Exclusive: Back in the summer of 1995, you were either team Oasis or team Blur. There was no sitting on the fence as the rival Brit bands clashed over which group’s single would top the charts — Blur’s Country House or the Oasis number Roll With It.
A new play heading to London’s West End in 2025 will chart the harshness of the animosity between the two enormously popular so-called Britpop bands, a rivalry so bitter that it burst into the headlines, even the TV news covered it.
News of the show, appropriately titled The Battle by humorist and writer John Niven, a former indie rocker and one-time A&r man, comes as Gallagher brothers Liam and Noel have buried their own feud to launch a huge Oasis tour in 2025 after 15 years apart.

The enduring friendship between members of the group Blur is on full display in this moving and beautifully executed rock documentary from director Toby L (Liam Gallagher: Knebworth 22).
Blur: To The End, follows lead singer Damon Albarn, bassist Alex James, guitarist Graham Coxon and drummer Dave Rowntree as they make a surprise return with their first record in 8 years, the critically acclaimed number 1 album The Ballad of Darren. The film follows the band as they get ready to play two historic Wembley stadium gigs in July 2023.
“We were never big enough to play Wembley before” utters Albarn, perhaps not completely seriously, from his studio in the Devon countryside. Hinting at his newly single status after the end of his twenty-five year relationship, Albarn is unravelling in more ways than one. His knees are giving up, and his demeanour isn’t quite as spritely as it once was, but this...

Best known for era-defining ’90s hits including ‘Parklife’, ‘Girls & Boys’ and ‘Country House’, Blur escaped the Britpop ghetto to become sophisticated indie rockers while maintaining their large, devoted fanbase. With blur: To The End, director Toby L offers an intimate, revealing portrait of the quartet now.
In early 2023, frontman Damon Albarn invites his bandmates to a Devon recording studio to make The Ballad Of Darren, their first album in eight years. He almost crashes his car — a morbidly funny scene given Albarn had just been ruminating on death. This sets the tone, with more laugh-out-loud moments of gallows humour to follow. Before a Colchester Arts Centre gig undertaken as a warm-up for two huge Wembley Stadium shows, Albarn and self-deprecating guitarist Graham Coxon return to The Stanway School, which they attended as children and now has a classroom named for them. The headmaster is dumbstruck when Albarn profanely explains why...

Blur have announced a new documentary titled Blur: To the End, which centers around their 2023 reunion. Watch the trailer below.
The clip offers a glimpse into behind-the-scenes footage of the band reconnecting to record their comeback album, The Ballad of Darren, and preparing for their reunion tour. “I’m just concerned that we do it as honestly as humanly possible for people like us,” Damon Albarn says.
According to the official description, the film “follows the unique relationship of four friends — and bandmates of three decades — Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon, Alex James, and Dave Rowntree as they came together in early 2023 to record new songs ahead of their sold-out, first ever shows at London’s Wembley Stadium in July last summer.”
For now, To the End is only slated for release in UK and Irish cinemas beginning on July 19th, but the band has promised details of an international theatrical release are “coming soon.

The actor, musician and troublemaker known for everything from Trainspotting to Fat Les opens himself up to your interrogations
Keith Allen: where to begin? You might know him as the guy who moves into the flat in Shallow Grave and then dies of a drug overdose, leaving a suitcase full of money and three flatmates on the prowl. Or as the dealer in Trainspotting who buys £16,000 worth of heroin from Renton and the gang. More recently he appeared as the dad in Eddie the Eagle and as the baddy in Agent Cody Banks 2: Destination London opposite Frankie Muniz, as well as in Kingsman: The Golden Circle and Rise of the Footsoldier: Origins.
Maybe you caught Allen as a beardy Scrooge in Mark Gatiss’ stage 2023 adaptation of A Christmas Carol. He’s been in The Young Ones, Spaced and Doctor Who. He co-wrote and appeared in the video for...

