Francis Lawrence is giving an update on the development of Constantine 2 with Keanu Reeves and things are seemingly moving along.
The sequel to the 2005 superhero horror film was stalled due to the writers strike but with writers back at work, Lawrence has been in meetings with Reeves to continue the saga.
“So Constantine 2 got obviously held up by the writers strike,” Lawrence told Gamespot. “And we had to jump through a bunch of hurdles to get control of the character again, because other people had control of the Vertigo stuff. We have control.”
Lawrence continued, “Keanu and Akiva Goldsman and I have been in meetings and have been hashing out what we think the story is going to be, and there’s more meetings of those that have to happen–the script has to be written–but really hoping that we get to do Constantine 2, and make...

Depression can be a dark place, especially for teenagers.
Instead of focusing on Ginny's mental health, Ginny & Georgia Season 2 Episode 8 focused on Marcus's worsening depression and drinking.
Felix Mallard shined as he narrated this installment and portrayed the darkness surrounding him.
Depression is one of those taboo topics. We don't discuss it much because no one wants to admit they have a problem.
It felt like Marcus spoke directly to us from his darkness, helping us to understand how depression can crush you.
Marcus was afraid of his inner demons, so he stayed in bed all day. He hated interacting with people, even those he loved.
For depression sufferers, it gets exhausting smiling and pretending to be happy when you're dying inside. They often feel alone, whether with their partner or at a party.
Sometimes, it's easier to hide in bed and pretend the world doesn't exist or drink yourself unconscious.

The Conspiracists Written and directed by Max Baker Presented by Stable Cable Lab Co. at Irt Theater, NYC April 22-May 7, 2017
Max Baker's new play, The Conspiracists, happens to be making its debut alongside widespread media coverage of the custody trial of toxic conspiracy monger Alex Jones, during which a lawyer for Jones argued that his on-air persona is merely performance art (a claim later disputed by his on-air persona). Many took this defense as a clear admission that he knowingly spreads lies for profit, but at least one writer has claimed that performing a character does not necessarily mean that the performer does not believe what the character delivers. That observation could apply equally well to the array of avowed believers who assemble as a support group in Baker's latest effort. In fact, one character, Hilda (Lisa Jill Anderson), posits, to the displeasure of the others, that belief in...

Casting directors have a strange distinction in the awards world: Their guild has an Academy branch, but it’s the only one without its own Oscar category. Imagine for a moment that they did. What are the best-cast films of 2016?
IndieWire asked 13 of the top casting directors to nominate films worthy of casting recognition this year. There were a few restrictions worth noting. Although casting directors often get early sneak peeks at films, many noted there are some films they still hadn’t seen. In particular, many are anxious to find out what legendary casting director Ellen Lewis has cooked up for Martin Scorsese’s “Silence.” The other restriction, which was imposed as responses came in: They couldn’t all write about “Moonlight.” (We’ll dig further into the casting of that film in another article.)

Live from the Surface of the Moon Written and directed by Max Baker Stable Cable Lab Co. at The Wild Project 195 E 3rd St., New York, NY 10009 April 2-11, 2015
Coinciding with the return of AMC’s Mad Men is the current run of actor, director, and playwright Max Baker’s new play, Live from the Surface of the Moon, another look at American culture as it runs out the clock on the 1960s. Baker trains his gaze not on the halls of Madison Avenue but on one Cleveland family’s wood-paneled living room on the nights of the moon landing and New Year’s Eve, 1969. As the play begins, Don (Ian Patrick Poake) and his pregnant wife, Carol (Kate Garfield), have invited their married friends Wendell (Brian Edelman) and June (Breanna Foister) to watch the astronauts step onto the moon; also part of the viewing party are Carol’s father,...

Director: Edward Burns Writer: Edward Burns Starring: Edward Burns, Caitlin Fitzgerald, Kerry Bishé, Marsha Dietlein, Max Baker, Johnny Solo, Dara Coleman The film's titular newlyweds -- Buzzy (Edward Burns) and Katie (Caitlin Fitzgerald) -- still appear to be happily married. Their secret: maintain a healthy distance and spend as little time as possible around each other. The credo "absence makes the heart grow fonder" seems to work quite well for Buzzy and Katie. It is abundantly clear, however, that Buzzy and Katie each have their fair share of baggage, including ex-lovers and needy family members. That said -- it is not long before external forces begin to interfere with the blissful buzz of Buzzy and Katie's seemingly idyllic life. For one, Katie's alcoholic ex-husband -- Dara (Dara Coleman) -- habitually stops by Buzzy and Katie's home unexpectedly, looking for handouts. But, then, Dara is the least of their concerns...

