In the halls on Saturday, February 2 there will be a Quiet Day for
Candlemas, a time for quiet personal meditation with reflections led by Rev Nerys Brown.
This season of the year is rich in cultural traditions such as Y Fari Lwyd, Chinese New Year,
Candlemas, Mid Winter and Hen Galan, which have originated from many places and peoples and are still celebrated in Wales.
Until the 19th century though, people would keep their decorations up until
Candlemas Day on February 2.
The Christmas festivities officially draw to a close at
Candlemas on the 2nd February which commemorates the arrival of Mary Magdalene over 2,000 years ago in Provence at Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer on this date.

Candlemas, Christingle means 'Christ-light' and each child carries an orange representing the world, decorated with a candle representing Jesus as the light of the world and four cocktail sticks representing the seasons decorated with sweets which represent the fruits of the spirit.