Blur have shared a pair of bonus tracks from their comeback album, The Ballad of Darren, titled “The Rabbi” and “The Swan.” The songs appear on the deluxe edition of their first LP in eight years, which arrived just a few days ago.
Whereas “The Rabbi” speaks of being lost and wonders about “tomorrow’s heroes,” “The Swan” is more personal. On the latter track, Damon Albarn sings about always being there for someone even after a relationship is over with lyrics like, “Do you miss me now I’ve gone?/ Know that I will always be here/ Even though I have to let you go.” Stream both songs below.
Albarn spoke with Consequence about the making of The Ballad of Darren for our latest cover story. He called the project “the first legit [Blur] album since [1999’s] 13” due to the collaboration with guitarist Graham Coxon, bassist Alex James, and drummer Dave Rowntree...

Blur are officially back with The Ballad of Darren, their first album in eight years. Listen to the complete project below via Apple Music and Spotify.
Featuring singles “St. Charles Square” and “The Narcissist” — the latter of which we named Song of the Week — The Ballad of Darren was produced by James Ford. In a statement, Damon Albarn described it as “an aftershock record, reflection and comment on where we find ourselves now.”
Albarn spoke more extensively about the project in our recent cover story on Blur. The LP marked the band’s most collaborative project in years, with bassist Alex James and guitarist Graham Coxon insisting on working out its 10 songs with Albarn. As a result, the singer called The Ballad of Darren “the first legit [Blur] album since [1999’s] 13.”
In his review of the album for Consequence, Associate Editor Paolo Ragusa called The Ballad of Darren an “enjoyable, heartfelt, and contemplative record.

Damon Albarn has characterized Blur’s The Ballad of Darren as “an aftershock record, a reflection and comment on where we find ourselves now.” Indeed, the group’s ninth album embodies just that. At its core, it mourns the heartaches, perils of fame, and drug use that the band has grappled with throughout their illustrious 32-year career.
It would be easy, then, for Albarn and company to succumb to creating another typical Blur album that dwells in the past without pushing their music forward in any meaningful way. If not for Alex James’s enchanting basslines, Albarn’s incessant lyrical vulnerability, or the dreamlike orchestration embedded within these songs, it very well could have been just that. Regardless, the album affirms that Blur isn’t ready to get comfortable quite yet.

On “The Narcissist,” Blur’s first new song in eight years, Damon Albarn sings about looking in the mirror and seeing a Pierrot (a commedia dell’arte clown) looking back at him as he attempts to rebuild his ego. “If you see darkness look away,” he sings at one point, before the upbeat chorus kicks in: “I’m going to shine a light in your eyes/You will probably shine it back on me/But I won’t fall this time.” The track is the first taste of the band’s upcoming album,...

The 1975 have some things to say about 1995, as well. “Get back together, stop messing around,” singer Matty Healy advised Oasis in a recent Canadian radio interview. “Can you imagine being in potentially – right now, still – the coolest band in the world, and not doing it because you’re in a mard with your brother?” he argued. “Grow up, headline Glastonbury, have a good time.”

Blur’s guitarist Graham Coxon has opened up about his worries during the height of the band’s success.
Coxon said he struggled to deal with fame, and the attention from some of the band’s more obsessive fans, whom he described as“unhinged”.
“You get unhinged people. People who are obsessive,” said the 53-year-old in an interview with The Idler.
Coxon explained that some intrusive attention had led to him worry constantly and suffer from insomnia.
“Until it happens to you, you don’t quite realise just what a nightmare that is,” he said.
“Months and months of not sleeping. Worrying every day, every hour of the day. It was awful,” he added.
Some superfans even made efforts to have engagements with Coxon’s girlfriends during the 1990s, he recalled.
“You’d be on tour and your girlfriend would have all these suitors, trying to get with your girlfriend.

Blur reunited for the first time in nearly four years for a surprise gig in East London Friday during Damon Albarn’s annual Africa Express concert. Blur last performed together in November 2015 following the release of The Magic Whip.
For the performance, Albarn rejoined his band mates Dave Rowntree, Alex James and Graham Coxon to play “Song 2,” “Tender” and “Clover Over Dover”; the latter performance marked the live debut of the Parklife track. For “Tender,” the band was joined by London Community Gospel Choir and Rokia Traoré.