The latest film from Edward Burns focuses on a couple, Buzzy and Katie (Burns and Caitlin Fitzgerald), who receive an unexpected visit from Buzzy’s sister Linda (Kerry Bishe). The fight-less chemistry of the two newlyweds is tested by Linda’s reckless behavior. At the same time, Buzzy and Katie witness the crumbling marriage of their two friends, played by Marsha Dietlein and Max Baker.
Shot for $9,000 and with a small group of filmmakers Burns defines as a “rock band,” Newlyweds is the tenth movie he has directed.
I sat down with Edward Burns for an exclusive interview in which we discussed my favorite David Lynch quote, his best cinematic experience, and the wise words about niche marketing that he received from none other than Tyler Perry.
Newlyweds is now available on video on demand (VOD), and also with Amazon and iTunes.

Chicago – Edward Burns is a recognizable character actor, having introduced himself to audiences in the mid-1990s with “The Brothers McMullen.” He also is a veteran filmmaker, having written and directed that film, “She’s The One,” “Sidewalks of New York” and the recent “Newlyweds.”
Burns has taken a more guerilla approach to filmmaking in the last ten years, preferring micro-budget productions with a consistent crew. Since 2002, he has made six feature films, all outside the boundaries of Hollywood. He has partnered with Tribeca Films for his latest outing, “Newlyweds,” a sharp adult comedy about various stages of relationships and marriage in New York City.
Burns also has had a pretty visible career as a film actor in other productions, more notable as Pvt. Reiben in Steven Spielberg’s “Saving Private Ryan.” Recently, he played opposite Katherine Heigl in “27 Dresses” and will be in the upcoming “Man on a Ledge” opposite Elizabeth Banks.

Directed by: Edward Burns
Cast: Edward Burns, Kerry Bishe, Caitlin Fitzgerald, Dara Coleman, Marsha Dietlein, Max Baker
Running Time: 1 hr 35 mins
Rating: R
Release Date: January 13, 2012 (Chicago)
Plot: Buzzy (Burns) begins to have marital issues with his wife (Katie Fitzgerald) when his step-sister Linda (Bishe) makes an unexpected visit.
Who’S It For? If you’re interested in seeing a movie like Woody Allen’s Husbands and Wives without the neuroses, consider making a date with Newlyweds. Expect to feel honesty more than laughter, and you’ll enjoy this intimate tale of New Yorkers just fine.
Overall
As I imagine what being married must be like, Newlyweds is all about honesty. The characters struggle with this concept amongst each other, constantly looking for the right amount of difficult details that can be shared without pushing someone over the edge. Or in other cases, as in with the collapsing 18-year...

Once again utilizing his low budget sensibilities and a few friendly faces, writer/director/producer/actor Ed Burns has crafted an impressive adult dramedy that feels blissfully familiar (and awkwardly familial). Newlyweds is a semi-documentary style film that relies almost solely on the talents of its cast – a true ensemble made up of Burns as Buzzy, the cocksure fitness instructor on his second marriage; Caitlin Fitzgerald as his sweetly sarcastic wife Katie; Kerry Bishé (seen above) as his self-destructive sister Linda; Marsha Dietlein as his opinionated sister-in-law Marsha; and Max Baker as Marsha’s perverted old husband (in his second outing as a character named Max for an Ed Burns film). Buzzy and Katie are the kind of couple you want to be best friends with. They’re pragmatic and funny, obviously looking at life through the sober and absurd lens that their first marriages afforded them. They are tonal opposites of Marsha and Max whose 18 years...

Filmed on a budget of $9,000 dollars, Newlyweds is the latest film by New York writer/director Edward Burns. This relationship comedy focuses on Buzzy (Burns) and Katie (Caitlin Fitzgerald), who believe that their new marriage works because of their conflicting work schedules - their happiness will not be destroyed by overexposure. Katie's sister Marsha (Marsha Dietlein Bennett) and her husband (Max Baker) are skeptical, though their own marriage is going down the tubes. The arrival of Buzzy's unstable sister Linda (Kerry Bishe) and Marsha and Max's impending, ugly divorce challenge Katie and Buzzy to find a way to stay together despite the outside forces that begin to weaken their relationship. Caitlin Fitzgerald (It's Complicated, Taking Woodstock) recently sat down with us to discuss her career, her love of New York and all things Newlyweds: from the audition process to on location shooting to the closing night gala at Tff...

After having to watch Edward Burns‘ Newlyweds on my 14-inch MacBook, I immediately added all of the actor/writer/director’s previous films to the very top of my rental queue. Burns is a well-known actor, but, as a director, his films have small, niche audience; he’s a filmmaker not quite on my radar. Until now, thanks to his thoroughly enjoyable, smart and fun $9,000 indie dramedy.
This is about as small a film can get, and I don’t mean that in a condescending or dismissive way. Burns’ story is both well-contained and intimate. That’s not much of a surprise, since the character-driven film features only six main characters, with only two other side character to think of.

