Mercury will be at 'superior conjunction' with the sun at 3pm Doha time on Saturday, Qatar Calendar House (QCH) has said.

Mercury is at superior conjunction with the Sun on the night of June 5-6 but emerges into visibility low in the dusk by mid-month.

Venus will be at 'superior conjunction' with the sun at 9am Doha time tomorrow, Qatar Calendar House (QCH) has said.

On 2013 Mar 28 Venus reached superior conjunction. The evening elongation of 2013 is of course closely similar in terms of presentation to those of 2005, 1997, etc.

Mercury will slowly disappear into the sunrise glow over the coming days as it heads for superior conjunction at the end of the month.

Innermost planet Mercury is at superior conjunction on the third (opposite side of the sun from the Earth) and so will start to become visible in the evening sky after sunset from the middle of the month.

The nearest planet to Sun in the solar system, Mercury, will be at 'Superior Conjunction' with Sun on January 30, Wednesday, at 5.36am Doha time, Qatar Calendar House (QCH) has said.

On this basis, when a radar pulse is sent past the sun to Mercury or Venus at superior conjunction, the round-trip delay should be increased by about 0.0002 second.

An inferior conjunction only happens for Mercury and Venus because their orbits are inside Earth's orbit, while superior conjunction happens for all the planets in the solar system.

A superior conjunction follows on May 11 after which the planet moves to the east of the Sun and may be glimpsed at the very end of May when it sets nearly two hours after the Sun.

The Evening Star is slowly emerging from superior conjunction with the Sun, which occurred last October.

Venus is at superior conjunction on 31st (opposite side of the sun from the Earth) and Mars is still very low in the morning sky.

"'The superior conjunction of Saturn' is a very important astronomical phenomenon, as it is an indicator of Saturn's transition to disappear from an evening sky over western horizon after sunset to appear in the morning sky over eastern horizon before sunrise," said Dr Beshir Marzouk, Astronomer at QCH.
