Andy and Lana Wachowski, along with Tom Tykwer, are teaming to write and co-direct "Cloud Atlas," with Tom Hanks attached to star.
Based on the novel by David Mitchell, "Atlas" is the fantastical story of humankind, told through the past, present and future as one soul is shaped from a murderer into a savior and a single act of kindness ripples out for centuries.
Warner Bros. will have domestic distribution rights, with Focus Features Intl. handling international sales. Stefan Arndt and Grant Hill will produce through their Five Drops shingle. Philip Lee is exec producing. Production is set to start this September.
Hanks, seen next in U's "Larry Crowne," is repped by CAA. The Wachowskis are repped by WME and Circle of Confusion.
