Peter Dinklage opened up about his close relationship with “Game of Thrones” co-star Charles Dance, despite their characters’ antagonistic roles on the hit HBO series. In a recent appearance on the YouTube interview show “Hot Ones,” Dinklage reflected on playing Tyrion Lannister opposite Dance’s Tywin Lannister. Their characters had one of the most compelling dramatic relationships on the show as the scornful father and dwarf son who despised each other.
However, Dinklage revealed that he and Dance shared a warm bond behind the scenes. Between filming their intense scenes, Dance would often place his hand gently on Dinklage’s shoulder in a fatherly gesture of reassurance. “We didn’t have time for hugs between takes, but Charles always made sure to give me a little touch on the shoulder,” recalled Dinklage. This small act from Dance helped Dinklage get into character as the son seeking approval from his cruel father.

In Rumours, a genre-defying work set at an imagined G7 summit, the United States president might seem as sleepy as the media caricature of Joe Biden. Yet Charles Dance’s incarnation of a figure embodying such stately authority also inexplicably speaks with a British accent. This slippery distinction between reality and surrealism provides a sure sign that the film came from the mind of iconoclastic director Guy Maddin, who co-directed and wrote the project with his former students, Evan and Galen Johnson.
At every step of the way, Rumours thwarts and confounds expectations that this convening of fictional world leaders at a gazebo in the German forest will ever shift into standard political satire. Diplomacy quickly fades from being subject to serving as a mere backdrop to absurdist horror-comedy. As the seven leaders retreat into the forest under the guidance of their host, German Chancellor Hilda Orlmann (Cate Blanchett), their...

Westeros is filled with lousy fathers: Robert Baratheon, Balon Greyjoy, and the Wilding Craster who sells his sons (born from daughters he rapes) to the White Walkers. Worst of all, though, is Tywin Lannister (played by Charles Dance in the "Game of Thrones" TV adaptation). He treats none of his three children well; Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and Cersei (Lena Headey), the visage of a perfect knight and queen but without the hearts of them, are vessels for the glory of House Lannister, no more. Tywin is so incapable of understanding the twins have wills of their own that he would not believe their terrible, incestuous secret when he heard it from Cersei's own mouth.
If Tywin at least prizes his two eldest children, he has only scorn for his youngest, Tyrion (Peter Dinklage). Tyrion had the misfortune of being born a dwarf while his mother Joanna passed in childbirth. His...

It may be many years since Peter Dinklage performed opposite Charles Dance on “Games of Thrones,” but the actor still holds a special place in his heart for his cruel on-screen father. While speaking with Sean Evan during an interview on “Hot Ones,” Dinklage reflected on his relationship with the esteemed British actor and their fondness for one another despite the animosity they shared as Tyrion and Tywin Lannister.
“I love Charlie Dance,” Dinklage said in between munching on hot wings. “He’s one of my favorite human beings and he played my father on the show and all my father did on the show was humiliate me and sent me sentence me to death — spoiler alert for those three people who haven’t seen the show — so he made a habit of — cause we would get really invested in those things cause talk about great dialogue, Dan Weiss and David Benioff wrote,...

Peter Dinklage is a veteran actor who's appeared in numerous television shows and movies, but around these parts we'll always know him best as Tyrion Lannister, the sarcastic youngest son of Tywin Lannister on Game of Thrones. Dinklage's career has remained in a constant boom since Thrones; the guy's always got something new coming out, which is great for fans who loved him as Tyrion and want to see him in more projects.
For example, just this week the YouTube interview channel First We Feast released an interview with Dinklage on their show Hot Ones, where celebrities eat very spicy wings and try not to have meltdowns as they answer questions. When I saw Dinklage was on Hot Ones, I assumed he was out promoting his Western movie The Thicket, which came out in early September. But no! Peter Dinklage ain’t just shaking things up; he’s flipping Hollywood’s script on what makes a leading actor. For years, Tinseltown stuck to its formula: tall, dashing, larger-than-life heroes. But times are changing, and Dinklage is not afraid to call out the outdated mold. The Game of Thrones star’s made it clear—being the lead isn’t about fitting some cookie-cutter look. It’s about depth, range, and something more than just a chiseled jawline.

Rumours checks a lot of boxes for me. It’s a weird, irreverent satire featuring the undead and a giant, unexplained brain in the middle of the forest. Add in Cate Blanchett and Charles Dance (Game of Thrones) playing dimwitted politicians and the case for it gets even stronger. Despite all of this, the movie, directed by the trio of Guy Maddin, Evan Johnson and Galen Johnson, felt flat. The sluggish pace and extremely dry sense of humor and delivery will likely make this a challenging watch for most casual viewers.

Rumours.Rumours (2024), codirected by Guy Maddin and brothers Evan and Galen Johnson, follows the world leaders at a G7 summit as they draft a provisional statement concerning an unspecified global crisis. The film finds Maddin operating in a different vein of artifice than the chaotic pastiches of early filmic techniques that characterize much of his previous work. In Rumours, high-key lighting blasts an antiseptic aura, and the babbly performances are urbane to the point of uncanniness (Charles Dance plays the US president with an unexplained British accent). However, the heads of state soon wander into more familiar Maddin territory. Stumbling through the woods, they encounter surreal and fleshy aberrations: self-pleasuring bog mummies, a gargantuan brain, et cetera. In a classic The Exterminating Angel (1962) conundrum, the figureheads drift through an inescapable liminal space, forced to abandon their mannered etiquettes and self-interrogate. Picture Raúl Ruiz’s The Territory (1981), if transposed into the sphere of international politics.

