmmaking career so far.
Today we’re ranking Rob Zombie’s entire live action filmography to date…
8. 31 (2016)
If I’m being totally honest, this is the one movie on the list I’m not entirely crazy about because, after the relative box office disappointment of Zombie’s experimentation with The Lords of Salem, it feels like he retreated artistically back...

Neca previews the two action figures…

It's genuinely surprising that the peculiar Transylvanian family residing at 1313 Mockingbird Lane was never updated for modern audiences until 2022. "The Munsters" TV show ran on CBS for only two seasons in the mid-1960s and then sat dormant for decades until Rob Zombie finally revived the series, transforming it into a Technicolor feature film that eventually landed on Netflix. The final product served as more of a prequel to the TV series that focused on the bizarre courtship between Herman (Jeff Daniel Phillips) and Lily (Sheri Moon Zombie) before settling down with Lily's grandfather The Count, their son Eddie and their niece Marilyn.
Regardless of whether you're a fan of the 2022 film or not, (/Film's review wasn't exactly kind), Zombie felt like the perfect choice to direct. "The Munsters" was a dream project for the musician and filmmaker who had long been obsessed with the original series and subsequent TV...

Last year, skate legend Tony Hawk acquired a skateboard that was hand-painted in 1985 by late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, who adorned the deck with the artwork from the Iron Maiden album Killers.
Hawk then went through the process of authenticating the “unicorn” skateboard — a Sims Jeff Phillips model — working with the deck’s prior owner Cameron Ross and Birdhouse Skateboard’s Derek Richardson to properly understand the origins of the deck.
As Ross explained in a new video posted to Hawk’s social pages, when he was in junior high school, he gave Cobain $20 and a “chunk of weed” to paint the Iron Maiden artwork on the skate deck. Kurt’s sister Kim also appears in the new video clip.
With that taken care of, Hawk and Birdhouse have just released replicas of the deck, as well as prints and stickers of the design, with proceeds going toward raising awareness...

Tony Hawk is planning to celebrate Kurt Cobain’s birthday on Monday, who would have turned 56.
In an Instagram post, Hawk wrote that he bought Cobain’s 1985 skateboard at an auction last year. An avid painter — sometimes of classic rock imagery — the deck is decorated with Cobain’s painting of Iron Maiden. It’s an original Jeff Phillips model, a skateboarder who died by suicide in 1993, three months before Cobain ended his life.

Jeff Daniel Phillips as Herman and Sheri Moon Zombie as Lily in The Munsters
A reworking of a classic series which achieves something surprisingly similar in tone, The Munsters is not what most people would expect from a Rob Zombie production. It’s whimsical, it’s family friendly, and it’s really very sweet. A large part of that is down to Zombie regular Jeff Daniel Phillips, who plays the newly created Herman Munster, a monster just getting his bearings in the world when he meets Sheri Moon Zombie’s Lily, who will become the love of his life. Like a big screen sitcom with wild colours and a loud rock soundtrack, the film is definitely a niche work, but will delight many longstanding fans. When I meet Jeff, he tells me that he numbers amongst them.
“I was a huge fan growing up, definitely. And everybody else was also.

When Rob Zombie first announced his interest in adapting classic sitcom The Munsters, star Jeff Daniel Phillips told me, fans of the series were nervous. They expected what most of us do from a Zombie film – a gorefest with a cynical take on life and lots of gratuitous violence, starring the director’s wife. This is a very different piece of work from the cult director, however, and only the latter of those things applies. It’s surprisingly close to the spirit of the original, but with an added layer of meta-humour which, though often playing with irony, somehow also manages to be full of heart.
Sheri Moon Zombie plays Lily (of course), whilst Phillips is Herman, freshly made from not-so-fresh parts and just starting out in the world. As the film opens, with Lily’s father The Count rising from his coffin and putting his back out, Lily is on a date.

This year, we have a plentiful amount of iconic movie monsters who should have all known terribly better, from Michael Myers’ bloody ending to Leatherface’s latest massacre. We’ve got everything from Creepers feasting on human flesh to dinosaurs feasting on…well, the exact same thing. If a fire starting little girl doesn’t spook the life out of you, perhaps’ Robert Zemeckis’ dead eyed wooden boy will send shivers down your spine. And on top of all of that, we’ve got to deal with Covid over in The Bubble and the end of the world as Roland Emmerich (once again) knows it in Moonfall.

