Aquaman's badassery can't be contained to just one book. On top of his solo series, Aquaman has now proven he's the biggest fish in the sea in Justice League as well. I mean, come on, the dude can control a legion of sharks. I don't care how many lasers you can shoot out of your eyes or if you own a private invisible jet, nothing tops complete control over the scariest creatures left on earth.

So as you can probably guess from that intro, Aquaman makes his full presence known in Justice League #4, an issue filled to the brim with big action moments and a lot of pretty Jim Lee splash pages. Justice League #4's heavy focus on action means this is a relatively quick read (not counting the now-standard prose supplemental material). But what Justice League #4 lacks in depth, it more than makes up for in epic action.

There's barely a page that goes by that doesn't have something on fire or blowing up altogether. Because of this, Jim Lee gets to really cut loose with a bevy of dynamic layouts, splashes and spreads to make the script's action as epic as a book focusing on the Justice League should be.

If you wanted grandiose action in your Justice League book, you're now getting it in spades. However, Geoff Johns is injecting enough personality and character-defining traits into all the members of the book's ensemble cast to make this series feel like something more substantial than a bunch of dudes (and ladies) wearing tights and punching monsters in the face. At it's core, it's very much that, but at least it's a fun ride for new and longtime DC readers.