[1] Edward Burns may be best known for his work in front of the camera, but over the past decade and half he's made a dozen or so attempts at writing and directing as well. His latest project, the indie drama Newlyweds, stars Burns as a New Yorker quietly going about his life when he finds his life disrupted by the sudden arrival of his troubled little sister (Kerry Bishé). Sort of like Steve McQueen's Shame or Sean Durkin's Martha Marcy May Marlene, I guess, except not really at all. Rounding out the cast are Caitlin Fitzgerald as Burns' wife Katie, Marsha Dietlein as Katie's sister Marsha, and Max Baker as Marsha's husband. Watch the trailer after the jump. "We need to get as far away from any of our relatives as possible." Perfect for Thanksgiving week, right? An official trailer has debuted on Apple for the film Newlyweds, a new indie romantic drama starring and directed by Edward Burns, who you may recognize as an actor, but has been a director for a while as well. It's a drama about newlyweds, obviously, who get disrupted by Burns' half-sister, learning what it means to be married in the process. The cast includes Caitlin FitzGerald as his other half, Linda, Kerry Bishe as the sister, plus Max Baker. This looks rather quirky and entertaining for an indie, so give it a shot. Enjoy! Watch the official trailer for Edward Burns' Newlyweds, originally in high def via Apple: Buzzy (Burns) and Katie (FitzGerald) are a newly married couple living a seemingly conflict-free life. But when Buzzy's damaged and impulsive half-sister...

Whether you’re his biggest fan or largest detractor, it’s hard to argue that Edward Burns‘ acting career lived up to the promise exhibited in early, stronger work like Saving Private Ryan. To go from Spielberg‘s war epic to One Missed Call and 27 Dresses… that’s a rough move. But he’s found a niche for himself by crafting features in the world of writing and directing, all of which have been smaller affairs.
Next in this line is Newlyweds, a film that stars himself, Caitlin Fitzgerald, Kerry Bishé, Max Baker, Marsha Dietlein Bennett, and Dara Coleman. Do almost none of those names ring a bell? Come on, it’s an independent feature! In all seriousness, however, this looks very much like a personal effort, and I can’t fault him for taking the time and resources to get it out there. But the actual film looks resoundingly...

With Allen having (largely) decamped for Europe in recent years, fans of a particular kind of closely examined, urban adult comedy have been left starving. So Burns deserves a certain amount of credit for creating “Newlyweds,” an amusing if slight film focusing on a newlywed couple whose relationship is sorely tested thanks to the eccentricities of exes, sisters, half-sisters and other strangers. With “Newlyweds,” director-writer-star Edward Burns is doing what some may consider the impossible: trying on Woody Allen’s considerably sized shoes. Yet despite more than 15 years of experience, Burns just isn’t surefooted enough yet to claim the crown.
“Newlyweds,” whose world premiere closed out the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival, focuses on a freshly minted duo: Katie (Caitlin Fitzgerald) and Buzzy (Burns). He’s a personal trainer,...

I’ve been a fan of Ed Burns for a long time, and I’ve got a special giveaway for you to help celebrate the October 26th release of his latest, Nice Guy Johnny. It’s an interesting spin, and the sort of story that feels like Burns going back toward things that worked a while ago. There seems to be a lot of focus on the conversations that delivered so well for Burns with some of his earliest efforts, and as strange as it may seem, the film’s opening gambit feels like just the sort of thing he can turn into something.

Actor/director/writer/producer Edward Burns‘ next film Nice Guy Johnny has its first trailer. The drama stars Matt Bush, who I loved in Adventureland, alongside Kerry Bishe, Anne Wood, Max Baker and Edward Burns himself. It looks beautifully shot, but wish the trailer had a touch more of the story. Check out for yourself below via Apple and let me know what you think.
Plot: Sure, she can be a little overbearing sometimes, but baby-faced Johnny Rizzo loves his fiancee Claire, and he made her a promise: by the time he’s 25-years-old, he’ll trade his current dream job as a local sports talk radio host (even if it is the 2 a.m. slot) for something that’ll pay bigger bucks. And Johnny’s nothing, if not a man of his word. Now he’s flying to New York to interview for some snoozeville job that Claire’s well-to-do father set up.

THQ to release 'Constantine' game with WB pic
Video game publisher THQ has added another comic book property to its upcoming lineup. It will distribute Constantine in February in conjunction with the Warner Bros. Pictures film, shortly after it ships Marvel Comics' The Punisher on Jan. 17. The third-person-perspective game will follow the movie script, which is based on DC Comics/Vertigo's Hellblazer graphic novels, but will add new enemies and challenges exclusive to the game. Players will step into the shoes of a virtual Keanu Reeves, who along with cast members Tilda Swinton, Gavin Rossdale and Max Baker provided their likenesses, but not voices, for the game. The Calabasas Hills, Calif.-based company will release the title in North America on the PS2 and Xbox platforms.
