They Wear It Well

Fashion meets charity -- Jean-Paul Gaultier dresses Billy Idol, Raquel Welch, and others for the American Foundation for AIDS Research benefit

Bad-boy Parisian designer Jean-Paul Gaultier is known for his outspoken fashion statements — so at a recent gala benefit for the American Foundation for AIDS Research, staged in L.A.'s Shrine Auditorium, the maestro naturally outdid himself for the cause. As part of the evening's proceedings — dinner for 850 guests, disco dancing, and a slick runway show — Gaultier dressed Billy Idol, Raquel Welch, and Lady Kier Kirby in his fantastic undies and fixture fashions. Of course Madonna stole the show. Total shock value for AmFAR: $750,000.
