Eastern Washington University
The Eastern Washington University athletic program is designed to be an intergral component of the university community. The university sponsors 15 intercollegiate sports, seven for men and eight for women, both as learning opportunities for its most athletically talented students and an enhancement to student and community life. EWU offers more than 100 fields of study, 10 master's degrees, seven graduate certificates, 55 graduate programs of study an and applied doctoral program of physical therapy. Eastern Washington joined the Big Sky Conference in 1987.

Idaho State University
The Athletics Department at Idaho State University conducts a diverse athletics program consistent with the mission of the University. The athletics program contributes significantly to the outreach mission of the University, both in fostering institutional spirit and generating spectator appeal. Education and athletic excellence are the cornerstones of the athletics program.
Idaho State is a charter member of the Big Sky Conference.

The University of Montana
The University of Montana not only has an outstanding athletic program, but it is also one of the best in the country in academics. UM student athletes excel in the classroom with the help of an academic coordinator, who works directly with approximately 250 student athletes in all 14 sports.
Montana is a charter member of the Big Sky. It has an enrollment of more than 14,000 students.

University of Northern Colorado
UNC is home to the nationally recognized Monfort College of Business, which became the first business college in the country to earn the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, the nation's highest honor for quality and performance excellence. Portland State University
The University offers 62 bachelor's and 56 master's degrees, plus eight doctoral degrees encompassing 23 fields of study. PSU serves more students and confers more graduate degrees annually than any other institution in the Oregon University System. Through its seven men's and eight women's varsity teams, the PSU Vikings compete in the Big Sky Conference at the NCAA Division I level.

Weber State University
Weber State University is a four-year institution of higher education located in Ogden, Utah. Its focus is upon providing undergraduate programs of the highest quality. WSU offers over 200 separate degrees/programs -- the largest and most comprehensive undergraduate program in the State of Utah.

University of North Dakota
Established in 1883, The University of North Dakota, located in Grand Forks, is the oldest university in the state with more than 14,000 students. UND offers a wide variety of professional and specialized programs, including a law and medical school. It is also known for its school of aerospace science, and is classified by the Carnegie Foundation as a doctoral/research-intensive institution. UND is the alma mater of 11-time NBA champion coach Phil Jackson.

Southern Utah University
Southern Utah University was established in 1897 as an extension of the Agricultural College of Utah. SUU gained University status in 1991, and currently enrolls more than 7,500 students. The University consists of five colleges (Computing, Integrated Engineering & Technology, Education and Human Development, Humanities & Social Sciences, Performing & Visual Arts, Science) and two schools (Business, Continuing & Professional Studies).

UC Davis
UC Davis is a public teaching and research institution established in 1905 and located in Davis. With an enrollment of more than 32,000 students it is the third largest within the University of California system. In 2011, U.S. News and World Report ranked UC Davis as the 9th best public university in the U.S., and 39th overall. The publication also ranked UC Davis first nationally in ecology and evolution, second in veterinary medicine and 23rd in law in terms of graduate studies.

Cal Poly
Located in San Luis Obispo and established in 1901, Cal Poly is comprised of six distinct colleges. It offers 70 undergraduate, 26 graduate programs to its more than 19,000 students. The universities engineering, architecture and agriculture colleges consistently place at the top of the United States national academic ratings. In U.S. News and World Report’s 2011 American’s Best Colleges report, Cal Poly was ranked as the top Public Master’s University in the Western United States for the 18th consecutive year.

Future Members

University of Idaho

(Will Join Conference on July 1, 2014)


The University of Idaho, a charter member of the Big Sky Conference, will return for all sports but football on July 1, 2014. Located in Moscow, Idaho, is the flagship univeristy of the state of Idaho. Founded in 1889, UI is the state's primary research university, and enrolls more national merit scholars than all other institutions in the state combined. UI offers 130 Bachelor's degrees, 88 Master's degrees, and 32 Doctorial degrees. Idaho was a member of the Big Sky from 1963-1996.