Guy Maddin didn’t know he was even on Cate Blanchett‘s radar until he saw her pick his film “My Winnipeg” out of the Criterion Closet back in 2022.
“It was a manipulative move. It was a cry for help!” Blanchett joked to IndieWire (and her peers) on the rooftop of the Jw Marriott on the Cannes Croisette back in May when their debut collaboration, “Rumours,” first premiered. She was joined on that day by Maddin and his co-directors, Evan and Galen Johnson, who’ve been chugging away with the singularly absurdist Canadian auteur on short films since 2015 and the feature “The Forbidden Room” in 2016. Their latest, “Rumours,” is a satirical slice of weirdness about seven nimwit world leaders who gather at a fictional G7 conference to draft a vaguely reassuring statement about an unnamed international crisis. Blanchett plays Hilda Orlmann, the Chancellor of Germany, channeling Angela Merkel in a blond bob and European faux-steeliness.

The first big laugh in Rumours hits before the opening credits have even finished rolling: “The producers would like to thank the G7 leaders for their support and consultation during the making of this movie.” As political bloggers, chronic doomscrollers and any conspiracy theorist with access to the internet will tell you, the “Group of Seven” is an annual summit in which selected world-power presidents and prime ministers discuss global issues and cross-governmental solutions. The national leaders of the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Japan and Italy have...

Charles Dance is to star as Michelangelo in a BBC-PBS docu-drama about the renaissance.
Dance is leading Renaissance: The Blood and the Beauty, examining how some of the greatest works of art in the Western world were born out of an era of violence, power politics and rivalry.
The BBC said the show will “reveal an unfamiliar side to the Renaissance,” with Leonardo da Vinci and Raphael also represented along with their patrons in 16th-century Italy.
Dance is well known for playing villains and authoritative characters on screen. The Emmy-nominee’s past credits include The Crown, in which he played Lord Mountbatten, Game of Thrones and The Imitation Game.
With Renaissance, the BBC is embracing the current penchant for historical docu-drama, which has seen Netflix make similar shows on the likes of Cleopatra, Alexander the Great and the Russian Tsars.

Rumours Trailer: Cate Blanchett Faces Bog Corpses, Giant Brains And The Apocalypse In Wild G7 Satire
Given the current political state of the world, a movie about the G7 probably doesn't sound like your next must-see addition to the ever-growing watchlist. But how about a G7 movie that sees the likes of Cate Blanchett, Charles Dance, Alicia Vikander, and Roy Dupuis — all adopting bizarre accents — playing inept world leaders whose cosy little Summit gets upended by the discovery of a mummified corpse, some funny business with a giant brain, and more ill-advised, high-powered rumpy-pumpy than you can shake an episode of early season Game Of Thrones at? Because that's exactly what it looks like we're in for with Rumours, a genre-hopping new satire from The Green Fog filmmakers Guy Maddin, Evan Johnson, and Galen Johnson, and producer Ari Aster. Check out the bonkers new trailer below:
Where do you even begin to break down that trailer? It looks like a Wes Anderson joint, has the tone...

In the opening scene of the Rumours red band trailer, an archeologist unearths an Iron Age corpse, mummified with its severed penis hanging from its neck. As the summit host and German representative Hilda Orlmann, played by Cate Blanchett, describes the bog body, the G7 leaders in attendance can’t help but wince and give distasteful stares, with one global leader calling it “gruesome.” Following the ceremony, representatives of the world’s wealthiest democracies are stranded in the woods and chased by ancient bodies in a conference gone horribly wrong.

"A black storm comes." Bleecker Street has revealed the full trailer for Rumours, an extra weird & wacky dark comedy about politics from the filmmakers Guy Maddin, Evan Johnson and Galen Johnson. This first premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival earlier this year to mostly mixed reviews from critics, it burns out pretty quickly after a hilarious start. In times of global crisis, the brightest and biggest brains of the free world gather to provide leadership. The "wildly entertaining" Rumours film is an apocalyptic horror-comedy about how dumb politicians really are. The leaders of seven wealthy democracies come together during a G7 summit in Germany. But they end up getting lost in the woods when everyone else suddenly disappears and they can't where to go, facing danger as they attempt to find their way out. With a presidential election fast approaching in the U.S. and tensions at an all-time high, now feels like the perfect time to release a political satire with humor, drama, and the undead. Today, Bleecker Street unveiled the studio’s Rumours trailer, depicting a meeting of the minds that turns into a fight for survival in the face of genuinely bizarre circumstances.
Here’s the official synopsis for Rumours courtesy of Bleecker Street:
Richochetting between comedy, apocalyptic horror, and swooning soap opera, Rumours follows the seven leaders of the world’s wealthiest democracies at the annual G7 summit, where they attempt to draft a provisional statement regarding a global crisis. With unexpected, uproarious performances from a brilliant ensemble cast that includes Cate Blanchett, Alicia Vikander, and Charles Dance, these so-called leaders become spectacles of incompetence, contending with increasingly surreal obstacles in the misty woods as night falls and they realize they are suddenly alone.
