Through the fusion of an artistic vision and a distinctively sharp interest in reality, good directors bring their stories to life in front of the camera.

With this aim in sight, students specializing in Film Directing learn to realize and coordinate all aspects of the directing process: from the screenplay to the various crew roles to the music. Picture and sound design, working with actors, and knowledge in film editing make up the foundation for this training.

At the ifs, documentary film directing and fiction film directing are given equal significance. This provides the future filmmakers with a wide spectrum of aesthetic forms of expression within the dynamic contrast that exists between fiction and reality.

An intrinsic element of the education, alongside the transfer of organizational and technical skills, is to provide the students with insights into social contexts and relationships, thus supporting the up-and-coming directors to also become sharp observers and highly skilled creative artists.
