One of four ships of the same class the other being AETOS, IERAX and PANTHIR, offered as part of the American military assistance program and consisting the latest so called 'Wild Beasts' squadron. Launched in 25 July 1943 she was accepted by Lt Cdr D. Fifas HN on January 15th 1951. One of the most useful and active ships of the Hellenic Navy used extensively on patrols in the Eastern Aegean Sea and the Dodecanese as well as for the training of Naval Cadets.Fans of science fiction works believe LEON to have taken part in the 'Philadelphia experiment', an experiment which more than likely never took place having never been substantiated. Of course the ship itself having none of the attributed mysterious characteristics. She was decommissined on November 15th 1992, and later at 11 November 1999, was sold at company 'V&J SCRAPMETAL TRADING L.T.D', with headquarters at Peiraia, for SCARP (disassemblation and partition).