In a year that's already seen BBQ Champ, Flockstars and (sort of) Youth Hostelling with Chris Eubank, there's now another contender for most Partridge-esque reality show.
Watch has commissioned Battlechefs, which follows celebrities competing in a cruise ship kitchen to impress Marco Pierre White.
12 bizarre TV shows that weren't invented by Alan Partridge - honest
Ten amateur celebrity chefs - including Blur's Alex James, Keith Duffy from Boyzone and EastEnders' John Partridge - will take on the challenge.
They will take it in turns to command the kitchen, cooking for the ship's captain and VIP guests.
There will be two separate cruises, with five stars competing on each, and the show will also explore the locations at which the ships stop, particularly the food and cooking techniques they offer.
UKTV Commissioning Editor and Executive Producer Victoria Summer said: "Travel, food and competition come together in Battlechefs. It's an...

We met the actor and comedian Bill Bailey (the same person), to talk about his role as Baloo in a new Jungle Book audio production…
Bill Bailey has had a soft spot in geek hearts since time immemorial (aka the 1990s), with roles in Spaced, Black Books and Doctor Who complimenting his uncountable appearances on Never Mind The Buzzcocks and other assorted panel shows. Of course, the man can put on a hell of a show by himself, as well.
Now, Bill Bailey has signed up for the role of Baloo in Audible’s new audio production of The Jungle Book: The Mowgli Stories. We met up with Bill Bailey at Audible’s recording studios to discuss The Jungle Book, the chances of him cameo-ing in Star Trek Beyond, and a whole lot more besides…

Last night's Tfi Friday special brought back Chris Evans and reminded us of everything we forgot about the '90s.
Chris put together a true TV spectacle with star guests galore (Jeremy Clarkson! Tom Daley! Lewis Hamilton! Even Shaun Ryder!) But what did the critics think?
Here's how Twitter reacted to Chris Evans's bonkers revival of Tfi Friday
What did you think of the return of Tfi Friday?
The Telegraph (Neil McCormick)
"It was, for the most part, zany, anarchic fun, fizzing with ideas and conducted at a frenetic pace, but the one-off return of the Nineties didn't so much evoke nostalgia for the decade as a sense of wonder at how we ever kept up the pace. Blur and Oasis (well, what's left of them) made appearances, but sparks didn't fly...

It's all over bar the shouting now, as the heavily-hyped return of Tfi Friday finally hit screens tonight (June 12).
Chris Evans put together a true spectacle, jam-packed with Liam Gallagher and Blur returning as the kings of Britpop, Shaun Ryder trying to keep his mouth shut and Jeremy Clarkson bickering with Evans over the Top Gear succession.
10 classic Tfi Friday moments, from Shaun Ryder swearing to Freak or Unique
Twitter had a feeding frenzy with tonight's Tfi Friday revival, so we round up reaction below:
1. An event 15 years in the making
Been up since 3.07 a.m. Sleep vastly over rated
Cut To 10 O'Clock News:"Tonight on C4 a ginger man slept all the way through his own show"

The return of Tfi Friday tonight (June 11) after a 15-year hiatus was a monumental event for children of the 1990s.
Chris Evans certainly pulled out all of the stops for the entertainment show's return, including poking fun at Jeremy Clarkson's controversial departure from Top Gear.
10 classic Tfi Friday moments, from Shaun Ryder swearing to Freak or Unique
Of course, there were stars galore on hand as Amanda Seyfried, Nick Grimshaw and Tom Daley lent a hand in the jam-packed 90-minute special.
And if all of that wasn't enough, Evans was joined by music superstars such as The Who's Roger Daltrey, Rudimental, Blur, Liam Gallagher, Years & Years and potty-mouth Shaun Ryder.
Now that all of the fun's over for the time being, should Tfi Friday continue with a full series or is it best to leave it in the past?

Nobody’s buying many albums these days, certainly not like they were in the late ’90s and early aughts during Blur’s commercial peak. But for Damon Albarn, front man of the British quartet, there’s at least one tangible benefit to having a new record, The Magic Whip, his band’s first in 12 years: “Now we don’t have to play the songs that I can’t sing anymore because they’re too high,” he says, smiling just enough to reveal a gold front tooth. Albarn, 47, is slouched onto a chair in the courtyard of Tribeca’s Greenwich Hotel next to guitarist Graham Coxon, 46, who’s vaping away behind a pair of Ray-Bans. They, along with bassist Alex James, 46, and drummer Dave Rowntree, 51, are in town to play The Tonight Show and a surprise concert at the Music Hall of Williamsburg, and with a dozen new songs in their repertoire,...

