This series featuring Derek Nimmo is so typical of a bye-gone era. The sets are obviously done on a low budget but the same can not be said for the acting, which is wonderful. Derek Nimmo's performance verges at times on the slapstick but provides clean-cut fun with ne'er a bad word said (of course not - in a monastery!) and which is entertaining for the whole family. Just relax and let yourself travel back in time. For under 50's maybe a new experience, but for 50+ a re-awaking of memories!
There is only one detraction - there just aren't enough surviving episodes. What we do have however is thoroughly enjoyable, but this is another sad example of lack of attention in the past to protecting the British heritage of film.

It's interesting to note the popularity of Derek Nimmo in the late '60s and early '70s - this series (as well as "All Gas and Gaiters") goes a long way towards explaining it. Of course a lot of the programmes from this series have vanished into the aether and from the archive, but the shows on this DVD are entertaining in a gentle way.
Brother Dominic is a well meaning innocent novice monk. Also accident prone. HORRIBLY accident prone.

It was one of the shows that I recall my family gathering together to watch in the days when it went out. It's worth gathering together to watch now.

Very funny comedy with the style of "Bless Me Father" and "Sister Act". I didn't know Derek Nimmo as actor and I have found him very energetic and effective, on the leading role of this serial. But if I have to mention the best featuring in "Oh Brother", this is -without any kind of dude- the one played by Felix Aylmer. It was one of his latest performances, but he is so perfect as his legendary collaborations in films like Quo Vadis? or "Hamlet". So, "Oh Brother!" is very interesting TV product if you want to laugh with this old production made by BBC at early seventies.

Very much in the vein of All Gas And Gaiters but the scripts are pretty indifferent and well matched by the acting. Nimmos accent swings within one sentence from bizarre to peculiar. It is a period piece which has not aged as well as other sitcoms. It does at least have the virtue that you can watch it with your grandmother or your children without the risk of any embarrassing "jokes".
I don't regret buying it but I don't expect to be watching it again in the near future.

The late Derek Nimmo in typical accident-prone clerical fashion in a sixties-seventies sitcom not
unlike "All Gas And Gaiters" and "Oh Father!" Amusing throughout with many well-known faces
    along the way.

A peep into long ago with its innocent charm. Wouldn't appeal to young-uns, I don't think.

This collection of programs is very entertaining and is a wonderful way to escape the everyday world of problems and politics that drives most of us to the edge of unhappiness. I only wish that the "lost" segements of this series could be miraculously discovered and made available to the public.