While Violent Night is lighting the box office on fire, there’s another film featuring a Santa with a bit of bloodlust: Christmas Bloody Christmas. Thankfully this Santa is much less friendly and a lot more homicidal. I was fortunate enough to talk with the writer/director, Joe Begos, and pick his brain on this wonderful little title. He talks about how it started as a Silent Night, Deadly Night remake, only to evolve into a killer robot Santa film. This is probably my favorite conversation yet, so don’t miss it!
Christmas Bloody Christmas synopsis: It’s Christmas Eve and Tori just wants to get drunk and party, but when a robotic Santa Clause at a nearby toy store goes haywire and begins a rampant killing spree through her small town, she’s forced into a battle for survival.

I’ve been a fan of writer/director Joe Begos’ work ever since I saw his first feature, Almost Human, back in 2104 at Frightfest. My love of his work was cemented by The Mind’s Eye, Bliss and Vfw. One thing his films are known for are the various influences that 80s cinema has had on his work – from The Mind’s Eye being inspired by Scanners; Bliss feeling like the brethren of Near Dark by way of To Live or Die in LA… Begos’ films tend to take on different cinematic horror tropes, whilst harkening back to the 80s, in both style and substance.

There isn’t much left of 2022, but one of my most highly anticipated movies coming in what’s left of this year is writer/director Joe Begos‘s holiday horror film Christmas Bloody Christmas – which got an 8/10 review from our own JimmyO that you can read Here. Now a trailer for Christmas Bloody Christmas has arrived online to give us a preview of what this film will have in store for us when it reaches theatres and the Shudder streaming service on December 9th. Check it out in the embed above!
Christmas Bloody Christmas has the following synopsis:
It’s Christmas Eve and fiery record store owner Tori Tooms just wants to get drunk and party, until the robotic Santa Claus at a nearby toy store goes haywire and makes her night more than a little complicated. "Ho ho ho!!" Rlje Films + Shudder have revealed an official trailer for a hilariously crazy, brutally violent new holiday horror film titled Christmas Bloody Christmas. While there have been other animatronics-come-alive horror films this year already (see Spirit Halloween and The Curse of Bridge Hollow) this one looks like the best. It's the latest film from director Joe Begos, known for his gritty indie features Bliss and Vfw previously. It's Christmas Eve and Tori just wants to get drunk and finally party, but when a robotic Santa Clause at a nearby toy store goes haywire and begins a rampant killing spree through her small town, she's forced into a battle for survival. The film stars Riley Dandy, Sam Delich, Jonah Ray Rodrigues, Dora Madison, Jeremy Gardner, Jeff Daniel Phillips, & Abraham Benrubi. Uh looks awesome?!?! Wtf! What an incredible trailer - great choice of music and footage. He has laser eyes?...

It's the most wonderful time of the year. I'm talking about Beyond Fest: probably one of the best (if not the best) genre film festivals in Los Angeles. Every year they seem to top themselves with the screenings they hold. This year, they had an incredible Rrr screening in IMAX at the Tcl Chinese Theatre and a William Shatner triple feature with Shatner himself in attendance. But today, I'll be talking about a movie that will be your new favorite Christmas killer robotic Santa movie. I'm talking about the new Joe Begos joint, Christmas Bloody Christmas.
I was lucky enough to attend the world premiere at the Hollywood Legion Theater filled with Christmas cheer, Santa hats from everyone, and a killer robot Santa photo op. So, without further ado, let me tell you what this movie is all about: "...it’s Christmas Eve and fiery record store owner Tori Tooms...

Plot: It’s Christmas Eve, and Tori and Robbie just want to party and get drunk. Unfortunately, a robotic Santa with evil intentions may ruin their plans.
Review: Recently, I went to the World Premiere screening of Christmas Bloody Christmas at this year’s Beyond Fest. Intending to review this flick, I decided to go in completely blind. Indeed, the title gives a little warning, but the lively introduction of writer/director Joe Begos grabbed my attention. Whatever this holiday offering had, it was going to be rambunctious. And now, I’m happy to say that the wild and wooly, fast-paced fright fest is perhaps one of the best St. Nick inspired horror features in recent years. Bloody, with practical effects, and many F-bombs to offend those who don’t like cursing. And I cannot wait to talk about the rockstar performances of Sam Delich and especially Riley Dandy.