Lacey Turner makes a bizarre admission about her dog on tomorrow's episode of Sweat the Small Stuff.
The EastEnders star is made to feel at home by host Nick Grimshaw, who transforms himself into Dot Cotton and creates the 'Queen Nick'.
The familiar setting presumably makes Turner feel comfortable enough to open up, as she admits that she's a clean freak who takes her obsession to such heights that she hoovers her dog.
"He loves it!" she says. "He's a Labrador and they moult like whatever... I hoover him every time I get the hoover out, so like ten times a day. He's so clean."
Elsewhere in the show, Alex James - famous for being in Blur and making cheese - opens up about his disgusting nose blowing habits, which he admits repulse his wife.
"I've got a real thing about blowing my nose on towels," he says. "Yeah,...

Blur's Alex James will host a new BBC Two series based around the best bits of hit panel show Never Mind the Buzzcocks.
What a Load of Buzzcocks, which will air in late spring, will look back at pop history over the last 16 years and revisit key years and events through classic Buzzcocks episodes and clips.
Buzzcocks was originally hosted by Mark Lamarr and featured Phil Jupitus and Sean Hughes as team captains.
Simon Amstell took over from Lamarr as host, before the show adopted a rotating guest host policy, while other team captains over the 16 years have included Bill Bailey and Noel Fielding.
"I've always been a big fan of the show and I'm looking forward to seeing some of the highlights from the past 16 years," said James.

Chicago – Racing games typically come in two flavors: Simulation and Arcade. On the Arcade side you have the excellent “Burnout Paradise,” “Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit,” “Blur,” and about a dozen more games that focus on the speed and excitement of driving a car as fast as possible, and don’t really bother too much with things like braking systems, cornering, or legality. Many open world games also subscribe to this model for their driving. On the simulation side, you got games like “Forza Motorsport,” “Project Gotham Racing”, and the “Gran Turismo” series.
Video Game Rating: 3.5/5.0
As someone who’s happily owned *both* “Burnout Paradise” and “Forza Motorsport 4,” I can say with some authority that hands down “Burnout Paradise” is the more fun game. On the flip side, “Forza Motorsport” is a far more robust offering, and ultimately proves more rewarding in the long run because it challenges you in ways “Burnout Paradise” does not.

When the PlayStation 2 launched, there were only a couple of must-have titles, the most extreme of which was a brand-new snowboarding franchise from EA called Ssx. Fast gameplay and over-the-top everything set this game apart from the pack as a true demonstration of what the new system could do. Not surprisingly, the game was very well received and saw multiple sequels which refined the series with new ideas each time, the most recent of which landed on the Wii, using motion controls. While the less that's said about Blur the better, Ssx had not ventured in the world of high definition until just recently when the series was given a reboot, and the aptly-named Ssx landed on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. A departure from its predecessors, this entry takes the franchise in a whole new direction.

I had a chance to play Split Second, not in great length but enough to get a sense of its entry into the medium of driving games. Driving games can be simple enough fun to pick up and play, or complicated open world epics full of individual mini challenges. Having played Blur as a fun quick start, I would rank Split Second as a tad more involved, but maybe not as lengthy as the latest Burnouts.
Console Review: Split Second
I only drove one race in Split Second but it felt like there would be a lot of handling and maneuverability to be learned from getting good at it. The driving felt a little bit more precise, so as a novice I understood why I was drifting into a wall or losing speed. Definitely something intuitive that could be improved, but not a quick study for me. Although, I...

As video games go, driving games are fairly easy for me to keep up with at this stage in life. Even the ones with open maps and lots of objectives, I can still just pick up and play a little and put it down. Blur keeps it really simple, the basics of things I remember from the Nes days with a few next gen flashes.
Console Review: Blur PS3
The races are pretty basic. Accelerate, stay ahead and get some power ups to gain and keep your position. This really goes back to the Pole Position days. Every driving game has that thing where you always start out behind and have to overtake opponents one by one. Then no matter how safe you think you are, they come from behind. Blur does that like the best of them.

