Zou het waar zijn? Dat er een deel van de bevolking gelooft dat WALT DISNEY de tekenfilm heeft uitgevonden? DENNIS NYBACK's Fuck Mickey Mouse onderzoekt hoe de andere Hollywood animatiestudio’s reageerden op het megafenomeen Disney in jaren 1930 en 1940. Hij bekijkt drie tactieken die de belangrijkste concurrenten van dhr. W. Disney gebruikten: van hem jatten, beter of sneller zijn dan hem, hem genadeloos bespotten. Snow White (1933)
Max Fleischer’s version done several years before Disney’s. This featured Betty Boop and the voice of Cab Calloway.
One More Time (1931)
This Warner Brothers cartoon is a much greater ripoff of Mickey Mouse, but Disney did not sue WB. It was easier to pick on little Amadee Van Beuren.
A Toyland Tale (aka Toyland Adventure (1931)
The Disney company sued and won a copyright infringement case against this Amadee Van Bueren cartoon.
Dennis Nyback
Born in a town lacking either a cinema or good TV reception, Mr. Nyback worked for an art house movie chain before buying The Rosebud Movie Palace his very own 88 seat movie theatre in 1978, the programming exlusively from "Hollywood's golden age." In the late 1980’s he was the director of the Belltown Film Festival opened the Pike Street Cinema in 1992, and began touring with film programs in 1991, taking them to U. S. cities, as well as to Europe and Asia. He moved to New York in 1995 and opened the Lighthouse Cinema. In 1999 he relocated to Portland, Oregon, to take over operation of the historic Clinton Street Theater.