Starting in fall 1964, children across America could watch CBS’ The Munsters but come January 1966, they seemingly all flipped the dial to ABC and Batman. The superhero series’ smash ratings cast a death spell on the humorous take on the classic monsters, with the exaggerated look as perfected by Universal’s horror films of the 1930s. Fred Gwynne was a delight as Herman Munster, paired nicely with Yvonne DeCarlo and Al Lewis. The sitcom transferred traditional family drama tropes to the residents of 1313 Mockingbird Lane and for 70 episodes, it was tremendous fun, revived for wildly successful syndication.
Ever since, there have been revivals in feature films, animated series, and failed attempts at series revivals. Now, here comes director Rob Zombie with his take on the classic characters, largely retaining the look of the original series, but in garish color.

It was hard to picture how Rob Zombie’s film adaptation of The Munsters might play. Would it be, say, a profanity-laden ’70s period piece where Grandpa Munster was a pedophile? Instead we get the heavy-metal horror auteur’s first “kid-friendly movie”––though that is to acknowledge virtually no child would probably be into the longueurs of this oddball exercise.
With no relationship to the original sitcom, I was able to gather that it took on the nuclear family of the ’50s and ’60s, and one imagines the easy subtextual route for a modern adaptation would’ve been the destruction of this so-called unit in the chaotic 21st century. With the tipoff that the childless couple has no little Eddie Munster in this iteration, this is a wholly personal use of IP that almost comes off like Zombie re-telling the story of him and his wife Sheri falling in love...

Say what you will about Rob Zombie, but you can’t pretend he isn’t consistent. As a musician, a stage performer and a filmmaker, Zombie has made a lucrative and (mostly) artistically intriguing career out of his boundless affection for schlock. Whether it’s ultraviolent horror movies, low-budget luchador adventures or goofy monster sitcoms, his love of B-movie media always jumps out at the audience. And at his best, he convinces us to love his weird obsessions too. At his worst… well, we’ll get to that.
Honorable Mention: “Grindhouse”: “Werewolf Women of the SS” (2007)
Rob Zombie’s fake trailer from the 2007 double-feature “Grindhouse” stands out, but not necessarily in a good way. His teaser is a rather obvious riff on exploitation sleaze like “Ilsa, She-Wolf of the SS,” but making her an actual wolf, with tasteless Nazi imagery and an also tasteless cameo from Nicolas Cage as the racist caricature Fu Manchu.

Rob Zombie‘s The Munsters is now available on Blu-ray, VOD, and Netflix, a new spin on the classic television series that gives the characters and silly scenarios a fresh coat of paint. Zombie’s all-new movie is actually a prequel to the black & white television series, charting the early days of Herman and Lily’s courtship, from Transylvania to 1313 Mockingbird Lane.

As a horror filmmaker, Rob Zombie has fostered an impassioned following over the past two decades, with a body of work characterized by its black humor and unvarnished violence, made all the more engrossing by the perverse but productive sympathies the director has for his movie monsters. Now, Zombie has completed his most shocking venture yet — an adaptation of the wacky, wholesome ‘60s sitcom “The Munsters.” With friendly faces and a very conspicuous PG rating, the film is unlike anything Zombie has made before and arguably his most boldly stylized work yet.
“A lot of people have said to me: ‘Finally, I can watch one of your movies with my kids,’ which I don’t have kids so that’s kind of meaningless to me. But that’s nice!” Zombie tells Variety. “This is how I got into everything as a kid. This is for the next wave of monster fans coming our way.

Whether it rises above its abysmal first look, "The Munsters" at least feels born out of sincerity. Director Rob Zombie ("The Devil's Rejects") is quite possibly the biggest "Munsters" fan. Even his song "Dragula" is based on the outlandish family vehicle, so despite the violent idiosyncrasies of his earlier work, Zombie oddly feels like the right person to both pay tribute to the '60s sitcom, while making it feel fresh for another generation.
While the "House of 1000 Corpses" filmmaker is the headliner, "The Munsters" features a pretty awesome cast with Jeff Daniel Phillips, Sheri Moon Zombie, Daniel Roebuck, Jorge Garcia, RIchard Brake, and Cassandra Peterson, most of whom are Zombie alumni in some way or another. Of everyone involved, however, Phillips has one of the most difficult shoes to fill.