The point of all racing games is to be the first one to cross the finish line. That's it. It doesn't matter how you do it to get there, or whether you're tossing red shells or avoiding crashing planes, you need to beat your opponents to the end of the race to win. That basic concept may get lost in some of the glitz and glamor of today's high-end racing titles, but Nintendo's latest WiiWare release in the Art Style series, "Light Trax" proves that you don't need to go heavy on graphics to make a compelling racing title.

London, Apr 9 – After seven years of inaction, members of ‘Blur’ have finally reunited in the studio and are releasing a new track next week.
It is the first single from Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon, Alex James and Dave Rowntree since 2003’s ‘Good Song’.
Fans tempted them back into action with kind words after their recent warts-and-all documentary, ‘No Distance Left To Run’.
“Initially, Damon had no intention of going back into the studio with Blur. He’s been very busy with Gorillaz,” the Sun quoted.

Popstar To Operastar is back and we’re only one week off the semi final.
After all the usual filler clips and introductions Bernie Nolan took to the stage and we can see why she is already favourite to win with the bookies. Not only did she sing amazingly well, she did it while dancing, flirting and managed to hit a high c sharp at the end of her song. She blew us away and the judges agreed.
Rolando: Chaka chaka chaka ( don’t worry, we’ve no idea what that means either!)
Meat Loaf: You owned that lady!
Danny Jones
Danny was in the bottom two last week and we could see that he was worried about ending up there again tonight. He made McFly practice opera songs with him during the week and we think it paid off. Danny always has a great stage presence which helps get him through each song.

With all the Celebrity Big Brother final coverage, we managed to miss Popstar to Operastar last night, so we watched it today already knowing that Danny Jones ended up in the bottom two with Jimmy Osmond.
Listening to his performance, we’re not too surprised that the public didn’t rate him. much as we love Danny, he hasn’t got the chops for opera singing and his vocals are much weaker than some of his fellow contestants.

Arctic Monkeys are up for seven accolades at this year’s Shockwave NME Awards. The two bands are up against each other for Best British Band, Best Live Band, Best Track, Best Video, Giving It Back Award and Best Album. While Kasabian receive their sixth nods in Best Album Artwork, Arctic Monkeys get their last gongs in Worst Album for their latest studio album "Humbug".
In the Worst Album, this band face off last year's "champ" Jonas Brothers as well as U2, Lady GaGa and Green Day. Despite having the chance to walk home with the Worst Album, they are still grateful for the nominations.
"It's a good thing knowing we're still up for these awards," member Alex Turner told The Daily Star.

(S09E08) Wonder Twin Powers, Activate! Okay, so it wasn't so much the Wonder Twins as an homage to the Wonder Twins. Or Wonder Twins: The Next Generation. You get the idea. The blingy Gleek cell phone was a nice touch. Hell, the ringtone even sounded like an alien monkey.
Of course, the Wonder Twins were just gravy for the actual purpose of the episode: to further the legend of the Blur and heighten the Lois/Clark relationship. Like her predecessor in the 1990's Lois & Clark series, Lois is a smart cookie but really blind when it comes to secret identities. Speaking of cell phones, her ringtone for the Blur was very cute indeed.

(S09E04) It's when the writers give Clark abilities he's not supposed to have that I begin to worry, like his "reconstruct the Great Wall of China" vision from Superman IV. Thankfully, in this instance it was yet another of Jor-El's senseless tests and only temporary.
Admittedly, I don't get the title "Echo" for this episode. Is it that Oliver is an echo of his former self? Is it that he's turning the path back to heroism? It certainly seems that way.
Since Clark has switched to the black outfit, I hope people (including Lois) stop calling him the "red-blue blur". Now he's just the Blur. Or maybe the Black Blur, but that could be construed as slightly racist.

As Season Eight opens Clark Kent has finally become a reporter at the Daily Planet and is working closely with Lois Lane, who thinks he is in way over his depth. Coincidently there is a new hero in town, known as the Red-Blue Blur. It is a time of changes and new faces, so fans of the series won.t want to miss a second of this DVD set. The Fortress of Solitude has been destroyed by Lex Luthor, who is now missing, and Clark apparently has lost his powers courtesy of his Kryptonian father. Green Arrow, Black Canary and AquaMan are searching for their friend. Chloe.s power of intelligence has been ramped up and thinking that she is imprisoned by...
