As Egypt's president, Hosni Mubarak, led the cheerleaders welcoming back the heroes on Monday, some home truths became crystal clear. Egypt is in many ways separate to the structure of African soccer. Its national team coach, Hassan Shehata, has never left Cairo, and doesn't need to do so to see his players. Its club system, started a century ago by a Briton, is the bedrock of its domination, both of the Nations Cup and the African Champions Cup of clubs.