Rob Zombie's "The Munsters" hits home video and streaming today, and it's a loving ode to the widely beloved original 1960s series. Gone are the buckets of blood that accompany some of the director's other work, but his usual flair and attention to detail remain. It's a prequel to the campy classic we know and love, set before the titular Munsters were a happy monstrous family. Starring Zombie staples Jeff Daniel Phillips as Herman Munster, Sheri Moon Zombie as Lily Munster, and Daniel Roebuck as The Count/Grandpa Munster, it's a loving and colorful engagement with the classic franchise.
For fans of "The Munsters," there's a lot of fun to be had here, while Rob Zombie fans will find both differences from his extensive film canon with some stylistic commonalities that make it feel like a proper Zombie affair. I spoke with actor Daniel Roebuck about the film, the original series,...

If you couldn't tell from the hit single "Dragula" from his 1998 debut album "Hellbilly Deluxe," Rob Zombie has been a fan of "The Munsters" for a very long time. So when the opportunity arose for the cult horror filmmaker and musician to revive the beloved 1960s sitcom, it's no surprise that he jumped at the chance. However, a number of false starts kept the project in limbo on several occasions, so the anticipation kept building and building for Zombie's vision.
With the film finally being released today, is it possible for the long-awaited PG-rated adaptation from the director who brought us "House of 1000 Corpses" and "Lords of Salem" to live up to the hype? We'll find out soon enough, but that question ultimately didn't weigh heavy on the shoulders Jeff Daniels Phillips, who is literally and figuratively stepping into the very large shoes of the Transylvanian-American patriarch Herman Munster.

In a real blast from the past, the '60s sitcom about a family made up of vampires, werewolves, and a Frankenstein's Monster gets a modern update in director Rob Zombie's adaptation of "The Munsters." While not nearly as popular as its macabre counterpart in "The Addams Family," the charm emanating from the CBS series has developed a cult following of its own in the five-plus decades since it went off the air.
Seeing as how much "The Munsters" has affected its director -- especially since his most famous song, "Dragula," is itself a reference to the infamous family vehicle -- Zombie appears to be the perfect fit to helm the project. The film is even structured as a prequel about how Herman (Jeff Daniel Phillips) and Lily (Sheri Moon Zombie) fell in love. I suppose the next generation must have their "Viva Rock Vegas."

"The Munsters" is a major departure for Rob Zombie. Ever since the industrial metal musician launched his filmmaking career, he has specialized in transgressive horror. His first movie, "House of 1,000 Corpses," was deemed so extreme that Universal Pictures shelved it. His subsequent films have been varying degrees of messed-the-f-up.
While no one was surprised that Zombie would be drawn to a Munsters movie, it felt awfully out-of-character for him to fully embrace the show's corny, family-friendly tone. But his love for the 1313 Mockingbird Lane brood is pure, to the extent that he relocated to Budapest, Hungary, in the middle of a pandemic, to make the film on his own terms. In doing so, Zombie had to separate from his usual U.S. crew. For actor Jeff Daniel Phillips, who'd made four previous movies with the director before getting tapped to play Herman Munster, these circumstances made this outing a brand-new Zombie experience.

"The Munsters" is one of those old-school '60s sitcoms that couch potatoes of a certain age watched and rewatched throughout their formative years. We absorbed these shows' quirks and themes and catchphrases so completely that the merest of references can trigger a flood of childhood memories. They weren't the acme of broadcast art, but they filled our afternoons with machine-manufactured laughs, and we loved them for it.
So when a studio goes chasing nostalgia bucks by transferring a popular TV show to the big screen, they're best off playing it safe and emulating the vibe of the original. Barry Sonnenfeld's "The Addams Family" movies did this to perfection, and were handsomely rewarded at the box office. On the other hand, Blumhouse's "Fantasy Island" transformed the celebrities-of-the-week formula that made the ABC series a cheesy guilty pleasure into a charmless horror flick, and audiences loathed it.

Rock musician and horror director Rob Zombie has been trying to get a movie adaptation of "The Munsters" made for 20 years. Known for his edgy, intense, and graphic films, many were shocked to learn that the film would be a departure from his usual fare, and instead serve as a faithful homage to the 1960s TV series. The result is a family-friendly horror comedy blasted with color, cartoon sound-effects, and a palpable passion dripping from every punchline. Serving as a prequel to the events of the TV series, Rob Zombie's take on "The Munsters" also sees many of his frequent collaborators stepping into the celebrated roles that came before.
Jeff Daniel Phillips is one of Zombie's go-to guys, having appeared in his films "Halloween II," "The Lords of Salem," "31," and "3 From Hell." Due to tall height, Phillips has been cast plenty of times to play villains and monsters, like appearing...
